Kevek79 Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 I am in the middle of upgrading my parity drive from 4 TB to 8 TB. Preclear of the new 8 TB drive is already done. But there Is one question left and I am pretty sure that it does not make any difference but I'll ask anyway. Better to be save than sorry . After stopping the array and unassigning the old parity drive, do I need to start the array once without any parity disk assigned? Then stop the array again, assign the new parity drive and start the array again? Or can unassigning the old drive and assign the new one be done at once ? Quote
civic95man Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 Yes. unassigning and starting then stopping the array causes unraid to "forget" the drive previously in slot. Otherwise it would think the "old" drive should be there and complain that the "new" drive is the wrong one Quote

Since it's an upgrade you can just select the new parity drive, no need to start without the old one. Quote

And that would also apply to replacing a data drive. Simply assigning the new disk to the slot is all that is required to get Unraid to rebuild to that disk, whether parity or data. Quote
Kevek79 Posted June 30, 2020 Author Posted June 30, 2020 Thanks for the clarification @johnnie.black & @trurl. I'll mark the thread as solved. Quote
