How do you look at memory consumption of the container ?  Via the "docker stats" command ?

I don't know when exactly CrashPlan needs most of the memory, if it's during the synchronization process and/or during the backup process.  So you may have to let it run for a while before seeing its "real" memory usage.

Under the 'advanced' view of the Docker page in the Unraid GUI.

I assumed that the synchronisation task would be a high memory usage situation because of the comment from support:

    Quote

Taking a look at the account it looks like you may need to increase your computers memory allocation to the Code42 application. CrashPlan performs data de-duplication from the Code42 app. This process uses the computer's memory to determine if block data is unique or duplicated. The Code42 app uses more memory as the size of the data in your file selection grows.

So I was thinking that the issue I was having (the "synchronising file information" task always failing and restarting), was due to low memory, and so am was hopeful that it would work correctly now that I've upped the memory allocation.

And, indeed, even though the Docker is using the same amount of memory as before (around 1GB), the file info sync is now at 95% complete.

So fingers crossed it completes this time! I was getting close to buying a second hand NAS to install at a friend's place and replacing CrashPlan with rsync...

Not sure about the inconsistency.  Is the variable defined only once ?  Maybe try to re-apply the setting.

But the variable seems have been applied properly:

[cont-init.d] crashplan-pro.sh: setting CrashPlan Engine maximum memory to 3072M

You can confirm by looking at /mnt/user/appdata/CrashPlanPRO/log/engine_output.log: You should have a line with "-Xmx3072m" (or -Xmx4096m if you changed it via CP without restarting).

    The log contains the line

    -Xmx3072M

I applied the Crashplan console command (java mx 4096) without restarting the container.

My synchronisation is now at 83% so I'm going to wait to see if it completes before I change anything that will require a container restart.

If the engine log shows 3072, then is it likely that Crashplan doesn't need more than the ~1.1 GB it's currently using?

    Thanks for your help.

Looks good... Just to make sure, provide the whole log:

27/05/2021 17:19:24 X DAMAGE available on display, using it for polling hints.
27/05/2021 17:19:24 To disable this behavior use: '-noxdamage'
    27/05/2021 17:19:24
27/05/2021 17:19:24 Most compositing window managers like 'compiz' or 'beryl'
27/05/2021 17:19:24 cause X DAMAGE to fail, and so you may not see any screen
27/05/2021 17:19:24 updates via VNC. Either disable 'compiz' (recommended) or
27/05/2021 17:19:24 supply the x11vnc '-noxdamage' command line option.
27/05/2021 17:19:24 X COMPOSITE available on display, using it for window polling.
27/05/2021 17:19:24 To disable this behavior use: '-noxcomposite'

27/05/2021 17:19:24 Wireframing: -wireframe mode is in effect for window moves.
27/05/2021 17:19:24 If this yields undesired behavior (poor response, painting
27/05/2021 17:19:24 errors, etc) it may be disabled:
27/05/2021 17:19:24 - use '-nowf' to disable wireframing completely.
27/05/2021 17:19:24 - use '-nowcr' to disable the Copy Rectangle after the
27/05/2021 17:19:24 moved window is released in the new position.
27/05/2021 17:19:24 Also see the -help entry for tuning parameters.
27/05/2021 17:19:24 You can press 3 Alt_L's (Left "Alt" key) in a row to
27/05/2021 17:19:24 repaint the screen, also see the -fixscreen option for
    27/05/2021 17:19:24 periodic repaints.

27/05/2021 17:19:24 use RECORD extension to try to detect scrolling windows
27/05/2021 17:19:24 (induced by either user keystroke or mouse input).
27/05/2021 17:19:24 If this yields undesired behavior (poor response, painting
27/05/2021 17:19:24 errors, etc) it may be disabled via: '-noscr'
27/05/2021 17:19:24 Also see the -help entry for tuning parameters.
27/05/2021 17:19:24 You can press 3 Alt_L's (Left "Alt" key) in a row to
27/05/2021 17:19:24 repaint the screen, also see the -fixscreen option for
    27/05/2021 17:19:24 periodic repaints.

27/05/2021 17:19:24 If this makes the key mapping worse you can

27/05/2021 17:19:24 Also, remember "-remap DEAD" for accenting characters.

Have you tried the x11vnc '-ncache' VNC client-side pixel caching feature yet?

The scheme stores pixel data offscreen on the VNC viewer side for faster
retrieval. It should work with any VNC viewer. Try it by running:

        x11vnc -ncache 10 ...

One can also add -ncache_cr for smooth 'copyrect' window motion.

If you look at the container's log, do you see a message like this:

setting CrashPlan Engine maximum memory to 4096M

I searched for the word "memory" in the log accessible from the Container icon menu, and it found no results.

    EDIT:

Also, FWIW, the memory usage for the container hasn't gone above 1.11 GB, and has now dropped back to 1.099 GB. So it's barely using any more RAM even now.

I currently backup 3.6 TB to their servers, so I would expect it to want to use more than the current 1.09 GB RAM.

  6. FYI:

My account hasn't backed up for 15 days now because it is constantly "Synchronizing File Information."

It seems to get to a point then starts over from the beginning again (the highest I've seen it get is maybe around the high 60s?).

I contacted customer support, and they replied with the following:

    Quote

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Code42 support.

Taking a look at the account it looks like you may need to increase your computers memory allocation to the Code42 application. CrashPlan performs data de-duplication from the Code42 app. This process uses the computer's memory to determine if block data is unique or duplicated. The Code42 app uses more memory as the size of the data in your file selection grows.

    https://support.code42.com/CrashPlan/6/Troubleshooting/Adjust_Code42_app_settings_for_memory_usage_with_large_backups

    I recommend the following:

    Open the Code42 app

    Press Shift + Control + C

Copy and paste the following command: java mx 4096

    Press enter

    Manually re-open the Code42 app.

Additionally, I show that your archive is currently running maintenance.

    ...[TRUNCATED FOR BREVITY]

Looking at my Docker usage, it was indeed only using 1 GB RAM.

So I popped into the app and applied the memory increase command (even though I thought I'd done it before). I could immediately see its RAM usage slowly start increasing.

But then I remembered that it was actually an additional setting in the Container template. I hit edit on the container and in the CRASHPLAN_SRV_MAX_MEM: field is the value: 4096M

How come the container was only using 1GB RAM? Is this a bug? Or have I entered an unacceptable value in the container settings?

And will the command I issued in the Crashplan command line persist upgrades/restarts of the Container?

Thanks for your help (and the container).

Updated unRAID 6.8.3 -> 6.9.2 and now get a "ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED" when trying to access my unifi 5.14.23 docker webui. The docker log shows no errors messages. So I tried: removing and redownloading the docker, completing deleting the docker image, reverting to 6.8.3, etc. Tried playing with the webui ports in the docker, but it just spits out the same error. The tunnels I have to offsite USGs are still up and according to their webui's, "The UniFi Controller is currently unreachable." TBH, not sure if this is a 6.9.2 issue, or an underlying issue that happened to pop off when I tried the update. Has anyone else run into this or has a suggestion on where/what I can try?

Worth a shot: did you clear your browser cache?

Does the Android/iOS app still work?

p.s. I dont believe in backups that only backup certain parts or exclude certain areas in certain situation but then again something else in other situations and depending on the moon phases etc however well intended. That can create a nightmare of a mess during restores. And if it has to be then please put it in bold large flashing letters on the screen where users set up the actual backup, impossible to miss. False sense of security is way worse than no security.

and p.s. the appdata backup plugin properly backs up all bz* files but now advices in large letters to move to unraid.net plugin , which does not backup bz* files.

So another possible trap to fall in without a proper warning but even a worse warning (although surely also well intended).

Yep: similarly, I moved over to the new plugin upon the advice given by CA Backup, but have no interest in the remote access feature (I have a VPN already configured). As the "restore" feature isn't currently a full restore, I don't think it's the best advice for CA Backup to say that this method is deprecated, when it's actually superior.

Plus with the change in the top banner, I'm uninstalling and moving back to CA Backup for flash backups (recognising that I need to keep a copy off-array, too).

Will come back and check on the progress later (probably once encrypted, full backups exist in the cloud).

Any idea why my Unifi Controller is using so much RAM (4.887GiB)?

I don't know how much it usually uses, but my server almost never goes above 6GB RAM usage but is now currently up at 10GB, so I'm guessing Unifi is the culprit.

    See attached.

EDIT: A restart of the Docker brought usage back down, but I'd love to know if anyone else has had a similar experience.

So, after limiting the Docker RAM allocation to 4GB, I tried to log into my Docker this morning and it threw up a web socket error, then a weird 404 (404 was written in red inside the interface, not an actual 404 from the browser).

Looking at the usage, it was up hard against 4GB RAM.

So I had to restart it.

As per recommendations in this topic, I've now disabled DPI as it was only a mildly useful feature for me, anyhow.

I really don't see how constantly growing RAM usage is acceptable. And given the constant complaints on the forum about v6.x, I've grown to regret forking out the money for the USG to replace my EdgerouterX.

Every single feature that it brought into the Unifi interface has been a worse experience than on the EdgerouterX, and it offers absolutely no benefit (I have a 500Mbps connection, so it's not fast enough to handle threat protection (which I only found out AFTER I bought it) and the in-built speed test can't handle an internet connection of that speed, either).

So yeah, not feelin' the love for Ubiquiti right now. Which sucks, coz the WiFi hardware has been great - fast and reliable (except for the problem with Chromecasts introduced in a fw update and promptly fixed).

But the Controller... just terrible. I hope that, by the time v7 rolls around, Unifi Controller will be a fully fleshed out, reliable, usable product.

  11. I see the update notification, too, but my backups are working fine, so I don't think the update is related to your backups not working.

Did you update your account to use 2FA? They made that a requirement as from March 4, so maybe that's it.

Here's how to set it up: https://support.code42.com/Small_Business/Get_Started/Two-factor_authentication_for_CrashPlan_for_Small_Business

(note that 2FA isn't needed when logging into the UI: only for the dashboard on the web)

And yes: the update is tied to the Docker image, so we'll have to wait for it to be updated by @Djoss

Noticed that my CPUI was getting hammered this evening, and it looks like CrashPlan is the culprit. It's currently backing up my ~26GB CA Backups appdata.tar.gz file (which it reckons will take 3 days...). This isn't the first time that that file is backed up, but I've never noticed such a spike in CPU usage? Any ideas what could be up?

I heard that maybe not enough RAM allocation can spike CPU so I added the env var for 4096M (as well as via the Crashplan command line), but it still seems to be hitting my CPU harder than I've seen before (while also only using 1.5GB RAM).

Any idea why? Is it common for large single-files to cause this and I've just never noticed before, or is something problematic going on?

Thanks for your help and experience.

FYI: I think it was just related to that one large file. CPU utilisation has returned to normal now that it's finished uploading it (and it didn't take 3 days, either). I guess I've just never noticed the CPU usage before in the 4 or so years of using CrashPlan + CA Backups

Thanks Jonathan.  I am back up now.  There has been a lot of discussion on the stability of various versions.  any quick recommendation as to which is the most stable version.  I have some older UAPs which have just become unsupported.  I will want to pick a version and stick with it for a while as I believe that I won't be able to upgrade my controller and continuing using those UAPs.

I use linuxserver/unifi-controller:5.14.23-ls76 and I chose it because it's considered stable by most.

  15. I've never had success in having this plugin detect when drives are up or down, so uninstalled it years ago.

However, remembering that it also allows scheduling, I thought I'd re-install it to have turbo write enabled during the day, then disabled during the night (allowing most of my disks to sleep during Mover operations).

So I installed it two days ago, and set a schedule for it to enable Turbo Write at 8am for 13 hours:

    Cron:

    0 0 8 ? * * *

However, today I noticed that I was writing directly to the array, but none of the other disks were being read (ie Turbo Mode was not enabled).

Does the scheduling only work if I have the "Enable automatic turbo mode" option enabled?

As I've never had the plugin successfully detect when drives are spun up, I don't want to enable this option in case it keeps turning turbo mode on when it shouldn't be turned on, and keeping my disks forever spinning.

In other words: is possible to use the scheduling functionality without using the disk detection functionality?

    Many thanks.

I have the  intel_cpufreq driver, and when I set it to 'On Demand' I get:

    root@Percy:~# grep MHz /proc/cpuinfo
    cpu MHz : 3097.473
    cpu MHz : 3101.104
    cpu MHz : 3094.179
    cpu MHz : 3091.279
    cpu MHz : 3100.118
    cpu MHz : 3093.355
    cpu MHz : 3092.385
    cpu MHz : 3099.522

So I'm guessing it has the effect of just running at full frequency all the time?

However, when I set it to 'Performance' I get:

    root@Percy:~# grep MHz /proc/cpuinfo
    cpu MHz : 1596.710
    cpu MHz : 1596.466
    cpu MHz : 1596.533
    cpu MHz : 1596.398
    cpu MHz : 1596.510
    cpu MHz : 1596.519
    cpu MHz : 1596.589
    cpu MHz : 1596.520

I'm currently re-building a disk while also performing an 'erase and clear' on an old disk, so my CPU isn't close to idle (ocassional 90+% peaks), so I would expect that at least some of the cores would be running at full speed with a profile that scales speed with demand. Is 'Performance' just keeping them at half speed, or is more likely that my demand is not big enough to warrant scaling up to full speed for any significant period of time?

In the mean time I'll keep it on 'On Demand' and keep an eye on temps.

    Update for @dlandon and @jlficken :

I swapped it from 'On Demand to 'Performance' just now, and I now get:

    root@Percy:~# grep MHz /proc/cpuinfo
    cpu MHz : 3097.960
    cpu MHz : 3050.607
    cpu MHz : 3108.310
    cpu MHz : 3117.604
    cpu MHz : 3124.331
    cpu MHz : 3112.003
    cpu MHz : 3113.727
    cpu MHz : 3097.004

So I don't know why I was at half speed under 'Performance' mode previously. So weird.

FWIW, if I set it to 'Power Save' I get the following:

    root@Percy:~# grep MHz /proc/cpuinfo
    cpu MHz : 1596.545
    cpu MHz : 1596.504
    cpu MHz : 1596.528
    cpu MHz : 1596.444
    cpu MHz : 1596.444
    cpu MHz : 1596.515
    cpu MHz : 1596.500
    cpu MHz : 1596.498

    EDIT:

ARRGH! Now I set it back to 'Performance' and I get:

    root@Percy:~# grep MHz /proc/cpuinfo
    cpu MHz : 1596.634
    cpu MHz : 1596.535
    cpu MHz : 1596.515
    cpu MHz : 1596.617
    cpu MHz : 1596.523
    cpu MHz : 1596.548
    cpu MHz : 1596.502
    cpu MHz : 1596.543

    So I don't know what's going on.

Only minor issue here is that it looks like my 12 year old 1GB flash drive is now too full.  Wouldn't upgrade until I cleared some space (after backing up); now Fix Common Problems tells me it's up to 90%.

Sounds trivial, but is there still a recommended hardware for Unraid OS flash drives? Or will anything do?

I use a Sandisk Cruzer Fit 16GB. Been solid for 5ish years now. I like it because it fits in the internal port on my mobo and is short enough not to hit the chassis when I slide the mobo tray out (learnt that lesson the hard way once...).

I think it's recommended to use USB 2.0 drives/ports, but I don't know if that's just superstition or not.

You will probably see the CPU Scaling governor driver says "intel_cpufreq" driver on the right side of Tips and Tweaks.  This appears to be a new driver for some Intel CPUs.  I am working on a change to Tips and Tweaks so this driver will be handled properly.  That's why you are not seeing Turbo Boost as an option.  Right now it only shows as an option for the intel_pstate (Intel Pstate in Tips and Tweaks) driver.

It is recommended that you use 'Performance' for the best power savings and performance.

I don't believe "On Demand" is an option to the intel_cpufreq driver.  Tips and Tweaks is showing it as an option and probably shouldn't.

  19. Just reporting that upgrading from 6.8.3 to 6.9.0 on my HP Microserver gen8 went without a hitch.

I did the "Unassign/Re-assign" method to align my 2x Samsung EVO cache drives to 1MiB, and it went without a hitch, too.

Here's to lowered write amplification, and hopefully a few extra years from my cache disks!

Thanks for all your work, Limetech! I love my Unraid box ❤️

So what do we change to get Sonarr and Radarr to work via Privoxy if it's not the ADDITIONAL_PORTS var?

EDIT: I got Sonarr and Radarr to work again by going to (in Sonarr and Radarr) Settings > Config > General > Proxy and adding my server's IP in "Ignore addresses" ("Bypass proxy for local addresses" was already checked, and I left it so).

Additionally, in SABnzbd, if you have under General > Security a "List of local network ranges" defined, be sure to add the ranges for your Sonarr and Radarr Dockers, as well as your LAN IP range (or just leave it blank). Frustratingly, if you add it as CIDR notation, you will be locked out of the UI, so add it in the following format:

    192.168.1.,172.17.0.

(the second range covers both my Sonarr and Radarr Dockers)

Should I just place it in the Backup directory? Or is it better to place it on the flash drive somewhere?
