  1. Now if that would just push the 1 TB down to about $100... although the PricePerGig is awful close (just under) to the what the $139 1 TB Deals have been... Not sure I'm excited to buy a new one just to have to use it as my Parity drive (since it has to be the biggest).
  2. 16MB Cache... $10 more for the Seagate w/32 from ZZF (Not sure the average UnRAID will notice a difference). SW2
  3. Well, I found my confirm email and used that link and I'm still at "Order Processing"... (was @ work and didn't both to Remote back home to find the email) I'm not holding my breathe since people are getting the cancel emails... I haven't yet, but guess that I will. Wade
  4. Mine doesn't even show up on my Dell Order Page, even though I got an email confirm at the time of making the order. Have not received any other notification, so not sure if it got canceled, never submitted, or just isn't showing up on the "My Account" Page (which I've seen in the past with other orders from Dell).
  5. In for (2)... we'll see if we get em or not for that $$$... Wade
  6. I agree that if the 1TB can drop a little, might be time to start replacing some of the older 300/400GB's in the unRAID now... And I'm guessing that we will see a 2 TB announcement before the end of the Year... the Technology is more or less the same at the 1tb and 1.5tb... I think Seagate is still trying to find the right "market" since other than a few of us tweakers and some gamers and stuff, the "masses" are still buying smaller drives... OEM's are still buying 200-300 GB for a majority of the systems they are selling, at least to business customers.
  7. Anyone found these to buy from anywhere recently? I got mine a few months ago and now a friend wants me to build an unRAID for them, and can't find em anywhere... ASUS P5B-VM DO Motherboard and/or COOLER MASTER CM Stacker STC-T01-UWK Case
  8. Looks like I lost the Temp Readings on the drives connected to my SUPERMICRO AOC-SAT2-MV8 card as well... Cache Disk Comes up now and I hope to give that a little testing this evening and see how the Mover thing functions overnight tonight... Without going back to the Beta4 description Post, am I correct in remebering that the Mover will not remove the empty folders from the Cache Disk once it's moved the stuff from the Cache Drive to the individual drives from the user share. Thanks SW2
  9. Any word why so many of us are having boot problems with Beta 4? There are posts in the 4.3 Forum where at least a few are having similar boot issues with the new Beta... SW2
  10. I just added (2) 750Gb PATA (7200RPM Seagate) drives to the 11 other SATA drives I had and notice no difference streaming movies from them. I think it should be fine
  11. Depending on your definition of "recent", that is true. It was 2005, I believe. Of course, it can take a while for a company to truly digest another and bake its corporate priorities into the new products. Hopefully that is a positive change - certainly that is the perception of most. Maxtors come with three year warranties and I have had zero of them fail (more anecdotal data) vs. two for WD and zero for Seagate (out of perhaps 20 drives total - the rest kept going until their use was no longer necessary). Yes, I would prefer to have Seagate, but I don't think the difference is very much and having unRAID minimizes the risk of quality issues anyway. Interestingly, the price differences these days are minimal, whether we are talking about different brands or refurb vs. new. I recently saw refurb 750GB Seagate (old ones, the 7200.10) for about $10 less than a new one. Thus it pays just to wait for your personal favorite to go on sale and buy a bunch. Bill There is very little difference quality wise now...they are more or less coming off of the same lines...just depends on which stickers get slapped on at the end (at least that is what i'm lead to believe)... most of the Maxtor Retail stuff (External Drives like the OneTouch, etc) are actually getting Seagate drives in em if you were to pull em open (and if they acutally had stickers on them, which some do and some don't). There is VERY little "old" Maxtor left any more, other than the name, a small % of employees and a big plant in China, (and a few other small things). SW2
  12. Two of them acutally 1) @ What Temp should I get worried about my HD's? I see upper 40's and some 50-52 is if I have been doing a lot of activity... 2) I currently have 10 Drives (9+Parity) of varying sizes for something between 3.5-4TB... I'm filling that fast and still have a lot of DVD's to scan... I have a couple newer 750 GB PATA drives that are not purposed for anything else right now that I would like to add at least until I can get a 3rd 5-in-3 SATA Backplane and some newer SATA Drives (which might be a while). Should I even mess with the PATA drives, or will there be enough difference in speeds between the SATA drives I have now and the PATA drives that I might not want to do this? Thanks SW2

    SATA Backplane

I have 2 of these (IcyDock 5 in 3) and thinking about getting a 3rd...Worked pretty good once I got drives that were good! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817994028 SW2
  14. Thanks for the tip... I just printed a bunch of labels for the SATA Cables as well as for for the front of the trays to try to keep everything neat and organized... I'm just impatiently waiting for all my stuff to arrive... MB Showed up yesterday, and I have the drives (most of em) and everything else is intransit.
  15. NICE, I hadn't see a lot of talk about that specifc branded backplane on here or AVSForum and was hoping they would be decent! Thanks Wade
  16. Really? ... it was also posted somewhere (either here or AVSforum) that this card also works on standard PCI Slot as well... will need to find the Post... http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=976.0
  17. Well, I pulled the trigger on some stuff tonight... I went ahead and got the extra SATA Card beucase I think I have access to a pile of 300-400 GB SATA's that I might bump my initial setup to 10 Drives, but will have to see. I will be ready for the extra drives with this setup (at least to 10, physically will just need a 3rd Backplane).
  18. I'm not really sure about the Case still... while I'm sure this case is NICE, it's more 1/3 of the price of the whole setup and I'm not sure I'm going to need/want a huge 16 Drive setup or anything... $89.99 (After MIR) – CASE : Antec P182 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129025 I'm thinking about that case now. I have a P180 for one of my other PC's, and it's one of the nicest cases I've ever worked on (as long as the PSU cables are long enough since the PSU sits on the bottom away from the MB. If I could still use a 5in3 or 4in3 in the top external 5.25", I could get either 6 or 7 internally with what I believe is adequate cooling, for a total of 10-12 drives total depending on how I had it setup. I think this will be fine (especially since I'm only starting with 6 (I think). Any thoughts on unRAID case options? SW2
