  1. Hate to resurrect an old thread, but figured it made sense to vs. starting a new thread... Just looking for opinions on unmenu use in V6? Are you all still using unmenu? are the installation instructions still valid? thanks in advance. al
  2. The only thing i did was setup the application password as i use 2 step auth for gmail. worked like a champ. Make sure your user name is your full gmail address (i.e. [email protected]).
  3. highly recommend the preclear plugin as it is simple. Just like me.
  4. Thanks jonp. I think i will end up buying an ssd and running my VM from that drive (once I build my final server). Appreciate the reply
  5. Hi all- I have built a test Unraid running 6.1.4. For right now, just an old box i had laying around. I currently do not have a cache drive. I have a parity drive and 2 small data drives. I built a Mac VM on one of the data disks and it seems to run fairly well for what i would need it to do. Now, the question... Will that disk ever spin down? Or because there is a VM running on it, will it always spin? Second question... Is it possible to move a VM to a different disk easily, or am i looking at just reinstalling it if and when i add an SSD? Thanks! al
  6. Server has been up since battery replacement, but no storms unfortunately. I may just stop the array and test it the old fashioned way...
  7. Just replaced batteries today in my server. I will let you know if/when we lose power next. Of course, I could always stop the array and pull the power and see what happens.
  8. Popple- How old is the UPS and/or the batteries? Not sure i saw that in the thread. I have been having somewhat similar issues. Quick brownouts that i don't think my UPS is handling all that well (when it used to just fine) which is leading to the server losing power. I have the apc software and the clean shutdown script and all worked perfectly up until maybe 4 months ago. Generally you will get 3-5 years out of the batteries on a decent UPS. My UPS was bought new about 3.5 years ago, so I am replacing the batteries and will see what happens.
  9. Thanks for the replies all. So I've adjusted my budget a bit Looking at: SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SL7-F-O http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182821 Intel Xeon E3-1231V3 Haswell 3.4GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1150 80W BX80646E31231V3 Server Processor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117316 Supermicro Certified MEM-DR380L-SL01-EU16 Samsung Memory - 8GB DDR3-1600 2Rx8 ECC Un-Buffer LP http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA5EM2VC2098 Thinking 2 of these for 16 GB of RAM SUPERMICRO CSE-733TQ-500B Black Pedestal Server Case 500W w/ 80 PLUS Bronze Certified 2 External 5.25" Drive Bays http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811152234 Then maybe a 6 TB parity drive (and maybe another 6 TB data drive, or a couple of 5 TB data drives...not sure. Is this overkill? I am literally just looking for NAS services, along with 1 Windows VM (MAYBE another windows/linux VM). And if it is, anyone have any ideas on how to pare it down a bit? Also, what do you guys think of the case? I have read some mixed reviews on newegg.
  10. Thanks for the reply bjp. I will look at those boards. And I agree on how quickly boards turn over. Its been about 3 years since i built my first unRAID server and its been pretty much on autopilot. The only reason i am thinking of building a new one is that this one when i have to reboot, it doesn't always want to boot, and i also want to take advantage of the virtual machine capabilities of 6 (and i think it would be a good idea to have a second unRAID server to backup my data to).
  11. Hi all. Starting to look at building a new unraid to take advantage of the ability to build vms within it. Here's what I was looking at, but it might be overkill for what i want to do (which is basic NAS along with maybe 1-2 low use VM's (1 for certain Windows VM to just run iTunes)). It also blows the budget out of the water. I was wanting to spend no more than say $500-$600 (not including drives of course). ASUS GRYPHON Z97 LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard Intel Core i7-4790K Devil’s Canyon Quad-Core 4.0GHz CORSAIR Vengeance Pro 32GB (4 x 8GB) Now, I'm sorta stuck on a case. I'd like to use a 5 in 3 raid cage like: iStarUSA BPU-350-Blue 3x5.25 But having problems finding a good case. Also, obviously need power, so looking for some advice on that too. What do you guys think? I miss Raj's prototype page. that was very helpful..
  12. So I'm looking for a motherboard and keep reading about Asrock H77 Pro4-M however it appears its been discontinued? at least newegg is out of stock and has been. Anyone recommend a similar board that they're using with unraid 6? I'm looking to build a new unraid 6 server (basic nas and potentially a windows vm or two (not doing anything crazy, just serving videos to my apple tv). I have a budget of about $600-$700 (minus drives).
  13. I am starting to look into building a new unraid box so this thread comes at a good time. I only need to support maybe a max of 5 drives, but plan on running a couple of VM's and supporting 6 TB of data (including the VM's). Not many apps really other than the APC UPS monitor/shutdown app, so hardware is maybe overkill? Whats all you smart guy's opinions? Does anyone else miss Raj's prototype builds as much as I do? Thanks in advance
  14. I have this working now and actually posted my process in the forums. Here is the link http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=19418.msg178503#msg178503 It works like a champ
