  1. the 550 VX looks nice too but is 25 euro more.. you say the cx might work with 15 drives, thats ok for me then since 15 really is the max im gonna build in -> perhaps i will only go for 13 drives, cause the cages 5 in 3 is too expensive according to me... that way i can make a second server instead its even far away, since i only got one 2tb hdd yet (still not full) so still a long way to go to 13 drives so with this info, i think the 500cx will do about the case, since theres no big difference between the cm 590 and the sharkoon ill probably go for the sharkoon .. thatway i save 25 euro , so i can pick up the faster mobo and cpu
  2. thats a bit too complicated for me .. i think, read it 5 times but i cant get the message lol
  3. 2x2gb is nice but you where on a budget but if you have the money get a 2 stick of 2gb memory Cosair PSU are nice and a 500w should be enough for green Hard Disks (WD green, Seagate LP) but if you go for 7200 rpm disk you better get 700w. go for a single rail PSU so you don't have to worry about how each rail is being loaded http://www.corsair.com/products/vx/default.aspx ok so probably a 500Watt corsair vx.. might do? (max 15 drives)
  4. FYI, mine is a Rebel 12, not a Rebel 9. I haven't really looked at the 9, so couldn't tell you what the differences are... mmm if you compare rebel 12 to the coolmaster 590 case... what are main differences/advantages over eachother?
  5. Now I know why I had you two confused over on mpcclub. Welcome to both of you, and I hope you find the information and help you need. To add more confusion, I'm not on mpcclub! The plot thickens! haha!
  6. usb stick, i got one here somewhere about PSU, hard part any suggestions? i've looked into that part (about v12) but i dont understand it much... Max expantion will be 15 hdds i think so 500Watt? or less? or more? about the ram since its dual... i thought 2x2 runs smoother and more energy efficient?
  7. Taking a closer look at http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=757&type=expert&pid=5 thx to a friend .. M4A78LT-M -> AMD760G chipset M4A785T-M -> AMD785G chipset It seems most difference is in the graphical capacities, so not important for unraid it also says the 785 chipset uses less energy but immediately after that they say they tested the 785chipset with ddr3 and the dd760 ddr2, so that might be the reason So with ddr3 it will be almost the same i pressume + it costs less so the choice for m4a78LT-M is definit now !
  8. true lol i just see.. i'm mistaking i was looking at the m4a78lt-m thats only one letter different than the m4a78l-m that does use ddr2 indeed, ur true anyhow i think that one isnt for me then (or you guys think ddr2 is an option??? or better go for ddr3 as planned (not much money difference) but founding m4a78lt-m (which is cheaper), has ddr3, socket am3, with graphics onboard, gigabit network (nic chipset?) whats the difference here with the m4a785t-m? You won't notice a difference between DDR2 and DDR3. Comparison M4A78LT-M: 760G North Bridge, ATI 3000 on-board graphics M4A785T-M 785G North Bridge, ATI 4200 on-board graphics Go with the best deal. Both will work fine. Well, m4a78LT-m is best price when i ordering im gonna make sure its not the LE Version also ddr2 seems more expensive than ddr3 (lol thats strange, i thought ddr3 was faster and would cost more..) anyway, if you guys assure me m4a78LT-M will work fine.. then that will be my mainbord.. Kingston will be the ram but not sure 1x2gb or 2x2gb
  9. Ok good to know but now i found another mainboard, called asus m4a78lt-m , which is not on the list, will it work? what do you mean with "tried and true option" ? difficult to decide between those two cases, any advantages/differences you see in the cm 590 over the sharkoon?
  10. true lol i just see.. i'm mistaking i was looking at the m4a78lt-m thats only one letter different than the m4a78l-m that does use ddr2 indeed, ur true anyhow i think that one isnt for me then (or you guys think ddr2 is an option??? or better go for ddr3 as planned (not much money difference) but founding m4a78lt-m (which is cheaper), has ddr3, socket am3, with graphics onboard, gigabit network (nic chipset?) whats the difference here with the m4a785t-m?

  12. Hi - guess who? As far as I know, the "T" uses AM3 socket and the "L" uses AM2+. Also the "T" uses DDR3 memory and the "L" uses DDR2 (I thik I got that right). well hello strange, look at this page http://azerty.nl/8-1126-257521/asus-m4a78lt-m-moederbord-.html it says socket AM3 and: "It features dual-channel DDR3 memory support and accelerates data transfer rate up to 5200MT/s via HyperTransport 3.0 based system bus. " i dunno whats the difference between those 2 mainboards...
  13. Comparison M4A785T-M: Requires DDR3 memory, 785G Northbridge, 4 memory slots M4A78L-M: Requires DDR2 memory, 760G Northbridge, 2 memory slots so with M4A78L-M, dd3 doesnt fit? or is it minimum ddr2? 2 slots is enough for me though the only thing that bothers me now, is that it hasnt passed all 3 tests yet... although i cant seem to find the m4a785t-m on the list either...
  14. oh sweet, much to read the more i read, the more i love unraid right now
  15. going for this board, or the me4a785t-m whats your opinion guys? whats the difference between these 2? any update on the next level for this board?
  16. ok, only level 1 tested, how about the other levels?
  17. Can you tell me what the difference is between asus m4a78L-M and m4a785t-m? Both support wol? For now, i dont see any reason to pick the m4a785t-m instead of the cheapier m4a78l-m
  18. For that I recommend a dual core you like a 240e or 250e, so you always that extra power when you need it. When they go idle they will not use more than an 140. When you use unraid 4.5.6 rc3 you can use 'modprob powernow-k8' to turn on te power saveing of the cpu (you can add it to the go script, but now where going a little deeper in to unraid) ok thx, script thing is chinese for now, and i wont look deeper into it cause i want to make the server first Possibilities mainboard: Asus M4A78L-M for 55 euro Asus M4A785T-M for 67.5 euro (i dont see the difference with the first asus?) Biostar TA785G3HD but impossible to find lol
  19. i dunno if i need lots of applications? This is what i want now: All data should be accesible for each user (even playing movies from the central data place from 2 different places at the same data should be able to run with hesitation, ex: me watching movies in front of tv, and my kid upstairs watching his movie from the same place at the same time) - should be resistant to hard disk failure - easy to expand, (4x2tb will do for now, but there it should be easy upgradeable and quite cheap ) - Not too expensive in buying (in steps) - Very important : it should be a low energy costing system when its running - Gigabit speed for transferring large files (movies) - FTP server - Streaming media server - Possibility to download (not sure if im gonna download upstairs, unpack and then move the file to the data storage or download from the data storage place, unpack it there and stuff... i dunno how you can see then if its corrupt...) - Mail server I dunno if i need more app. Maybe once i'm in to it, i see more helpfull applications About the link you gave me.. i'm really interested in a low energy CPU so it should be a sempron 140 or 145 or an x2 240e or 250e
  20. 1) AMD Semprom 140 or X2 250 Intel Celeron 430, Celeron E3000 or Atom D510 (get a faster one when you trancoding) 2) Yeah i just when for a stock intel board I could get for cheap and it had 6 sata 3) if your going for amd then make sure it is am3 4) I mean nic = onboard Network card on the motherboard, make sure its not Atheros brand cause that one is not supported but check the motherboard topic to see what people are using what the problem could be and what the fixes are btw what is you media player ? htpc, NMT or a console ? about 1) i was looking at the amd sempron 140 other im interested in is the amd sempron 145 (noticeable next to the 140?) or the amd athlon II x2 240e (noticeable next to the sempron 140?) or the amd athlon II x2 250e your opinions ! (no intel for me please) I'm using a dune base 3.0 player
  21. how do i know if its a low power amd or intel? biostar truly is hard to get here thinking of motherboard, should i go for am2 or am3? whats onboard nic? you mean onboard graphical card?
  22. So which of those 3 would you chose? (other people may answer too)
  23. Well, i inspected all those pages before Nice pages !! Looking closer to the case: I had these 3 in my mind (is it correct to start chosing the case before everything else, or do you start with the motherboard?) - Cooler Master centurion 590 for 67euro - Zalman MS1000-HS2 for 138 euro - Sharkoon rebel 9 economy 42 euro (or value 53 euro) i dunno if i need the hot swaps... it is handy though...( in my dune 3.0 base i have a hot swap place for a hdd right?, just push it in?) is there a possibility to build hot swaps in the cooler master or sharkoon?
  24. Hello, Originally i was planning to buy a Synology NAS, but when looking deeper into the matter, i came to this place... First thing i want to ask is that if this is all kinda easy to setup, im no newbie in setting up pcs, but i am to "linux" Anway, I've been reading a lot here on the forum and on the internet, before making this step. What i want exactly: - All data should be accesible for each user (even playing movies from the central data place from 2 different places at the same data should be able to run with hesitation, ex: me watching movies in front of tv, and my kid upstairs watching his movie from the same place at the same time) - should be resistant to hard disk failure - easy to expand, (4x2tb will do for now, but there it should be easy upgradeable and quite cheap ) - Not too expensive in buying (in steps) - Very important : it should be a low energy costing system when its running - Gigabit speed for transferring large files (movies) - FTP server - Streaming media server - Possibility to download (not sure if im gonna download upstairs, unpack and then move the file to the data storage or download from the data storage place, unpack it there and stuff... i dunno how you can see then if its corrupt...) Another thing i want to make clear is that my complete setup should be in stepss so: step 1: buying hardware to make a server for 3 bays with room to expand step 2 (might come close since i already got 2tb full of movies) going from 3 bay to 6 bay (and buying unraid plus) step 3: going from 6 bay to 10,12 or 15 drive (not sure about how many i want, but 15 is way the limit) Setup and prices is WITHOUT harddisks, and system should be a low energy running system My budget for step 1 is 300 euro max 350 euro (i live in belgium, can buy in netherlands too) Can you guys be so gentle to help me... Finding a nice expandable good case, motherbord and cpu and stuff Thanks in advance !
