My Netgear WNDR4500 does have PPTP/VPN forwarding, however i dont know how to use it? Is it the same as openvpn?

I was just looking into possiblities on how to do this, since i was not able to forward ports sucessfully, the method i used to do it seemed to work that is why i posted here I am looking into setting up VPN and doing this, however would a VPN work over the phone/tablet if i want to access the server?

I was able to do this by setting up my modem to be a dumb switch and my Netgear router to do the PPOE dialing and then port forwarding gets easy as well, since you have to forward the port on your router only. Now only need to figure out on how i can add some security to the server to prevent intrusion. Although i just needed to access the server from outside for FTP transfers and transmission.

I had installed the transmission plugin and it worked fine untill the rebooted the server, now it wont update nor start. I get a PID not created error. Install path is set to: /mnt/cache/apps/transmission

I tried un-plugging LAN cable, it wont boot up automatically, however when LAN cable is plugged it does boot up within a few minutes. There isint much setting to play around with in the BIOS relating to WOL.

So, i enabled this feature on my Asus P85M mobo, and when i shutdown the server, after a few minutes it boot up online again. There is no network activity or anyone trying to access the server. I do not have any plugins or scripts on the server for wakeup or shutdown. ANy clues what could be causing this?

I have a netgear WNDR4500 router, however my internet line is connected to a cheapo modem as the netgear is a wifi only router. So the connection goes like this: tel line>> modem >> netgear router> router to all other devices. Now my question: 1) Do i need to forward ports on modem and router as well? 2) My router has a built in Dynamic DNS option, but i can use dyndns only (i dont mind paying for it if it works) 3) My router has VPN/PPTP option as well. I enabled the dynamicDNS option and put in my username and pass for dyndns account however if i try to go to the hostname i created on their site it prompts me with a login prompt, the logins to which i dont know and i also dont know as to what the login promt is for?

I understand the risk involved in this, however i would like to have it atleast to be able to add torrents to transmission remotely and at times when i need to grab imp files off server.

Say for example Disk 1 with SN: ABC is set as DISK 1 in unRAID, so then if we change the setup in future the DISK with SN: ABC would have to be set as Disk 1 only? Regardless of what port on the mobo is connected to??

I had not restricted writing of shares to any particular disks. If i want to keep track of what disk was assigned what number and which disk is in which drive in my chasis, what would be the easiest way to do so?

Is it ok if i just set the parity and cache disk correctly and the data disk numbering in not the same?

Yes, i can ping from my router assigned IP to my modem IP, (pinging from 10.xx.xx.xx to 192.168.1.1 which is modem gateway IP) Is there a benefit of running the DHCP server on the unRAID, like i can use it to access the unRaid server from outside the network?

I was actually just installing the plex and bitsync plugin, they were downloading and i left the PC on and left. When i got back it threw up some error and the NAS was stuck on the screen. So i had to do a hard reboot. After i setup the OS again should i just copy the data off the flash disk to a safe location or is that some other method to do a backup?

No Though i did not have any data on the drives, i had just setup the NAS was playing around with things so never moved any data to it. Should i just re-setup everything now?

Yes, its the correct flash and yes i can write files to it.

File check came up with no errors however the flashdisk shows no files in the flash.

Ok, So i was installing a few plugins like Plesk etc and ran into a system crash, had to reboot the server and now it wont come online, shows an error : SYSLINUX 4.03 2010-10-22 EDD copyright ERROR: no configuration file found no Default or UI configuration directive found. boot: can someone pls help.

Can this work if i am behind a modem serving IP ranges 192.XXX.XXX.XXX and a wifi only router on IP range 10.xx.xx.xx ? All my devices are connected directly or via WIFI on the 10.x.x.x rages. Will need to do port forwarding or anything?

What could be the reason for being able to see the drive? No drivers?? Anything to fix this?

I had a buffalo NAS configured to RAID0 and i used to easily get 80MB/sec+ (this was on the same network using same networking gear) Also do we need some special drives for the Samsung 256Gb SSD? i got one however it does not get detected by unRaid even in BIOS.

Actually the 1x4TB + 2x2Tb are not yet connected, i am waiting for the Supermicro SAS card that i ordered to arrive. Rest 6 devices are connected via mobo sata ports.

I am trying to see what would be the best possible way to access the unRaid server from outside of my home network, say through VPN, or remote browser access etc? I would like to be able to achieve this with the minimalistic software installation possible( dont want to install softwares of every PC i want to access the server from).
