It looks like you have a 2nd generation I3
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/processor-numbers.html
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/334359-28-what-difference-intel-generation-generation-core
Edit:
It looks like others here have the same combo working. Maybe the MB is bad after all?

Do you have a 2nd generation I3?
Take a look at this page:
http://www.intel.com/support/processors/corei3/sb/CS-031175.htm#10
At the bottom it states:
"The Previous Generation Intel® Core™ i3 Processors and the 2nd
Generation Intel® Core™ i3 Processors do not support ECC memory, but
the 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i3 Processors support ECC memory.

Thanks for your reply prtrsmgr,
do you reckon that http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371022 would work?
I intend to try it when I get home -- otherwise I'll have to swing by the store and pickup a new PSU to test with
I would try it if you have that one already, otherwise I would get a Seasonic or Corsair

I think it's most likely the power supply, the one in your post is definitely not an EPS12V power supply
Compare the specs on yours to this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139021

Look in the Buy, Sell, Trade section. BigXor has full height brackets for $11.50 + shipping. But he is in the US also

If you don't mind using a 2.5" drive then I have a solution.
I have the same case with iStarUSA 5-in-3 cages and I use this bracket from A-Tech Fabrication:

Should I worry about these values?

You don't need to make an image of the stick you are running from. Just use another stick with the same version installed on it and that will work. Somebody posted images of pretty much every version. I'll see if I can find it.
Really? Cool, thanks!
This is the thread with the pre-built .vmdk files.

I have a single 2gb stick, looking to go to 4gb or 8gb total if anyone has some lying around
Here's what I have. If your MB has 4 slots it may work for you.
Guaranteed working, used in my Dell Vostro 200 until I decided to upgrade to 8GB

I'm having issues installing the vmware tools.
I downloaded open_vm_tools-2012.05.21.724730_unRaid5.0rc8t-i686-3Zeron.plg from the first post and put it in /boot/plugins.
I think this may be the problem, the .plg file should go in /config/plugins
There are two possible ways to install this:
- For unRAID 5.0b11 an later use the put the .plg file /config/plugins on your flash drive. See the beta-11 release announcement for more information: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=14664.0
- For all version of unRAID, put the .tgz file in /extra on you flashdrive - this method is recommend for unRAID before 5.0b11 and any user who uses VMXNET3
- For unRAID 5.0b11 an later use the put the .plg file /config/plugins on your flash drive. See the beta-11 release announcement for more information: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=14664.0

I am in the process of compiling my parts for my new unRAID build. I need two 5 x 3 cages and each seems to have some not insignificant consequences. I then saw someone mention the latest iSTARs are fantastic. I am looking to order these with my build and didnt see any mention of it here. Will probably take me a month before i get everything together but i will report back when i do
These are same 5 x 3 units that Limetech will be using in the new line of server hardware coming soon.

I'm also using a modular PSU (Corsair HX 850). Where can I find the connector going into the PSU?
You can find connectors and custom sleeved cables at http://www.moddiy.com or http://www.frozencpu.com

You could build a mini-itx unraid using this case.

Kind of pricey, but it looks portable enough.

Have you tried myPlex?
I use it on my android phone.
http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/MyPlex
"myPlex is a free service from Plex that lets you watch your media over the internet, share it with friends, or bookmark interesting videos for later viewing. The service makes configuring your network for these functions much simpler than before. Even people with little technical knowledge will be able to use the sophisticated media-sharing features."

bjp999 has put together some links to help new users
http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=9822.0
At the bottom of the post, you will find a step by step unRAID Configuration Guide.
It states it is written for version 4.5.6 and is valid for 4.6 & 4.7 but I think you will still find useful information there.
The UnRAID 5 manual is here http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/UnRAID_Manual_5

Here's a link that states the 9YN166 is made in Thailand and the 1CH166 is made in China and is stuck on firmware CC43.

I love threads like these, gives me something to watch! I second that, thanks for digging this thread up! I probably would never have seen it.
Yes, I agree.
I haven't seen this thread before either.
All great movies, some I've seen and gives me some ideas what to watch.
Here's one of my old favorites:
