wgstarks
I’ve installed a new HDD and tried to run a smart test but the test never starts. I’ve attached the downloaded smart report containing the drive info and smart capabilities, also diagnostics. Does this drive just not support smartmontools or is there some defect and I should get an RMA? smart_report.txt brunnhilde-diagnostics-20201002-1017.zip Edited October 2, 2020 by wgstarks Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
SMART report is missing a lot of stuff, and there are some errors, possibly a device problem. BTW, what is a Mercury Elite Pro Elite Pro? Is it a white label drive? Quote Link to comment

JorgeB
That's not a normal SMART report, I would suggest getting a replacement. 1 Quote Link to comment
wgstarks
I went ahead and requested an RMA. Have to say I like that company’s support. They’re sending me a replacement prior to me returning the original. Quote Link to comment
wgstarks
Not sure what's going on. I got a replacement drive. Ran one preclear cycle just to test it. No problems shown with the smart report (attached). Mounted the drive via UD and I get the same screwy smart report (also attached). Preclear_ PASS! Preclearing Disk sdd Finished!!! JorgeB
Yes, something strange going on there, preclear seems to be getting the correct data, do you have a custom SMART controller set? Full diags might also help. Quote Link to comment
wgstarks
No custom controller. Diagnostics attached. brunnhilde-diagnostics-20201011-0643.zip Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Does a manual SMART report look correct? smartctl -x /dev/sde Quote Link to comment

wgstarks
Not sure if this is relevant but after the preclear was completed I was unable to mount the disk using UD. I had to re-format it first. Both the binhex preclear docker and UD should have been using XFS AFAIK. Not sure why I needed to format again? Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Try connecting that disk to the LSI instead to see if it makes any difference, swap with another if needed. Quote Link to comment
wgstarks
Good idea. It is in an external esata enclosure now (wasn't for the preclear). I have another disk that is at 50% on it's last preclear cycle. I'll swap them as soon as it's finished. Quote Link to comment
