  1. Yeah I think its just a finnicky Ram issue. I bought the exact ram on Supermicros compatibility list now, just need to wait for it to arrive.
  2. Got everything put together on the weekend and no post . Took out CPU2 and left only two sticks and I get video but it’s stuck with 2F on the bottom right. Bought some additional ram that is confirmed to work with my mobo and am hoping for the best. Mobo is a X9-DRI-F-O
  3. The gaming performance will not be the best because most of the games available do not utilize all of the cores available and are single thread dependent. I wish that would change so I would be able to replace my main machine.
  4. Hope this clarifies it some. When you write new data to a user share that is cache enabled it is written to the cache disk, later at a specified interval or when you manually invoke mover it is moved to the array. The data will not be copied back to the cache for read reasons. This would actually just slow things down... (There is talk about accelerator drives which would use a script to cache frequently accessed and small files, but this isn't built in, and the reason this would speed things up is because the data is already on the cache before you know you want it...) If you want to keep data on the cache, you have to make it cache only currently, this prevents it from being moved at all. This is the perfered method of running apps / dockers on unRAID currently. Also you can take backups of this data, or you can configure a BTRFS RAID 1 Cache pool. Any purpose for the Raid1 pool other than redundancy?
  5. I figured but I’m worried after reading a few posts on servethehome stating there were issues with certain power supplies with these dual cpus even though the wattage requirements were met.
  6. Dual CPU and gfx card users- what PSU are you guys using? Trying to piece together my build and I’m stuck at this point. Will be using two of these cpus, a gfx card in the future and around 12 hdds.
  7. It's great and all that unRaid is getting these new features, but only a portion of its users can take advantage of this whereas a feature like Dual Parity can be used by everyone and is arguably more valuable. Is that even being worked on?
  8. Syslogs attached, not sure what's going on here. I've swapped all of the wires in this build. All. Every SATA and SATA power. It has to be one of my drives at fault, how can I test for speed? I don't notice any slowdown in day to day usage (steaming media) but it's entirely possible I just haven't accessed whatever bad drive exists. No plugins are running except for the GUI and acupsd. I had a similar issue before during a rebuild but it resolved itself... Thanks again, as always, guys. syslog.zip
  9. Did you attach your drive via SATA or USB? It doesn't seem to recognize the drive when it's attached via my usb adapter. Thanks for the link
  10. hey guys, My latest failure has been a 8 year old cache drive. Is there a way to recover files from it? When I attempt to recover files using something like iCare Data Recovery it can find some old files. The main thing I want to recover is the apps directory on this drive. The iCare Data Recovery app is automatically categorizing the files into different groups (i.e., videos, images etc) and this is useless for recovering the directory. I'm not sure how to proceed since the drive was formatted with the default filesystem in unraid (reiserfs). What are my other options?
  11. My Cache Drive failed last week after a good 7 years or so of use. I bought a new WD Blue 1TB drive, and started the preclear process... Except that, it doesn't seem to be moving. The first preclear I attempted started fine. The pre read was going around 150 megabytes before I left for work. When I came back, it dropped to less than 3 megabytes. I stopped the preclear and changed the drive's location within the server and attempted another preclear. Same issue. Here is what I see on the 3rd attempt after moving the drive again: Here's a Smart test smartctl 6.2 2013-07-26 r3841 [i686-linux-3.9.11p-unRAID] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-13, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Model Family: Western Digital Caviar Blue (SATA 6Gb/s) Device Model: WDC WD10EZEX-00BN5A0 Serial Number: WD-WCC3F4XHKHY7 LU WWN Device Id: 5 0014ee 2b5e1c237 Firmware Version: 01.01A01 User Capacity: 1,000,204,886,016 bytes [1.00 TB] Sector Sizes: 512 bytes logical, 4096 bytes physical Rotation Rate: 7200 rpm Device is: In smartctl database [for details use: -P show] ATA Version is: ACS-2, ACS-3 T13/2161-D revision 3b SATA Version is: SATA 3.1, 6.0 Gb/s (current: 6.0 Gb/s) Local Time is: Sun Feb 22 14:19:25 2015 EST SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability. 12. I have an R3 and an R4. I wish they'd make a model that was pure 3.5" drive bays.
  13. I documented my last hard drive purchase from them recently, after not purchasing from NewEgg in years. Here's that thread: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=36708.0
  14. Ok, I'll try swapping cables around. unRAID remembers the drive position via Serial Number, right? So it won't matter if I swap actual cable positions, correct? I remember reading somewhere that this is how it works but would like clarification before I remove all SATA cables. Thanks for the help
  15. Any chance you can attach the full syslog? http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Troubleshooting#Capturing_your_syslog Sorry about that. Just rebooted and captured it again. Same issue. syslog.zip
  16. Without hotswap bays, the odds of you inadvertently touching them (and knocking them around) are pretty good when you replace the power supply feeds to the drives. Yes, you're right but I recabled everything after I replaced the Power Supply using the same connectors. I might have a few lying around, I'll try replacing ones that look stressed (some of the 90 degree cables).
  17. No hotswap bays. Would cables suddenly go bad if I've been using them for 4 years without touching it? The problem is very frustrating, considering that I waited so long to get this adapter card working, lol. I'll just buy a new set of SATA cables and see if that works. I upgraded the Power Supply fairly recently because I had an issue of drives being dropped. Once I replaced the Power, everything was fine again until these crop of issues. Syslog attached. Thanks for all the help (as usual). syslog01-24.zip
  18. Guys, finally installed a new M1015 after having issues with the first one I purchased and everything boots fine. I'm trying to rebuild a red-balled disk and the rebuild is going very slow. I couldn't rebuild on my old card because the drives would randomly drop from the array. Here's the syslog, I have no idea how to troubleshoot this.
  19. Guys, I recently purchased a M1015 to replace my existing 4port controller card because I've been experiencing a bunch of issues with it. I'm trying to flash it right now. I installed it into my HTPC (ASUS P8H61-I) but it doesn't seem to be detected. Nothing in Device Manager, during the POST, nothing at all. I tried running the megaraid utility to search for adapters and it doesn't find anything. I did some searching and discovered that 1) the card has LEDs and 2) another user that attempted to use the same card ran into similar issues and resolved it by flashing his BIOS. I decided to skip that and just throw it into my server to get it up and running because I know my server is on the latest BIOS. My server uses a Supermicro X7SPA-HF. I installed the card as normal but once again, nothing at all. No lights on the card or anything too. Syslog attached. Needless to say, I'm extremely frustrated and at a complete loss. How do I proceed? Thanks for any and all help, as always. Is it DOA? Thanks syslog1-8.txt
  20. So I shut down the server and reseated all the cables and the card. I also disconnected one of the new WD drives I bought because I figured it could have been a power issue as well. When the server came back online, all was good, with Disk 3 still Red Balled. I just reassigned that position with the other new, successfully precleared, drive and the rebuild was successful. I'm running a preclear on that old 2tb (the one that Red Balled) to see if it's salvageable. I'm currently looking to invest in a M1015 to replace the card I currently have. Thanks for all of the support. This community is what makes unRAID so great.
  21. And reseat the controller board. Triple check the SATA power cables to those two drives. I assume that you have been inside of the box to install the new drive. It is not unusual to loosen SATA power cables when installing new drives-- particularly, if the replaced drive is in the middle of the cable. (I know I have done it myself!!!) What's confusing is that the drives were available when I first booted the array. Would the drives be available and then suddenly be dropped if cables were the issue? How do I go about reassigning the drives after a reboot? I'd like to minimize the potential data loss.
  22. Disk 3 is the disk I want to replace, the 2TB Seagate. Syslog attached. syslog.zip
  23. Recently, one of my old drives gave out. I bought a new 3TB WD Red from NewEgg, but that arrived damaged. That drive is on it's way back. Earlier this week I bought another two WD Reds from BH Photo and Video and began preclearing the drives to replace the failed one. The Preclear on one of them was successfully completed and I just went to assign that drive to use it in the array. To my surprise, two of my other drives are now missing and the Array shows an invalid configuration. I just stopped the array. Here's what I see: I do believe that those two drives are on the same 4 port controller card and are not on the main 6 ports on the Motherboard. How do I proceed? I'm sure that the data is intact and that this is some sort of wiring or hardware issue with the controller.
