I love how unraid gives me a great jumping point for learning virtualization, dockers, and an easy to expand array. The ability to easily add different sized disks in a painless manor is great. I've learned a ton due to unraid. What I'd really like to see are checkpoint support for VMs. I use unraid for testing things at home and this feature is crucial for doing such tasks.

I'm having a really hard time getting this working. When I open mopidy through a webbrowser @ 192.168.1.2:6800/iris I get a page loading for an extended period of time before I get a 404. So to update on this; I finally got sound working. I created a new VM with nearly identical specifications to my original post. For a GPU I left it on VNC. I once all necessary drivers were installed I powered off the VM, added my GTX 980 as a second display with the BIOS [obtained through the method demonstrated in SpaceInvaderOne's video], and I set the audio device as my GTX 980. I booted up my VM and installed the latest version of my GPU drivers. After another reboot I have sound!! I pointed to the old vhd, windows 10 did some install process that took ~5m and everything is working smoothly. I have yet to disable the second [VNC] display but I don't imagine this being a problem at all. Thanks scorcho99 and SpaceInvaderOne. If anyone comes across this problem [or a similar one], something I've noticed is when people get weird hardware issues like this is the common fix seems to be spin up a new vm and sometimes a fresh config is the simplest solution to getting problems resolved. Once you've got your hardware over then switch over the VHD paths. And purely for future diagnostic purposes; I have attached my working XML file; New Win10VM.txt

ah gotcha. I spun up another Win10 VM last night with no such luck. I'll give it ubuntu a try later today. thanks for the reply!

I have confirmed that the GPU is capable of outputting sound by installing it in another computer [with a completely different components]. Previous to me creating this VM that we are currently talking about, I had another VM created and that was using hdmi video & audio working well but the VM was unintentionally scrapped due to some array issues on unraid. In regards to another VM os, what good would that do? Is that just to create a new config and see what differences their are from my current xml?

Hi, I'm running unraid 6.7.2, QEMU 3.1.0, and libvirt 5.1.0. I have a VM running windows 10 with a Geforce GTX 980 passed through at 4k and running great, except audio. I get no audio output at all but windows still detects an audio output device and acts as if everything is working normally. I have tried the MSI fix with no such luck. I reinstalled nvidia drivers with the clean install option checked. I followed SpaceInvaderOne's youtube tutorial on getting this setup. I am using OVMF and Q35 3.1. I came across this reddit thread that almost explains my problem perfectly; LINK HERE, except different from the OP [in the referenced reddit post], I do have a volume slider. I added the "multifunction='on'" referenced by OP in this reply but my problem persists. Thanks for the reply! A share titled 'Disk6' does not exist under 'User Shares' from the unraid webUI. I dove into the folder structure to get a better idea of what is going on. It's as if the array is being saved one directory lower than it should be. For example I have my drives 1-6 and they are mounted via /mnt/disk* and that looks normal. [When I go to /mnt/user/disk6] It's almost acting like this is a mount point for a seventh drive. If I were to manually list all 7 disks mount point it would be /mnt/disk1-6 and then a 7th disk at /mnt/user/disk6. If this doesn't make sense please let me know and I can try and rephrase it! I'll admit I had to rewrite my response several times due to the complexity of the problem.

I am running Unraid 6.7.0 and under the "fix common problems" plugin I get the following error; So I had 5 disks + 1 cache drive. The cache drive became too small so I attempted to upgrade to a 1tb SSD. I did this incorrectly and accidently added 1tbSSD to the array. To resolve this I tried to follow this guide. I manually moved all the contents from 1tbSSD [known as disk6 in my unraid array] via FTP and now I am getting the error quoted above. Unraid has also created a folder named "disk6" within my array [/mnt/user/disk6] on its own. Before I make things any more difficult for myself, can someone provide me with some direction on how to properly fix this? To sum things up, I want to remove a disk from my array and use this same disk to replace my existing cache drive.

Here is my problem; I'm setting up a Windows 10 VM that was initially created using i440fx but for performance upgrades I created a new VM using Q35-3.0. I pointed the new vm at the old .img file and everything worked great. On further tuning, I saw [in a SpaceinvadersOne YT video] that it's best to leave cpu 0-1 unused as that's typically what docker containers use. The problem I am having is anytime I switch CPU [cores? I could be using the wrong term here] and click 'update' the system hangs on updating and never applies. Similarly, when enabling a Logitech usb receiver on this system and select update the exact same hanging happens. I created a new VM w/ all the proper settings already setup that I was trying to change in previous attempts and just pointed the new vm to the old harddisk image and everything booted up normally. yeah, mines having issues as well. Switching to legacy mode fixed it for the time being.
