  1. I just upgraded from 4.7 to 5.0 and I don't know where to go from here. I did install unMENU, screen, and a few other packages, but is that the way I should be installing things? Is there a snazzy new package manager built into 5.0? There's a plugin Control Panel that I was looking at, but I don't know if it will play nice with unMENU. Should I even keep unMENU or are there other plugins that do things better? I'm preclearing a new 4TB drive right now hence the upgrade to 5.0 in the first place. It just seems like I'm going in 10 different directions and I don't know where to go from here. All my data seems to be intact and I can access my TV Shows form the media player downstairs like normal.
  2. Back down to $169.99 now. I'm surprised no one else grabbed this at the lower price yesterday.
  3. Well, I ordered one with some Amazon credit I had in my account. Just stinks that they only limit you to 1 drive per account. I sell on AZ as my full time job so I don't want to jeopardize that with using different accounts to circumvent their policy.
  4. From SD. Anyone think these will go much cheaper in January or not so much since 5TB drives will be so costly. Lightning Deal: Intended for NAS installations. http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-SATA-Cache-Drive-ST4000VN000/dp/B00D1GYO4S Model: ST4000VN000 [seagate.com] Size: 4TB (4000GB) RPM: 5900 Additional: Includes TLER (Error recovery control) for RAID environments. Reduced vibration versus desktop drives.
  5. These are the drives that park the heads every 2 minutes and are only rated for 300,000 parks.
  6. Anyone think these will be the same price or lower once the 5TB drives are released? I'm waiting till January to do my upgrades on the server, too swamped right now to work on it.
  7. Damn all these 2yr warranties. My drives always seem to crap out between 2 and 3 years for some odd reason.
  8. Too bad the Seagate isn't the ST4000VN000 NAS drive.
  9. Isn't the warranty voided once you remove the drive from the external case?
  10. I'm in Denver so usually there's a few air pillows that pop as they're going up to my elevation in every shipment I receive.
  11. Going to sell off the 2TB drives for cheap?
  12. I hate IE. Back when I used to code websites I'd always have to write in hacks just so things would display correctly like they did on Mozilla browsers. It's always causing one problem or another.
  13. ^^ Could it bounce all over the box or was it tightly packed? Do you remember which warehouse it shipped from?
  14. I'll keep an eye on that post for updates.
  15. I'm not buying any more hard drives from Newegg until it has been confirmed that they have learned how to properly pack drives. Another member here say said that they are obtaining the correct packaging materials, so I'll sit tight until then. Plus the price will likely drop once the 5TB drives are released.
  16. Newegg tends to pack their hard drives like crap unless something has changed recently.
  17. I bought a Pro license, at the time 3TB drives weren't in view and I wanted to make sure I wouldn't reach a capacity limit early on ETA: Is it possible to do the Amex and V.me offers in a single purchase?
  18. Yes, if I needed to it would be fairly easy to order another 2TB drive, clear it, and add it to the array. Then come January I could upgrade to 5.0 and go with a 3TB or 4TB drive for parity. I have 1.75TB free on the server right now and I don't foresee filling that up in the next few months. I'm more concerned with quieting the beast down and being able to sleep the server than I am right now about disk space.
  19. I have 15 hot-swap bays and I'm only using 6 of them including the parity drive. I believe I have another 2 SATA ports free on the motherboard, and if not I have a 2port SATA PCI card here somewhere. I'm pretty busy with work now and will be till after Xmas so I'll likely revisit this at that time. Thanks for your time.
  20. Well, hopefully it never comes to that. I won't have time to do the upgrade in case there are complications until after Xmas anyways.
  21. So I have all 2TB (and one 1.5TB) drives in my server and I'd like to add another drive to up the available space in the next few months. Is there any benefit to waiting or should I grab a single 3TB drive now? I'm on 4.7 so I'd have to upgrade before I put the 3TB drive into service.
  22. Yes, I understand that. Any sensitive documents live on at least 2 computers including the unRAID server. But a lot of the stuff are large files and another server isn't in the budget right now.
  23. Awesome, thanks! I'm super busy with work for the next few weeks so don't rush on my accord
  24. This is what I worry about. So if something does go wrong is it possible to recover?
  25. How safe is it to upgrade from 4.7 to this new 5.0.2 release? Any reason to worry? I've been on 4.7 for years now but would love to be able to sleep the server as well as scale down the AMD CPU as it runs at full speed all the time. I don't have anywhere else to backup the data, this server IS my backup
