tr0910
Disk shows up in unassigned devices but the mount button is greyed out. I am doing a rebuild on a spare drive which should bring everything back again. Likely this will only be an exercise in curiosity. Do you think this XFS disk is salvageable?? This disk was in an old 6.6.7 server and if installed, the server will completely lock up. Removing the disk and installing in a newer server with 6.9b25 gives us this data. Frank1940
I looked at the SMART report and it has had lot of very recent reports of problems 'at disk power-on'. Personally, I would check to see if it is still under warranty and RMA if possible. If not, I would get rid of it. I have never liked the idea of using any hard disk that has any problems (and locking up a computer certainly qualifies) to store data that I might want to read some day... You could get the WD disk diagnostics tool (free-- find with google) and see what what it says about this disk. Quote Link to comment
tr0910
Quote This drive was purchased 8-9 years ago. I'll just chuck it into a dumpster. Thankfully the old server was able to successfully complete the rebuild. All my old 3tb drives are getting well beyond their best used before date. It seems that the WD die first, then the Seagate 3TB. The 3TB Hitachi's haven't even burped yet. The 3TB Hitachi's are slow and steady drives. They may go for a long time. tr0910
@Frank1940 The rebuild completed successfully, but another drive showed 200 errors during the rebuild process. Does this mean that errors were replicated into the newly built drive and it is not fully perfect? I have 2 parity drives, so that other WDC EZRS can go bad without further issue... Frank1940
As I understand it, those errors detected on another drive (during a rebuild) should not have corrupted the data on your rebuilt drive. If a drive data can not be successfully read, the rebuild should stop at that point (unless you have dual parity). Having said that it is possible that if the original drive had corrupted data on it, the rebuild one could have the same corrupted data on it. It would depend on when the data was corrupted and when the last parity rebuild was done. (It must be further realized that there are two types of 'corruption'. The first is file system corruption-- often fixable -- and data read problems-- usually not fixable!) About the second drive. What are the errors? Another diagnostics file could help here and tell us which drive/disk had the issue. (Makes searching the files much quicker and easier.) Edited November 29, 2020 by Frank1940 Quote Link to comment
tr0910
Herrobin-diagnostics-20201130-0353.zipe is new diagnostics file. Disk is WDC - 7804. Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Disk14 needs to be replaced, if there were errors on that disk only and you have dual parity the other rebuilt disk should be OK, but would need the diags to confirm. Quote Link to comment
