  1. I just had a 2TB WD disk red ball, so I swapped it out with another 2TB WD disk that had just finished preclearing for another system. The rebuild process kicked off without a hitch, but now that it's processing, it's going at a whopping 1.6MB/sec. Syslog and screenshot attached. I've already replaced the SATA cable connected to Disk5, getting the same results. Any advice is appreciated. syslog.txt
  2. Click on the Utilities tab and select New Permissions. It'll ask you if you are sure and want to proceed. Click yes. A second window should pop up. This window needs to stay open until the entire process completes or it will not finish successfully. When it's done, it will say "done" or something similar at the bottom of the window.
  3. Beat me to it! Did you upgrade from 4.7? I personally was never on 4.7, I started with 5.0RC8, but I've read several places that after an upgrade from 4.7, you need to run the New Permissions util. I'm not 100%, so you may want to wait for advice from someone more experienced, but I believe that is the case.
  4. I have LogMeIn Hamachi installed, primarily for telnet access. I've found that if I try to access the GUI through Hamachi when I'm out of town or something, the GUI ends up becoming unresponsive... telnet access works fine though. It also allows me to browse my files as if I was right there on the same network, but it is dog slow (the upload speed on my internet package is awful). See this thread: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=7248.105 Of course, you also have to have the Hamachi client installed on whatever machine you are using to access your server, and they both have to be members of the same Hamachi network.

In my main system I'm using a Dell PERC H310. I ran in to an issue where my motherboard would only recognize a max of 12 hard drives (including the flash drive), and the old Promise PCI card I was using apparently didn't function as a controller. You might want to look through the post here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=12404.0 and here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=12767.0 to get an idea of what people are using and if you need to flash a given card with any particular firmware.
  6. I've searched through the forums, and can find all sorts of info regarding using unraid without a cache drive, but I couldn't seem to find exactly what I was looking for. I am in the process of building an unRAID Plus server that is going to be an off-site backup for my main system. Since it's not actively going to be used, I plan on not using a cache drive. However, I don't have an option to replace the cache drive with a "disk 6." I can only start the array with parity and 5 data drives. Do I lose out on the 7th drive unless I'm using a cache drive?
  7. master.h, can you give more details, where my instructions failed? I was not able to flash the LSI P7 or P16 firmware, I kept getting an error message (sorry, don't remember what it was...). I think that I actually was able to flash the firmware in the DELL_IT folder, if I'm remembering correctly, but since I was having all kinds of issues trying to boot my main system with this card, I may have just assumed that your instructions didn't work. I do have another H310 I could try with. I probably wouldn't be able to anything until later this weekend though.
  8. Glad to hear it. I ordered it the same day I posted, it should be showing up soon.
  9. I also have a Dell PERC H310, and was having some issues with it. It would boot just fine in my test system (an old Asus P5N-D) but would not boot in either of my newer systems (Asus P7P55D-E Pro or a MSI 970A-G46). I ended up finding this post by MHzTweaker: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=28727.msg256252#msg256252 I ended up having to put a strip of electrical tape over pins B5 and B6 which apparently do this: As soon as I got that electrical tape on, they are booting just fine. Fireball3 posted here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=12767.msg259006#msg259006 that he was able to flash to P16 firmware. I was not able to do so using his toolset. At the end of this post is a link to my dropbox that has the zip file I used to flash my card to Dell HBA IT firmware. I have also attached a picture of exactly the pins that need covered with the electrical tape. https://www.dropbox.com/s/4jednhrzbnt2tj6/Flash%20Dell%20PERC%20H310%20for%20unRAID%20-%20Custom%20instructions.zip
  10. SOLVED! Solved solved solved! I can across this post from MHzTweaker: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=28727.msg256252#msg256252. In turn, he had posted this link: http://yannickdekoeijer.blogspot.com/2012/04/modding-dell-perc-6-sas-raidcontroller.html Sure enough, after sticking a piece of electrical tape over pins B5 and B6, the card now boots on all of my systems. Attached is a picture. Once I had flashed the card, literally the electrical tape was the thing to get it to work. I've attached a picture of the card, and below is a link to the zip file I used to flash the card. Instructions are in the file. I'll also update the LSI controller thread. https://www.dropbox.com/s/l4kadyukkh2w497/Flash%20Dell%20PERC%20H310%20for%20unRAID.zip
  11. Still no luck. Followed your suggestions, still no boot. I have tried all available PCI2 x16 slots in all of my machines. Only works on the old Asus P5N-D. I tried it in a third system with an AMD board, exact same results (this board doesn't have the memOK feature though). I even have a second, non-flashed H310 that performs exactly the same as the one I flashed (except in the working system, it goes through the BIOS of the card and doesn't work with unraid). Won't boot on the two other systems.
  12. I removed and re-seated both the card and the RAM multiple times, each with the same results: no booting when the H310 is installed. After the first couple times reseating the card, I stopped screwing it in and just let it sit there. I tried removing 3 sticks of RAM and running with one stick in slot B1 with the same results. I will try tonight though running with one stick at a time in each slot and post back with results.
  13. I flashed a H310 with dell HBA firmware using my test system (ASUS P5N-D, 8GB PC2 RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo) and everything went flawless. However, when I moved the RAID card over to my main system (ASUS P7P55D-E Pro, 10GB PC3 RAM, Intel Core i3), it will not even boot. Everything powers on, but it never goes to BIOS or anything. There is a feature on my motherboard called the "MemOK" light. It's an LED that lights up whenever it detects a memory issue. This light comes on every single time I try to boot with the H310 installed. If I remove the H310 and literally touch nothing else, the system starts up fine. Put the H310 back in, light comes on, system won't boot. Does anyone have any ideas?
  14. Here's a link to the server: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182253 Comes standard with 15% discount, use code BTEXLXT35 for an additional 15% off Approximately $150 USD with free shipping.
  15. Has anyone used laptop hard drives in their array? I recently purchased this hard drive cage: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817986007. I installed three of the four drives (all the same drives, WD Black WD32500BEKT: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136279) and they precleared successfully with no errors. I fired up the array with the three new disks (connected via a Promise Sata300TX PCI card) and wrote a bunch of data. However, my first parity check ended up with approximately 6500 errors. I thought it might be an issue with the drive cage, so I removed the cage and connected the disks directly to the card (just left them sitting on the floor). Another parity check, and it was more like 8000 errors. I removed the disks, rebuilt parity, ran another check: 0 errors. Has anybody experienced anything similar? Possibly some issue related to the drive cage, or does unraid not play well with 2.5" drives? I would think the former rather than the latter, as I've read about some folks using SSD's as their cache drive. Any advice is appreciated.
  16. That is correct. I physically re-arranged all my drives not too long ago (on 5.0RC16c) so that I could better know which drive was which in the event of a disk failure. Booted the server back up after changing, and everything came up flawlessly.
  17. I must have just glanced at the preclear results after it finished and probably assumed it was ok. I'll see about taking it out of the array and pre-clearing again for a couple cycles and see what happens. If the sectors don't get removed, I'm not concerned about ditching it, as it IS pretty old and there's no data on it. Thanks!
  18. I copied approximately 5TB of data to my array without the parity drive so the copy would go faster. After the copy, I ran a parity sync. Everything went swimmingly, except for one drive (disk10). I didn't have any data to copy to that particular drive, and figured it was no big deal. I've had empty drives before, and never had any issues. This time, I ended up with 233 errors on the drive after the parity sync. It's a pretty old drive, has been heavily used, but I don't recall anything standing out when I precleared it. Attached is a smart report for disk10, preclear report, and a screenshot. I am on 5.0RC16c. Syslog is too big to attach. Here's a link to my syslog in my dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/g0z3i1jhteyuim3/syslog.txt Thanks in advance. smart_report__100114PC6304VKGLJXLA.txt preclear_rpt__100114PC6304VKGLJXLA_2013-08-09.txt
  19. One thing you could try is the "du" command. If you run that command against your folder on disk 4, it will show you the total size of that folder, ex: du -h /mnt/disk4/Pictures The -h stands for human readable, I believe, and will output the file size in MB or GB, like so: root@Saidar:~# du -h /mnt/disk2/Comics/ 130M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Supergirl 554M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Bleach 177M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Detective Comics 145M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Batgirl 136M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Avengers Assemble 122M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Batman - The Dark Knight 55M /mnt/disk2/Comics/The Mice Templar/Vol 1 Prophecy 51M /mnt/disk2/Comics/The Mice Templar/Vol 2 Destiny 145M /mnt/disk2/Comics/The Mice Templar/Vol 4 Legend 250M /mnt/disk2/Comics/The Mice Templar 171M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Aquaman 147M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Deadpool 87M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Conan the Barbarian 160M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Animal Man 192M /mnt/disk2/Comics/The Stand 592M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Naruto 53M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Larfleeze 140M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Justice League Dark 57M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Iron Man 41M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Star Wars 2013/Star Wars 32M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Star Wars 2013/Darth Vader and the Ninth Assassin 25M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Star Wars 2013/Star Wars Legacy 97M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Star Wars 2013 140M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Warlord of Mars 98M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Wolverine 127M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Ender's Game 31M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Ultron 150M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Green Lantern Corps 143M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Justice League 71M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Nauscaa of the Valley of the Wind 108M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Red Lanterns 61M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Thor - God of Thunder 226M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Green Lantern 45M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Action Comics 119M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Ghost in the Shell 158M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Artifacts 111M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Nightwing 94M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Batman Incorporated 82M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Indestructible Hulk 104M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Warlord of Mars - Dejah Thoris 77M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Green Lantern - New Guardians/Annuals 173M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Green Lantern - New Guardians 49M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Fantastic Four 220M /mnt/disk2/Comics/A Game of Thrones 52M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Deadpool Killustrated 36M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Captain America 162M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Before Watchmen 86M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Batman and Robin 84M /mnt/disk2/Comics/X-Men Legacy 113M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Trinity of Sin - The Phantom Stranger 221M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Wheel of Time/01 Eye of the World 221M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Wheel of Time 39M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Deadpool Kills Deadpool 35M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Guardians of the Galaxy 37M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Constantine 131M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Superboy 99M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Superman 62M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Superman Unchained 340M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Elephantmen 351M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Dark Tower 170M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Wasteland 81M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Avengers 27M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Swamp Thing/Annuals 129M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Swamp Thing 107M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Superior Spider-Man 106M /mnt/disk2/Comics/Attack on Titan 7.8G /mnt/disk2/Comics/ Once you have the size of your final folder, you can run du -h against the original folders, and add up the results. If the numbers don't add up, then some files/folders are missing. There may be a better way, as I'm nowhere near the linux level of some (most ) of the folks here, but that's the first thing that came to my mind.
  20. I was able to scrounge up a Dell PERC H310 controller... I saw a post from Johnodon where he was able to get this same card working with unraid, but he was booting through esxi. That's one thing I'm not quite clear on... do I need to flash IT firmware if I don't plan on virtualizing?
  21. I did update the BIOS, but their most recent update for this mobo is from 2011... their tech support has told me in the past that they do not plan to officially support Windows 8 with this motherboard, so I'd be surprised if they release any more updates.
  22. I have a core i3 installed. It was my old gaming machine from a few years back, and it was just laying around taking up space, so I figured I might as well put it to use.
  23. I currently have an ASUS P7P55D-E Pro, and just found out tonight that it only supports 11 drives. Well, 12, really, but it counts the unRAID flash drive as one of the 12 drives, so *really* only 11 drives. Can anyone recommend a replacement board that will support more than 11 drives?
  24. See this thread: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=28819.0 dang... looks like I'm stuck with 11 drives until I upgrade my board :'(
  25. My motherboard is an ASUS P7P55D-E Pro. 8 onboard SATA are all filled, and I have a 4-port Promise PCI card. If I fill all 4 SATA ports on the PCI card, my USB drive no longer shows up as a boot option in the BIOS. The only way I can boot off USB again is to unplug ANY of the drives, it doesn't matter which one. In the BIOS, USB is configured to boot as a hard disk (tried booting with other options, unRAID would not load as anything else, CD rom/Floppy/Forced FDD). If I have all 12 drives plugged in, the USB does not show up as a bootable device in the BIOS. If I unplug any of the drives, it shows up again. Does anyone have any experience with a similar issue, or with this board in particular?
