  1. I found a patch in below thread. Any chance one of the developers can look into whether this could be patched for Unraid? https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/novnc/bOpKeuZCd7s
  2. My VM is installed on the cach drive. However, when I stop the array, also the VM stops running. Is this expected behavior and is the VM (with Win 8.1) hybernated or properly shut down when stopping the array? Thanks in advance for any answers and thoughts. Thanks!
  3. I prefer to use everything in the VM rather than using dockers. Same for sabnzbd and the other things. Feels all-in-one-place. Also, this allows me to use Kodi nightlies and stay up to date on some of the recent great development (retroplayer, etc).
  4. that's right, there was a GPU though obviously not used. one weird thing is that it used to work on unraid VM when I ran win8.1, but does not work when using win7. not sure whether anything else different, by definitely not the GPU. I only have one GPU, so unraid VM cannot access it. I can try team viewer on the weekend, but wouldn't really be what I want as it requires another software to install.
  5. yes, tried noVNC and it doesn't work. it used to work via RDC when I used to run a headless win7 (but not VM), but only as window (not full screen). I don't plan to watch videos, but use it to update the library and use upnp sever. I know I could go this with headless kodi, but I prefer to always use the latest version and it's easier with a VM with screen to tinker.
  6. using VNC. I only have one GPU, so that's my only choice if I understand it right?
  7. any thoughts on above? would love to use my mouse when accessing the VM through noVNC.
  8. I tried to run the "normal" Kodi in a VM with Win7. Unfortunately, I cannot start Kodi as it gives me the error message "Error: Unable to create GUI. Exiting". I had this problem in the past without VM when accessing a headless server, but this could be fixed by running Kodi in a window rather than full-screen. Has anyone succeeded to run Kodi in a Win7 VM on Unraid?
  9. I think I found the issue. I am accessing my VM over a notebook with touchscreen and noVNC defaults to touch-use. Any chance for a bug fix for the next release?
  10. I have enabled the bridge with bridge name "virbr0" under network setting and same name under VM manager / default network bridge. I thought / would have hoped that this allows me to have the same IP address for both Unraid and the VM, which would allow me to map SMB drives locally (without going through router) and overall simplicity of having one IP over two. I am trying to make the impossible happen and/or what am I missing? How to get one IP?
  11. I now did the step and successfully installed Win8.1. Was quite surprised that this went rather easy. I have a few questions though: 1) I am using VNC to access the VM. Unfortunately, I cannot use my mouse remotely through VNC. How can I enable this? 2) VNC is not full-screen. Possible?
  12. Got it, that would be the same bottleneck I would also have when copying via command line? So, the VM does not make things slower compared to going through command line? Thanks again, really appreciate all the help bringing me up to speed!
  13. i think our post overlapped. So, the internal bridge will allow this to be as fast as copying from one local file to another local file (and no need over the network)?
  14. Thanks for your quick reply. Sorry, I am having a hard time to express my question clearly. I have data disks in the array (let's assume 16 of them). From what I read, I can mount these 16 disks from the array as disks accessible through the VM over SMB. If I copy from disk A to disk B, will this be as fast as with a native Windows solution with local disks? Or does the SMB protocol require me to copy the disks somehow over my home LAN. For example, I can now access over SMB these files over the network from my notebook computer. But copying from drive A to drive B takes ages as it copies it from server disk A to notebook to server disk B. I can of course use the command line to speed this up, but was hoping that this may no longer be required after having the VM up and running.
  15. Ah got it, this answers my question. Thanks! What about Win7 vs Win8.1 vs Win10? And one more thing about SMB. When I copy files between two NTFS disks over SMB connection, will this be fast or will this require the files to copied over the network?
  16. Very cool, thanks for your reply. This is helpful. The disks in my array are formatted in XPS file format. I would have expected Windows to have some problems reading and writing to these disks? From what you say, this would not be an issue? Two more questions: 1) Is Win 8.1 still the best supported OS for VM on Unraid 6? What about Win 7 or Win 10? 2) When setting up the VM, I can only select VNC, but not the GPU on my mobo. Am I missing anything or is that not possible? Thanks!!!
  17. I am very glad to read this as I have the same baord and same/similar objective as you (Kodi, media server, mysql, sabnzbd). I have not observed the hiccups yet, but am sure this will come. Can you point me to the watch-outs? Also, I "only" have 6GB of ram and wondering whether you expect signicicant improvements by adding more ram? And last question, are you running a Win7 VM and what is your experience with this setup?
  18. Yes, working now. Thanks a lot!!!
  19. Any interim fix? I actually have the zip file (downloaded elsewhere), but no idea how I can install it?
  20. Amazonaws is not accessible in China... Other plugins install well, but RC2 is hosted on amazonaws cannot be accessed...
  21. Is there any alternative way to install the upgrade? Unfortunately I cannot download download files from amzonaws from my Unraid server. Any chance that I can download the zip file from another machine and have Unraid extract and install?
  22. I am about to try out to install Win7 in a VM. Had a few questions before pulling the trigger: 1) I saw in the wiki that I can point it to an existing Win7 installation. In this case, would it copy all data on this disk or just use the reference for the Windows ID? 2) Would this process require me to buy another Win7 license or can I use the license from the existing install? 3) Can I access the array and easily copy between drives inside the array. They are in XPS, so not sure whether Win7 in the VM can read/write to them easily? 4) Can I boot directly in the VM and the array is still active in background? 5) Does Windows Remote Desktop work and can I run the whole thing headless and access from another notebook? Thanks in advance!!!
  23. thanks, is this still planned for 6.1 or now for 6.2? or dropped for the roadmap?
  24. Wow, this is great! I was using RC1 6.1, but could not add an NTFS drive to the array. Did I overlook anything or was this feature moved to a later release?
