  1. Well after ton of reading about security and users, I found that everything was setup properly. So I gave up and rebooted my win7 box. @#$!@#$ Not is works just fine. go figure, dave
  2. I just upgraded to 5.0_6a. Now when I try to browse view windows explorer I cannot access any of the shares. If I try to access a user share \\tower\my movies I get prompted for a username/password. Never seen this before. If I try to access a disk \\tower\disk1 I get an error that it does not exist. I'm running Win7, but did not have any issues with v4.4.2 I'm sure I'm just missing something in the samba configuration, but I don't know where to look. thanks dave
  3. Rob, Thanks so much for looking into this. I copied a 1GB file to each of my drives and all copied at around 10-12MB/s. This is much better than I was seeing before so I looked into it a little more and found that the issue was user error. When I measured before I was not using copy, but had a program copying for me. It turns out that it is the program limiting the copy speed not UnRaid. Marking as solved. thanks again, dave
  4. Ok me again after the reboot. After reboot memory was at 53% so I started the file copy again. Speed is 1.65 MB/s memory is at 97% used and I"m hitting hith wait states again 8-34%. I"m out of ideas.
  5. Ok of course I see something after I post I'm actually running BubbaRaid and was looking at the System information page. It showed the memory at 99% utilized so I logged in and ran top. I'm seeing 34% wait state. This is why I"m slow. I then sorted procs by mem used and the largest one is smbd at 2% of the memory. There are no processes using any memory. My uptime is 150 days, but it seems that there is a memory leak somewhere. Guess a reboot is in order.
  6. All, I've noticed that over the last couple months my UnRaid writes have slowed way down. I have it configure with a cache drive. I used to get ~20MB/s kind of write, but now I"m at 2MB/s. I have not changed anything in over a year on the server, just let it run along happily. I'm running version 4.4.2. The UnRaid is connected to the PC via a GB switch so I don't think it is that. It has never been the bottle neck before. I've tried writing to UnRaid from 4 different computers and they all experience the same issue. I don't see any errors or warnings in syslog. Though I'm not positive I know what to look for. Hoping someone can help me figure out why performance went wrong. It takes longer to copy the DVD than to watch it thanks, dave
  7. Agree with the SATA cable sentiment, don't get me started on HDMI cables! dave
  8. Is there a posting somewhere that describes the "packages" available with unMENU? I'm currently using BubbaRaid and use: apcupsd uNotify lighttpd I was thinking of waiting until 5.0 came out with the updated web interface, but it does not appear to be coming soon. thanks, dave
  9. I'm slowly moving half of my unRaid from IDE to SATA so I have 4 IDE icy dock trays that I don't need, nor want sitting in my office. Three of them never even had a HDD in them so before I junk them I though I'd ask if anyone would like them. If you do, you can have them for shipping costs. I also have an IDE PCI card that they were hooked up to that I'll throw into the box with the most ICY docks I'll be shipping from 78664, or if you live in Central TX we could meet and I'll just give 'em to ya. PM me, dave P.S. - if this is not an appropriate message just delete please. Don't wish to make waves . . .
  10. Ok after some work on google fixing my search strings I found something that worked quite well. Here it is: find . -iname Folder.jpg -execdir mv {} folder.jpg \; Just in case someone else needs something similar. dave
  11. I have 355 files names Folder.jpg in my music library that I need to change to folder.jpg. When I batch ripped a bunch of stuff I had a typo in it. I was hoping someone would know how I could rename all the Folder.jpg to folder.jpg with a little unix script. I've been looking at something like: find -name Folder.jpg -print0 | xargs mv . . . But don't know how to do the rest Any other suggestions? thanks dave
  12. I've had it working flawlessly for me for the last couple years. No complaints at all from me.
  13. Anyone use BackupPC or know the difficultly in getting it up an running on UnRaid? My brother has it running on his dedicated backup server and I have it backup my UnRaid to his place for my offsite backup plan, but I'm thinking I may want to have my own BackupPC running to backup my PCs in the house. Just curious as to an experts opinion on the difficulty in getting this setup and running on UnRaid. thanks, dave P.S. - I've had really good results with BackupPC and even my kids have been able to restore their lost homework using the web interface.
  14. I looked at that, but it does not remove bubbaraid from the flash, just changes the image that it loads. I'll have to get a clean install and compare the two I reckon. dave
  15. I've decided that I'd like to return to the plain original UnRaid and try out UnMenu. Since I became Bubba-fied I have replace and added a couple drives so I need to know how to get back. I have a second license/flash drive. I imagine I could install UnRaid on that and then copy over super.dat? Can someone help me remove the Bubba from my Bubba-UnRaid? thanks, dave

  17. My second power supply fan quit working, though it is still working, so I thought I would swap it out for a new power supply I had sitting around. When I hooked up the new power supply it did not work. I hooked the 24 pin connector that I use to connect the two power supplies together, that works with the current power supplies, but it just did not power any of the drives. I do see a red led on the unit so I know that it is getting power. I then hooked it up to the motherboard, which only has a 20 pin power connector, and it would not turn on then either. Ideas? thanks, dave
  18. Anyone have one sitting around they'd like to get rid of? If so I'd be interested in buying it. thought I'd ask here before I buy one from Newegg. thanks, dave
  19. I downloaded the nc-1.1 package, then use the mail script found here on the forum somewhere ( attached it) and do this in my go2 script. installpkg /boot/packages/nc-1.10-i386-1.tgz cp /boot/config/mail /usr/bin/mail sed -i -e "s/SYSADMIN=root/[email protected]/" /etc/apcupsd/offbattery sed -i -e "s/SYSADMIN=root/[email protected]/" /etc/apcupsd/onbattery sed -i -e "s/SYSADMIN=root/[email protected]/" /etc/apcupsd/commok sed -i -e "s/SYSADMIN=root/[email protected]/" /etc/apcupsd/commfailure sed -i -e "s/SYSADMIN=root/[email protected]/" /etc/apcupsd/doshutdown
  20. That makes sense. I don't mind making my changes, I just use sed commands in go2, but thought others may have a better idea. A setup would be great! thanks, dave
  21. apcupsd question. I just had a powerfailure that lasted for 45 minutes. This was long enough for my unRAID to cleanly powerdown, but I noticed that the UPS did not turn off, so when the power was restored I had to start the server manually. I got looking into this to see why and think I found a problem with the bubbaRAID install. For the UPS to kill the power lines, you have to tell it to do so. From the manual you need to insert: # See if this is a powerfail situation. if [ -f /etc/apcupsd/powerfail ]; then echo echo "APCUPSD will now power off the UPS" echo /etc/apcupsd/apccontrol killpower echo echo "Please ensure that the UPS has powered off before rebooting" echo "Otherwise, the UPS may cut the power during the reboot!!!" echo fi somewhere it will be called if the system is shutdown. There are a couple places you could put it, in /etc/rc.d/rc.6 so that it is the last thing done before the shutdown happens, or you could put it in the doshutdown script that apccontrol calls when shutting down the computer. This is nowhere in the system that I can find. Secondly, and I"m a little shakey here, the existence of the /etc/apcupsd/powerfail file is used to detect a power failure induced shutdown. I believe this file is created by apcupsd when it sees a power failure. However, this file is installed from the flash in /boot/bubba/apcupsd so it will always exist. I think this is wrong. Anyone else? With the powerfail file existing, if part one is done, then all shutdowns will cause the UPS to kill the power. So I think we need to remove powerfail from /boot/bubba/apcupsd and put in the changes to killpower on detection of the powerfail file. Or am I just missing something? thanks, dave
  22. I find that rtorrent dies periodically and has to be restarted. I don't see anything in the log files that suggests what could be happening. Anyone else seeing this? thanks, dave
  23. Talking about additions I thought I would post my go2 script as these are things I add to bubbaraid and thought someone else might find them useful. These are a collection of things from the forum, and what I've come up with on my own. # rsync needs a password file for remote access so copy it over and start rsync # Enable rsync for backups cp /boot/config/secrets /etc/rsyncd.secrets chmod 400 /etc/rsyncd.secrets rsync --daemon --config=/boot/config/rsyncd.conf #install packages for unraid_notify installpkg /boot/packages/cxxlibs-6.0.8-i486-4.tgz installpkg /boot/packages/socat-1.7.0.0-i486-2bj.tgz # I use nc and a script to provide a default mail program installpkg /boot/packages/nc-1.10-i386-1.tgz cp /boot/config/mail /usr/bin/mail # Change apcupsd files so that I get email when something happens to the UPS # This work in conjunction with the mail program above, as apcupsd is setup to email # alerts already. sed -i -e "s/SYSADMIN=root/[email protected]/" /etc/apcupsd/offbattery sed -i -e "s/SYSADMIN=root/[email protected]/" /etc/apcupsd/onbattery sed -i -e "s/SYSADMIN=root/[email protected]/" /etc/apcupsd/commok sed -i -e "s/SYSADMIN=root/[email protected]/" /etc/apcupsd/commfailure
  24. I was not able to get it working with a basic no login required mail server either so I changed it to use my gmail account. dave
