  1. Thanks.... My post was more to try to find out how to lift and replace the Cache without having to redo all of the stuff I have on my current cache drive. Fitting the new SSD's, physically, isn't a super big concern. "So I guess the real question, Is there a recommended way of moving everything I currently have on Cache now and then be able to "move it back" once I've installed the new SSD(s), or should I just rebuild everything that I have today on my HDD Cache (not my favorite option)."
  2. The case is pretty tight...It's been a while since I've had to crack it (one of the reason I love the cages)... I'm not super worried about losing the one 1.5TB Data Drive, I have several TB's free and can pretty easy bump up a few other 1.5's to 4TB's.
  3. Longtime unRAID user, but only recently moved to v6 (which I'm finding awesome BTW). I have a 20 Drive Array (18 data+Parity+Cache) which is maxed out my internal physical drive capacity (Qty (4) 5-in-3 Cages). I've recently setup a couple Docker Apps and a couple VM's, and also use my Cache Drive for a couple legacy apps (Sabnzbd + Sickbeard, etc) that I plan to move to Docker eventually. I have a single older 750GB Cache drive in place now that gets super hot (heat alarms pretty consistently, plus Reallocated Sector Ct, etc), its pretty slow and probably about 4x larger than I probably really need right now. So I'm looking at moving my current Cache drive to SSD (or SSDs in a Cache Array). So I guess the real question, Is there a recommended way of moving everything I currently have on Cache now and then be able to "move it back" once I've installed the new SSD(s), or should I just rebuild everything that I have today on my HDD Cache (not my favorite option). As far as single cache vs array, I have a smaller 1.5TB drive in the array now that I could pretty easily move the data from to free up a 2nd slot, so I could get 2 SSD's and setup the cache array, just so I would have some confidence in my cache as I continue to build and do more with VM's and Docker Apps. I guess I have to also figure out what kind of 2.5 SSD tray I might get to work with the IcyDock HotSwap Cages as part of my 5-in-3's, but first things first since I havn't picked out or purchased the SSD's yet either. Thoughts or advice? -SW2
  4. Not sure I understand why or how, but there was a recent change to a file in my /plugins folder webGui-latest.txz. I removed that file, rebooted the server again and now have access to my console. -SW2
  5. I've had my unRAID going with zero issues now for several months (since a hardware upgrade earlier this year). Zero issues, zero changes, had completed a full Parity Check about a week ago with no errors or issues whatsoever. Running Stable 5.0.5, but have a couple plugin, UnMenu, Sabznb, Plex, etc. I can Ping the Server (by both IP and Server Name, which is MEDIA), I'm able to Telnet to the server, I can access both user and disk shares on the server (after sending a poweroff comment from telnet session and powering back on). I don't get a DNS error, just a blank while page on either IE or Chrome on multiple PC's. Attached Syslog. Any ideas? syslog.txt
  6. There is only 2 mentions of IPMI anywhere in the Manual that I found...ftp://ftp.supermicro.com/CDR-X10-UP_1.02_for_Intel_X10_UP_platform/MANUALS/X10SAE.pdf Page 65 Question: Why can't I recover the BIOS even when I’ve followed the instructions in the user’s manual for the motherboard? Answer: Please disable the IPMI jumper and try it again. For the jumper location, please check Chapter 1. Page 75 Energy Performance Use this feature to select an appropriate fan setting to achieve the maximum system performance (with maximum cooling) or maximum energy efficiency (with maximum power saving). The fan speeds are controlled by the firmware management via IPMI 2.0. The options are Performance, Balanced Performance, Balanced Energy, and Energy Efficient. This SM page does not list IPMI under the X10SAE board but do a number of the other Server MB's... http://www.supermicro.com/products/nfo/Xeon_X10.cfm?pg=MB
  7. I ordered the E3-1230 v3...There was a bundle deal with the SM MB and didn't see a HUGE difference in the Passmark scores between the 1230 and the 1240. Here is what I ordered today... Intel Intel Xeon E3-1230V3 Haswell 3.3GHz 8MB L3 C SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SAE-O ATX Server Motherboard LGA SUPERMICRO AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 PCI-Express 2.0 x8 SATA x2 Kingston 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Unbuffered DDR x2 Note, to anyone looking at this motherboard, even though NewEgg (and other WebStores) indicate IPMI, looking at SuperMicro's site (and scouring the BIOS) it appears that it does NOT and they are using some generic language from SM on the overview (unless I'm really dense and just missing it). SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SAE-O ATX Server Motherboard LGA http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182831 Although at the end of the day, not a huge deal breaker for me... I had an old PCI VGA card laying around, a 20ft VGA cable that reaches from the server to a monitor and I rarely need access directly to the server.
  8. So far so good with the new SuperMicro MB and my existing Power Supply... everything up and running on the new system and working well as far as I can tell (I did have to swap out one of my IcyDock 5in3's as there seemed to be and issue with one of the ports) New Noctua Case and CPU fans and it's MUCH MUCH quieter. I've setup my Plex, Sickbeard and SABNZB on it so far (taking those services off of my primary desktop), and will be looking into some of the Virtualization stuff as time permits. I'm still running 5.0.5, and now that I have all my plug-ins setup and configured the way I want them, am less inclined to move to 6.x until it's final (and I figure out how to backup all my settings for my plugins). SW2
  9. Appears that drive was the issue... Will make sure I "mark" it for destruction... The 750GB I just tossed in the same slot is now formatting correctly...
  10. I just looked at my Log (which I should have done before I asked... the Cache Drive (sdn) looks like it has all kinds of Errors, maybe that's why I removed it from the Array... I'm going to try another drive and see what happens.
  11. unRAID version 5.0.5 - NO Plugin's, 100% Bone stock (I'm 99% sure) - SysLog attached. I just did a pretty major HW upgrade (Motherboard, CPU, RAM, SAS cards, etc). All of the drives show up with the new system, Array Started Shares accessible, etc, everything is good there... Because of the new config, I was able to add my 20th Drive to the array (was limited to 19 on my previous hardware), and was going to go ahead and add a Cache drive so I could begin to setup some apps such as Plex, Sickbeard, SABNZB, etc. Cache drive installed (physically), added to the array in the "CACHE" Slot... the drive shows up as "unformatted", which I'd expect, pretty sure it was an old 1TB that I at one time used in the Array, but had upgraded (and might have precleared, but not 100% sure) I click the "Yes I want to do this" check box, click FORMAT and nothing happens. Have tried a few times, removed and readded Cache Drive to array, restarted, etc. I have other drives I can test too, but haven't gone that far yet. Syslog.zip
  12. This isn't 100% related to my unRAID server, but trying to add as an accessory to "backup" some parts of my unRAID data for safe keeping from my Windows PC's. I picked up a Rosewill RSV-S4-X (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816132029) several months ago thinking I could add more drives to my Array... I've since decided that was probably a bad idea and was just going to use the unit with 4x 1TB drives (that I since upgraded from my primary array) to have for backups of my most critical data from my unRAID, just in case. Anyhow, I'm having some challenges getting the enclosure to detect more than 1 drive in the enclosure on a couple different Windows systems. The first is Win 8.1 Update 1 using the included Sil3132 eSATA card that came with the unit. During boot-up, and in the Utility, only 1 drive appears and only 1 in Windows Disk Mgmt The 2nd PC is a Windows 7 SP1 using the onboard eSATA connector from my Asus P5B Deluxe (older MB - http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/P5B_Deluxe/), again, only 1 drive showing up during boot and in Windows Disk Mgmt. There does not appear to be any jumpers or settings otherwise physically on the Rosewill enclosure so not sure exactly where to look next. I guess possible that I just got a "dud", which I'm sure is well outside of Return policy, but I'd guess still in warranty. Any ideas or thoughts? Thanks SW2
  13. The integrated video on the E3-12x5 versions is only "useless" if you buy a motherboard with IPMI. Note that I said that in my comment ... i.e. Thankfully the MB you recommended and linked in your earlier reply and the one that I ordered (SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SAE-O) has IPMI so getting the E3-12x0 v3 CPU should be OK, yes? So if I want to plug VGA into the Server, just during config, I'll either have to add a Video Card, or connect via IPMI (which I have no clue how to do yet). Also, I was thinking about my Power Supply, other than Noise (which I know it's making some) will it be OK with the MB/CPU Combo? 1000W, 80A on a single +12V Rail, which at the time back in late 2011 when I bought it was what was recommended for a "larger" 18-20 drive server.
  14. Thanks, swapped cables and rebuilding at 40-42 MB/sec (through first part of rebuild) which seems more "normal"
  15. So one of my drives Red Balled when I attempted to upgrade to to 6.0b4. Since there had been so errors or SMART issues what-so-ever (and the fact that I don't have a replacement drive on hand, on order), I attempted to just remove the drive from the Array, re-add the drive and then rebuild. I started the rebuild last night... it was still running this morning and then again after work today. It was running at less than 6MB/min most of the time... I finally stopped it cause it was going to take another 50+ hour to finish, so I assumed something was tragically wrong... This error was over and over and over in the log before I stopped it... is this just a tragically BAD disk, or something worse? 17. Thanks, I'll look into it... I used SAB a while back on my UnRaid and didn't have much luck so I will give NZBGet a try... I also use Sickbeard which I"m also running on my Windows PC that I'd like to offload to the UNRaid.
  18. I am unhappy with the performance (and noise/heat)... I am doing more BluRay streamed from Plex as well as would like to move my Sickbeard/SabNZB off my primary Window box to the UnRaid among other things. Parity and rebuilds seem much slower than I think they should (I don't know the exact MB/Sec, but generally ~25-30 if I remember correctly). Point taken on the backup comment, probably not articulated correctly... I do have files on my UnRaid that are in the dozens of TB range that I don't have anywhere else... I'd be sad if it were lost, but not sad enough to spend the $$$$ to spin up a secondary UnRAID to make a replica. The "important" stuff is backed up from my Primary PC to the UnRaid as well as an offsite copy that I maintain on a quarterly basis.
  19. I built my original UnRaid server back in 2008ish, it has changed and morphed a bit over the years (most recently in 2011), but generally has served it's purpose. I’ve added storage, RAM, upgraded the original Celeron CPU, replaced the power-supply, and added drives and changed SAS Cards since originally built. Store all my TV, Movies, Music, Data Backups, PC Backups, etc, etc. on there. It has been great for everything I've thrown at it. I think it's time I consider an upgrade of some of the guts (primarily MB, CPU, Case Fans and CPU Fan, and maybe new SAS Cards)… I think the Case is still decent, albeit HEAVY (holds my 19 Drives in the 4 5-in-3’s), I *think* the Power Supply is OK (more recent), but the MB/CPU are pretty dated and maybe the SAS/SATA cards are not optimal. I also have a real NOISE (and heat) problem. I have the 4 80mm Fans from the IcyDocks, then 3 other 80mm’s (2 at the bottom rear of case, 1 top middle of case blowing out) and a 120mm Rear behind the CPU and am using the stock Intel CPU Cooler which is also noisy. Obviously not all my drives are “Green” but they still run pretty warm and the system is so loud when spun up, I actually have to turn it off to take conference calls when I’m working from my home office. I know there are some quieter fan options (Coolink Swif2-801) for the 80mm’s, and I’m sure I can get something quieter for the CPU and the 120mm rear fan as well. Here is my Config as of right now: Case: Cooler Master CM Stacker STC-T01-UWK - http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16811119039 Motherboard: Asus P5B-VM DO v101.g - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131085 CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115003 Power Supply: Cooler Master Silent Pro M - 1000W (RSA00-AMBAJ3-US) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171049 HD Trays: (4) x Icy Dock 5 In 3 MB455SPF-B http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817994028&Tpk=MB455SPF-B Memory: 4 GB Total - A-DATA 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2 6400 and Corsair 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2 6400 SATA/SAS Cards: SUPERMICRO AOC-SASLP-MV8 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816101358 and Adaptec RAID 1430SA http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816103105 Drives: - Ball Park of 30TB of used Parity: 4TB Seagate ST4000DM000 Data Qty 4 - ST31500341AS 1.5tb Qty 1 - ST4000DM000 4.0tb Qty 9 - ST1500DL003 1.5tb Qty 4 - ST3000DM001 3.0tb Here is an Outside view So I guess the first question is does it seem to make the most sense to keep the case and 5-in-3 trays and Drives that I already have and upgrade the MB/CPU, etc? I need to be able to support up to 20 drives total (which) is all I have physical space for without going External enclosure, which I don’t want to do. Any suggestions for MB/CPU Combos as well as “quieter” CPU Fans? I don’t need to go bare bones (prefer Intel) and I do Plex streaming as well as Full BD and 1080P internally at home so willing to go bigger than I need if necessary for future growth. No VM’s right now, but not out of the question in the future. When I upgrade, can I just get all of the drives recognized on the new hardware and then reassign the drives in UnRaid without risk of losing my data as it (too big to backup)? Thanks for looking and for your advice! SW2
  20. uninstall any plugins, including the webgui upgrade Thanks, I didn't have any plugin's except for the WebGui upgrade, I thought I had removed that for my last upgrade, but apparently didn't... removed that from my Plugin's folder, restarted and the GUI is back to "normal" seeing my drives, and Parity Check is now chugging along.
  21. Upgraded 5.0.5 to 6.0B4 and I only see the header, regardless of what tab I'm on... No Drive info, no Share info, no Users, Settings, etc, etc... you get the idea... I can see there is a Parity Check happening per the top right status thing, and my shares are started because I can access from my Windows Box, but the new GUI on my system seems borked, same on IE, FF or Chrome. SW2
  22. Solved sorta by myself.... Removed the eSATA enclosure... And did the "New Config" in the GUI (which booted just fine when the eSATA was removed), reassigned all the drives to their original position (took a screenshot of the GUI last time I added drives) and it's now doing a Parity Sync with the original 18 Drives (which I guess should be fine!) Plugged the drives into a Windows 8 System looked at the drives with YAReG and there is no Data on any of those 4 drives that I need to move over, so all is right with the world again! Wade
  23. UnRAID Pro 5.04 A few weeks ago I added a 4 Drive eSATA enclosure with Port Multiplier (Rosewell RSV-S4-X) to my UnRAID Pro system and everything had been working with no issues, at least as far as I could tell. I was able to add the drives format them, extend the Array (drives 19-22) and add those drives to shares. No indication that anything was off or weird. I had to shut down the Main server earlier today, and upon powering back up the Server was not coming up (was booting, but no WebGUI) The server is starting, I can log in via Telnet and get s SysLog (attached), and am seeing a bunch of the following errors. Dec 19 15:01:58 media kernel: ata11.05: hard resetting link Dec 19 15:02:02 media kernel: ata11.15: qc timeout (cmd 0xe4) Dec 19 15:02:02 media kernel: ata11.05: failed to read SCR 0 (Emask=0x5) Dec 19 15:02:02 media kernel: ata11.05: failed to read SCR 0 (Emask=0x40) Dec 19 15:02:02 media kernel: ata11.05: failed to read SCR 1 (Emask=0x40) Dec 19 15:02:02 media kernel: ata11.05: failed to read SCR 0 (Emask=0x40) Dec 19 15:02:02 media kernel: ata11.05: link online but device misclassified I guess I'd like to figure out if there is a way to get it up and working long enough to see if any data got stuck on these drives and then just remove the entire 4Drive enclosure array from my Server. If I Can't get the drives back up, and am OK with just losing whatever data was on there, how do I go about changing the config of the rest of my UnRaid if I can't ever get into a GUI? Any thoughts? I've tried a couple different eSATA cables with no change. Thanks in Advance! Wade syslog.txt
  24. This is a good buy, and I've had good luck with these (about 12-14 of them in my UnRAID Now). I was getting these for about that price ($69ish) before the floods from Amazon.Com. I just ordered 3 of these from this link (and will submit $20 rebate on the one), and replace the last (3) 750 GB Drives in my Array.
