    Adaptec 1430SA

Before I hit the "BUY" button, just wanted to ask some questions about this card. Does this card need any firmware update to work with unraid? Would I have to disable the onboard bios on this card? If so, I guess i'm going to have to plug in a monitor/keyboard to my unraid box? It should be basically plug and play? I currently have a PCI card, so just plugging those drives into this card and then assigning them back to the correct slots should be fine right? Would it require a new parity build? Thanks
  2. You can just do it from any windows machine as well... just go to \\tower\flash (make sure you have write access to the flash enabled, and uncheck the hide system files to see the actual files) and copy/paste into the flash and reboot the server.
  3. Turning off throttling helped w/ the slowdown of speed while transferring a file i experienced when running WMP or VMC....but neither help in increasing the transfer speed from unraid to my machine...still about 30MB/sec. When i was using Windows Server 2003, i used to get about 65-70MB/sec.... Well, more RAM on the vista machine helped (i was only using 1GB b/c 1 stick had gone bad). Going to 2GB ram and im up to 60/70MB/sec! I dunno which tweak did it lol (b/c i did a lot)

    Bluray .iso's

I'm using BD-Info (to get correct playlist file) along side tsMuxer to rip movie/hd audio/subtitle only, it really saves a lot on the space...sometimes even cuts the movie in half! http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=126139&postcount=13 if you don't need it in ISO format, you can stop at step 12 and keep it in blu-ray folder structure. I keep it in folder stucture and use powerdvd 7.3 and it has played every one of my movies thus far. You can rip movie/hd audio/subtitle directly from the disk as well (as long as you have anydvd hd running in the background)...so there's no need to first rip to hard drive and then strip the contents.
  5. yeah, tower:8080 works fine...i thought u said there was something wrong with my setup of unmenu...lol... u know i was thinking this line awk -W re-interval -f unmenu.awk was some type of test or something AFTER you start unmenu using the "uu" script, heh
  6. i'll have to go home and try this....with windows media player or VMC running in the background i get horrid transfer speeds....i think your reg fix should be the only one needed (after reading ReneV's post), since it completely disables throttling.

I will paste the process report when i get home tonight, but just a question concerning how i initially started unmenu.... although it was started with the loop, shouldn't a power off or reboot just kill that process automatically? 12. Hi, Just installed this and the plugins also, is there a way to automatically start this w/o typing nohup sh -c "while true; do awk -W re-interval -f /boot/unmenu.awk; done" >/dev/null 2>&1 & every time thru telnet when i reboot? My installation folder is /boot/unmenu/unmenu.awk and all the plugin files are also located in that folder (contains only files, no folders)....also, the package manager tells me that i have no packages installed nvm, i guess i have to put it in the go script page Also, the File Browser doesn't let me browse, it lists the folders, but every time i try to enter a folder it says cannot access unknown folder (or something similar, i am not at home right now) Thanks
  13. sorry i'm late to this game, but very interesting! so are all these apps/functions already installed on bubba raid or is each one up to the user to install/download from the bubbaraid menu? As in, i read for slimserver it downloads and then unpacks/installs it on your server, is this the case for all the available apps/functions etc? Thanks
  14. heh, i just took a look at ur previous post and just confused the hell outta me ....no simple "install.exe" packages hehehe
  15. it would be nice to have a mobile version of the forums to quickly browse and easily read on my iPhone...if u can add a mobile/iPhone skin it would be nice P.S. A mobile version of the unraid web interface would be nice also
  16. since i don't allow writing to a user share, i have the following questions, b/c it seems you might require user shares to have writing enabled. When you enable the disk cache for a certain share, a folder by that same name is created in the disk cache directory. This happens automatically. Then i can write directly to //tower/diskcache (unlike writing to the actual disk, parity is not updated with this) and at the scheduled time, the mover will move the corresponding files to the user share disks on the array, which will also build/update the parity. How would this work if you don't have writing enabled? How would it know where to move it (since i only write to a specific disk when needed, would i be able to select which disk i want it written to when the mover moves the data?)? Thanks
  17. looking forward to the final keep up the good work man edit: any chance to add drivers for rocketraid pcie cards? i wanna get rid of my pci card and put in an 8port pcie card..will help w/ the parity build speed. Or i guess i could add in a pcie SIL based card (which as u noted previously the new kernel supports Port Multiplying), which would produce the same speed as the rocketraid card in terms of building the parity. thanks
  18. whats the benefit of a single +12V rail? i'm using this seasonic PSU currently, which has 4 +12V rails at 18A each.
  19. i took those pictures before i installed all the wires, currently I have all 10 slots full. If you look at the picture carefully, u'll see that the promise card is installed in there in the first PCI slot, just no wires connected. As for expanding, currently I am waiting to see support for the PCIe rocketraid sata card, so i can install those (either 2 4port or 1 8port) instead of the PCI cards, it will speed up the parity checks/builds...although currently I do get around 40MB/sec for a parity check. And yes, If i do expand to 16 drives, I will have to use the esata port....unless I put another controller card in there, but only 1 of those ports will be used so the card would be a waste.
  20. fatal

    RocketRAID 2320

i would also love rocketraid driver support built in hopefully tom will in his next release
  21. That mobo is still available, but not from newegg. Directron, mwave, dell, zipzoomfly should still have them in stock. Would I change anything? No, everything fit together nicely, at first i thought the PCI slot would limit my streaming of HD content, but 2-3 HD streams all from HDDs on the PCI bus was running smooth. Only time the PCI bus really limits is when building/checking parity, as it is the slowest link in the system. Maybe find a couple of compatible 4port PCIe sataII controller cards (or a single 8 port card) instead of using the PCI card. I wouldn't mind picking up a semi-cheap non-hardware raid 8port pcie controller card myself One thing I did change was instead of the 2gb kit, i bought a 1gb kit (2 x 512mb sticks), since unRAID only recognizes and uses 1gb of RAM. I used the 2gb in another htpc build, so it didnt go to waste. Currently I have 10 drives, and the PS is more than capable of keeping up. 500w is more than enough for 15drives w/o a hiccup! Also, i'm using a 2gb cruzer micro flash drive that i picked up for $20 at best buy, if u get that, just remember to remove the U3 software thats loaded onto the flash drive by default. good luck!
  22. here's my build you can get some help from: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=896462
  23. well, your server was prob off b/c of the lights flickering as you said and you prob had a power outage or something. As for the mobo/fans powering on and then off when turning ON the psu switch, i experience the same thing, so i'm guessing its a bios "feature", prob a little self test or something. Nothing sounds out of the ordinary about your system to me
  24. try zipzoomfly, mwave, dell, etc just do a google search
