I've searched around and found some relevant topics, but they all seem to be out dated or not really provide a clear yes/no compatibility opinion.
I've got a 1u dell server that I'm using to run unraid (it was free, 2x dual core AMD, and 8gb RAM, heavy duty server components, hard to pass up) which has me limited to 2 internal drives. I currently have 4TB installed, but have an additional 8x 500GB drives that I want to utilize.
I've basically got two options -
something like the Rosewill 8-bay enclosure: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816132016
or to build a shelf (all of my gear is in a 42u cabinet) for mounting the 8 drives and a dedicated ATX power supply, some creative case mods, 1m SAS forward breakout cables, and the SUPERMICRO AOC-SASLP-MV8.
Price is about the same. Aesthics aren't super critical, and I'm handy enough to successfully implement the second option. I'm curious if the Rosewill device will introduce any particular issues or provide degraded performance when compared to the supermicro AOC.
tks - Michael
