  1. I have a Crucial MX500 250GB SSD that I was using as a cache drive and it started reporting a SMART error so I wanted to remove it and investigate further. I had a spare Samsung EVO 860 that I decided to replace it with. I've never used the cache for anything other than Docker and VMs. Never used mover. So I follow the instruction in the wiki and mover empties my Crucial as expected. The first issue arose in that after mover put everything back on my new Samasung cache drive and I rebuilt the Docker image Unraid show 211 GB used on the new cache drive when it was only 133 GB before the swap. Don't know why this happened. Next I couldn't access my Docker containers' pages and then I realized that my custom Docker network was gone. I created a new one and assigned it to my containers and that was fixed. Don't know why this happened. I have two other drives I mounted via Unassigned Devices (Temp_Intermediate and Temp_Download). Now neither will mount. The log shows the following when I try to mount one: Sep 2 20:18:50 Tower unassigned.devices: Adding disk '/dev/sdx1'... Sep 2 20:18:50 Tower unassigned.devices: Mount drive command: /sbin/mount -t xfs -o rw,noatime, nodiratime, discard '/dev/sdx1' '/mnt/disks/Temp_Intermediate' Sep 2 20:18:50 Tower kernel: XFS (sdx1): Filesystem has duplicate UUID 351d1423-92bc-4563-854d-9ac562958721 - can't mount Sep 2 20:18:50 Tower unassigned.devices: Mount of '/dev/sdx1' failed. Error message: mount: /mnt/disks/Temp_Intermediate: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdx1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error. Sep 2 20:18:50 Tower unassigned.devices: Partition 'Samsung_SSD_860_EVO_250GB_S3YHNF0M702349N' could not be mounted. Sep 2 20:18:50 Tower unassigned.devices: Don't spin down device '/dev/sdx'. So neither will mount now, but Temp_Download still shows as a share and I can access it's contents from my Windows laptop. So what the heck is going on with all these issues and how do I fox this last issue? So both sho
  2. Somehow I totally missed this reply until now. So sorry and thanks a lot! You're the best!
  3. I only have 25 Mbps upload speeds. It would take about a year to upload everything and that's not leaving any bandwidth for other stuff.
  4. That is exactly how I am looking to achieve it, Hoopster. Thanks. I was hoping to hear more feedback. Really curious to know if many people backup their entire array. I've been running unraid for ~14 years now and have never had a backup server. Problem is the larger it grows the more expensive it is to build the backup server. I have ~86TB on my server now and that works out to be $1800 in hard drives alone that I would need to purchase. And the longer I put it off the larger that number becomes.
  5. I've long considered building a second unraid server to backup my main unraid server but have never quite got around to it. Lately that's been troubling me and I'm feeling that I should probably do something sooner rather than later. So I am again thinking about building a second unraid server to simply be a backup. My question is how many of you do this and how do you handle it? It seems simple enough on the surface but as I think about it some questions arise: How did you perform the initial data tansfer? And did you verify the accuracy of the transfer somehow? How did the initial transfer affect the performance of the main server while ongoing? Does you backup server stay asleep and wake for the backup? If so, is that automated? What about parity checks? How often and does the server automatically wake for that too? Ideally I would like a "set it and forget it" set up that notifies me after task completion. Do any of you use and entirely different solution? If so, what?
  6. Here are 2 screenshots showing the warning notification from the main page and the other is the SMART data shown when click on "cache" in the main page. It's now up to 100.
  7. Indeed! Updated and now it reports 19.88TB. So now why would the SMART data be saying that the drive is failing due to percent lifetime remain?
  8. I am a bit confused now. I have the DiskSpeed docker and that's where I got the SMART data in my OP. Right now it says Total LBAs Written - 158.90 TB. But if I look at the SMART data in unraid it shows Total LBAs Written - 38794827600. Each LBA is 512 bytes, right? So 38,794,827,600 x 512 = 19,862,951,731,200 or 18.07 TB, right? Or am I calculating wrong? So where is DiskSpeed getting it's 158.90 TB? I read a review that said the 256 GB drive that I have is rated for 100 TBW. So my calculation is way under that and DiskSpeed is reporting over 50% than that rating.
  9. I have a Crucial MX500 250GB SSD that I've been using as my cache drive. I installed it about a year ago and unRAID is reporting that is failing. SMART data being reported: Power on hours - 8646 Total LBAs Written - 158.34 TB Percent Lifetime Remain - 99 (Failing Now) I do not use the cache drive for writing file to the array (no mover). I simply use it to run Dockers. I do run quite a few of them and I have tried to troubleshoot the particular container causing the issue but I just can't seem to to find it. The containers I'm running are: Krusader Bitwarden Clouflare-DDNS Deluge DiskSpeed Emby LetsEncrypt MariaDb Netdata Nextcloud NzbGet Ombi Radarr Roon Sonarr I have tried stopping them all and starting each one by itself to see if one is the main culprit but they all perform writes at least every minute or so (or more often). And it just seems as thought all them running at the same time just adds up. All of the media ay of my containers downloads goes straight to another drive. But there has to be a way to keep them from killing an SDD in about a year, right? My cache is a single drive (XFS) and I am running 6.8.3 Any ideas.
  10. My current unRaid server has been running for about 2 years without issue. I have it plugged into a CyberPower UPS. I haven't tested it in some time but it has always worked and performs a clean shut down if the battery runs low the few times we experience a power outage. Last night we had some pretty severe storms roll through and our power was out for around 2 hours. More than long enough for the UPS batteries to run out and shut down the server. When the power was restored the server wouldn't boot up correctly. I would see the Supermicro logo for a few and then it would go to the BIOS screen for one of my LSI HBAs (I have 3) and then just sit at a black screen. I tried reseating my RAM and even removed all but the minimum for it to boot and it still did the same. Many reboot's and it acted this way everytime. I finally gave up for the night around 10:30. Not thinking I left it powered on at the black screen. Strangely, I am lying in bed and at 11:45 I get an email from the Fix Common Problems plugin saying there are errors (minor things that don't relate to the boot issue). This tells me that unRAID is now running. I haven't had time to attempt another reboot to see if it happens again, but why would it happen at all? And if it does do it again, what the heck could cause the server to take over an hour to boot up into unRaid? And where do I begin to troubleshoot the issue?

  12. So this seems to be really kicking my but and nothing I try works. As I posted earlier I managed (I think) to passthrough my RX 560 to my Mojave Macinabox but there was no graphics line in About this Mac. Should it definitely show up there? Also performance was still very laggy. I then removed that VM and disks and installed Catalina. Boots fine with VNC but I can't get it to boot with my graphics card passed through. Is it definitely true that you need a GPU to get usable performance (just general desktop usage. no gaming) from a Mac VM? I will not be connecting KVM directly to machine and will only be accessing through VNC client. i would really love to get this working but I just keep failing.
  13. Here is my About This Mac screen showing no GPU info. Also, under System Report>Graphics/Displays it says "No information found".
  14. Thanks for that. I copied over the lines from the xm that worked before I passed through the GPU and it now boots. But - it is still slow and it is not showing a GPU under About This Mac.
  15. Yeah, I fixed that but either way, I am still just trying to get it to boot.
  16. I understand the plugin facilitates the building of a Mac VM. I have a running Mac VM thanks to MacinaBox. My issue is that it is very laggy and slow. I was told that is because I didn't have a GPU for it. I was told that even though I only intend to use a VNC client to connect to the VM a GPU will help performance so that is what I am trying to do. I didn't realize that selecting a GPU for the VM would disable the built in VNC. Either way I have Splashtop installed on the Mac VM and it isn't working either.
  17. I watched that video, included the sound card portion of my GPU and made the corrections to my xml. I also edited the network line (forgot about that). My unraid is booting in legacy mode. I also tried to do it on a Win 10 VM I have tunning and it wouldn;t work either. Same as the MacOS. Unraid shows the VM as running but Splashtop says it's down. I don't have an easy way to connect a monitor to the GPU. Any other way to troubleshoot the issue? 18. I purchased a Radeon RX 560 and a HDMI dummy plug. I think I passed it through to my VM correctly and it booted up, but there is no VNC option in unRAID. Splashtop shows it as sleeping/offline. How can I get this to work? 19. What is a good cheap video card to get for good performance of Catalina over VNC (not direct attached montior). Preferably something that works out of the box with little to no effort. I won't be doing any gaming or graphic intense stuff. Just looking for smooth running experience in MacOS.
  20. Thanks for the info guys. I'll try passing through a video card when my HDMI dummy plug shows up.
  21. Well at least I know what the problem is and I have a compatible video card from a Hackintosh sytem I had a couple years back. Time to watch SpaceInvaders video on how to passthrough.
  22. I guess I'll have to get a dummy plug and try a dedicated video card I guess. One question though... what is it about MacOS that requires the dedicated video card.? I have a win10 VM that runs just fine without one.
  23. Stupid question then... I will only be accessing it through a VNC client as the server is way to far from my desktop to run a monitor cable. Will a dedicated GPU still help?
