  1. I'm running Unraid 6.11.5 and just applied Dynamix System Statistics 2023.02.14 and unfortunately the System Stats is still not working properly on this machine.
  2. @limetech Please see above, replaced my flash drive back on 12/26/22 with a device that is causing multiple errors. I now have a new Kingston flash drive that appears to be working. Since it has been less than 1 year since updating the license key how do I update the key on this new Kingston flash drive? The registered GUID does not match the USB Flash boot device GUID The Registration key file does not correspond to the USB Flash boot device. Please copy the correct key file to the config directory on your USB Flash boot device. If you do not have a backup copy of your key file, Contact Support. 3. I've been using unRAID since late 2008 and have not had any issues with the original flash drive. Unfortunately, I ran out of space on my original 2009 flash drive and tried to replace/upgrade it with a new one over Christmas week 2022. Over the last 5 weeks it has been one problem after another: Multiple kernel: usb 1-1: reset high-speed USB device number 2 using ehci-pci Multiple Directory Bread errors. Multiple errors that state the drive is not read-write Multiple errors stating the drive is disconnecting I have tried running chkdsk on it multiple times and each time it finds some type of corruption, which ends up creating multiple "FOUND.00X" directories and FSCK00XX.REC files. I have also tried reformatting the drive with a full format and starting over from scratch, but to no avail. II upgraded my license key to this drive only a few weeks ago; what is the process to obtain a new license key once I obtain yet another flash drive?
  4. Attempting to get the "Parity Check Tuning" plugin working on my unRAID installation. When I click on the "History" button in the "Parity Check Tuning" plugin page a new dialog window opens but it says "File not found." I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin but still see the same "File not found." message. I'm on unRAID v6.11.5 and the version of the plugin is 2022.12.05.
  5. Here are the diagnostics from the server. tmcinas02-diagnostics-20220802-1147.zip
  6. I have three drives that are not part of my array and am expecting that all three would show up under "Unassigned Devices", but only one of the drives is showing up as "dev 1". Can someone point in the right direction as to what I must be missing? How do I get the other two drives to show up under "Unassigned Devices"? Thanks in advance.
  7. Hi adminmat, I started using unRAID back in 2008 on bare metal and moved it over to ESXi in 2013 and it has been rock solid. My ESXi server is a SuperMicro X9SCM-F with a Xeon E3-1230v2 and 32GB RAM. I have a dedicated LSI 9201-16i that I pass through to unRAID to manage 16 drives just for unRAID, and a separate LSI 9201-16i for drives that ESXi manages for VMs. As for your questions: 1 - Are there performance impacts doing this, if so what? I am using unRAID just to store files; I am not using it for docker or running other VMs in unRAID. I have not noticed any performance issues. 2 - Is there a trick to setting up shares in ESXi for the unRAID disks? I pass through a dedicated LSI 9201-16i to the unRAID VM and manage all unRAID drives on it. 3 - Is it difficult to migrate to a bare metal unRAID instance from unRAID on ESXi? (ya know... after the panic sets in) It was very easy. I pulled the original unRAID drives out of their dedicated server and plugged them into the dedicated LSI-9201-16i for unRAID on the ESXi server and started unRAID on ESXi. 4 - Are there issues with GPU pass-through when unRAID is on ESXi? I just have the GPU on the motherboard and have not run into any issues. I run the system headless. 5 - Are there other pass-through issues? There have been some performance issues in the past with passing through the unRAID USB drive. If I remember correctly it had to do with an upgrade moving to 6.0 and some of the config data didn’t get setup properly. Once fixed I have not had any issues. 6 - Is there a version of Open-VMware-Tools for the latest version of unRAID 6.7.2? I am currently running unRAID 6.7.2 and I have the OpenVMTools plugin installed and it appears to be working properly. 7 - Are the custom Open-VMware-Tools available in the Community Applications? It is available as an unRAID plugin. 8 - Do I just use two separate, physical USB drives for boot? One for ESXi and second passed through to unRAID (PlopKExec)? Yes, that is how my system is setup and I also use PlopKExec for speed and simplicity. I originally started with Plop, but it was rather slow to boot. At some point I moved to the pre-built VMDK unRAID guest drive model that only reads the USB drive for the key; much faster than plop, but it made upgrading unRAID more difficult. After a couple of years of that I migrated to PlopExec, which boots just as fast and makes upgrading unRAID a breeze. 9 - Does running on ESXi make managing IOMMU groups any different than unRAID on bare metal? (this part scares me) I don’t manage unRAID drives in ESXi. I pass through the controller and then manage unRAID drives in unRAID; faster, cleaner and easier. 10 - Is viewing and managing VMs on unRAID as easy as using VM Remote Client (VMRC) and VMware vCenter Server Appliance (vCSA)? I don’t run any VMs on unRIAD; I still use ESXi to run all of my VMs. You could run VMs in unRAID but then you are running through 2 hypervisors, which I would expect to impact performance. 11 - Anything I'm missing? (bonus question😉) If you are still unsure and have not read the ATLAS thread, I suggest that you review it.
  8. I have been using two 9201-16i cards for over five years and have never had a problem with them. I currently run unRaid on top of ESXi and pass the cards through to unRaid. The entire system has always been rock solid; I've never had any issues with it.
  9. fotd, I want to thank you for responding. I was working on my server today and decided to look back through the forums to see if anyone had any idea of how to fix the issue I was running into. This was the exact issue my server was having. I also see that RobJ has a FAQ about the issue and how to fix it. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=48508.msg515980#msg515980
  10. Can you provide a link or brand and model number for the the second USB controller you have working in your system?
  11. I'm not sure what you mean "unassigned devices plugin". Can you provide additional info on how to configure this? Attached is an image of the ESXi settings screen for my VM.
  12. I upgrade from unRAID 5.0.4 to 6.1.7 back in January with no issues what so ever. In fact the system has been rock solid for the last 10 months. The last few weeks I have tried to upgrade to 6.2.1, 6.2.2, and 6.2.3, but the WEB GUI is extremely slow to the point of being unusable. With 6.2.1 or 6.2.3 it typically takes 2 to 3 minutes for one of the unRAID menu pages to refresh (Main, Plugins, Stats, Tools, etc.). I was getting the “usb 1-1: reset” error so I tried adding a second USB to my 6.2.3 configuration as others have tried. It no longer has the “usb 1-1:reset” errors, but the WEB GUI is still extremely slow to the point of being unusable. Current setup: Motherboard - SuperMicro X9SCM-F ESXi version 6.0.0 - build 4510822 unRAID boots off a VMDK drive Guest Operating System setting in ESXi – I have tried both Ubuntu Linux (32-bit) and (64-bit) I am attaching the log file that was collected with 2 USB sticks configured for the VM. It is not showing the “usb 1-1: reset” error, but the system is still unusable. 20161103_-_UnRAID_6.2.3_boot_log_very_slow_w_2_USBs.txt
  13. I upgrade from unRAID 5.0.4 to 6.1.7 on ESXi 6.0.0 back in January with no issues. I am booting via a VMDK and everything has been rock solid and boots very quickly. I have been trying to upgrade to 6.2.0, 6.2.1, and today 6.2.3 but I can’t get any of these versions to run in a usable fashion. They will boot but much slower than 6.1.7 and then the system is soooo slow it is unusable. Once the system boots and I can log into the WEB interface I am looking at the “Main” page. When I select any of the other pages (Settings, Plugins, Stats, Tools, etc.) it will take at least 3 minutes for the page to refresh the browser. Has anyone seen anything like this?
  14. Thank you everyone. I removed all plugins and went back to the original GO script and everything worked this time around. When I have some time I will try adding the plugins one at a time to see if I can figure out which one was causing the problem. Thanks again for helping me get this solved and the array back online.
  15. Hi garycase, To clarify, after I completed the 2 passes of preclear I powered down the server and pulled the old 2TB out of the drive bay and put the new 4TB drive in its place. I then powered up the machine and restarted unRAID. At that point the parity disk entry said "no device", I selected the new 4TB drive and started the array, which also started a parity sync. It appears to me that unRAID generated all of the errors past the boundaries of the 4TB drive. I just tried your second approach of doing a new config but unRAID is still giving me the same warning messages "attempt to access beyond end of device" and the same disk write errors past the end of the device. In the past when I upgraded from 1TB to 1.5TB drives and then from 1.5TB drives to 2TB drives I never saw anything like this. Why is unRAID trying to access beyond the end of the device? Is unRAID not getting the correct drive parameters? Has anyone else run into these type of errors?
  16. I finally bit the bullet and built a new unRAID ESXi system, but I am now having a problem adding a new Hitachi 4.0TB drive. The system configuration is: SuperMicro X9SCM-F Intel Xeon E3-1230v2 2x 8GB ECC DIMMs - 16GB Total RAM LSI 9201-i16 ESXi v5.5 unRAID v5.0.4 5 Seagate 5900RPM 2TB drives - 1 is Parity 2 WD Green 2TB drives I ran 2 cycles of preclear on a new Hitachi HDS724040ALE640 drive and did not see any errors, but it is possible that I am missing something in the output. I then tried to upgrade the Parity drive from 2TB to 4TB and received a number of "attempt to access beyond end of device" messages and then a number of write error messages. I am attaching the preclear output and the syslog. Can someone shed some light on what I may have done wrong or missed or does this drive need to be RMAed? 20131215_-_Hitachi_4.0TB_HDS724040ALE640-PKV331P1GNK6HY_PreClear.zip 20131216_-_unRAID01_System_Log.zip
  17. First off, I have been building all of the kernels I have been testing in VMWare. For the unRAID server I was attempting to compile the rr232x driver directly into the kernel. Today I decided to step back a bit and just see if I could compile a kernel in VMWare without the unRAID software to see if I can get it to at least load the driver into memory. I started with the latest slackware 12.2 kernel, which is 2.6.27.7 and when I tried to load the driver manually with modprobe the VM hung. I then tried the 2.6.25.1 kernel since the rr232x readme file states that it was the latest tested kernel, and again once I executed modprobe to load the driver it hung. I am attaching the readme file for you to look through. So either I am not building the driver and/or the kernel properly or just loading it into memory cannot be tested in VMWare.
  18. If I remove the only drive I have had attached to the 2320, a 1TB WD green drive, it still hangs at the same place. I have also tried an older 500GB drive but it still hangs at the same place. I have the latest BIOS on the motherboard, an ASUS P5AD2-E Premium and the latest firmware/BIOS on the RR 2320 card. I have tried setting up the drive as JBOD and also uninitialized and I get the same behavior. I removed the RR2320 and unRAID still hangs at the same place. I’m now guessing that there is a problem in the way I created the kernel. Any additional ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
  19. I updated the firmware on the 2 Seagate 1.5TB drives and that got rid of the drive warnings that were in the syslog. I also looked back through my notes and various posts on the WEB and recompiled the driver and made a new kernel. Now unRAID will not boot completely. As it is booting it does not now display the line “rr232x: module license 'Proprietary' taints kernel.” It displays the line “rr232x:RocketRAID 232x controller driver v1.9 (Jun 30 2009 22:56:53)” and then it just stops right there. Hopefully, someone else on this forum that builds kernels may have some suggestions since I am currently out of ideas.
  20. Gentlemen, This form has been extremely helpful, especially all of the various posts on compiling a new kernel. After a couple of false starts I have finally been able to build the latest driver for the RocketRAID 2320 and compile it into a new custom kernel for unRAID. Unfortunately, I do not have everything working properly yet and I am asking for some more assistance from the individuals that support this forum. I have been working with unRAID 4.5-beta6 and the latest version 1.9 of the rr232x driver. When I start up unRAID it still works properly but it appears to me that the rr232x driver started to load and then failed for some reason. I hope that someone can point me into the right direction regarding what I should check for next. I am attaching the syslog created by this new kernel. The rr232x driver starts loading at line 419. Just wanted to let everyone know how helpful all of the posts were on compiling a custom kernel, especially the one that WeeboTech wrote with the sample scripts. I did run into a couple of what I believe are simple errors with 2 of the scripts, but they were still extremely helpful. I also have a document containing the order and list of most of the steps, commands, and scripts that I had to execute in order to create this custom kernel. If anyone believes it might be helpful to the group I can clean it up and post it in the future. Thanks again everyone!
