  1. I upgraded from 6.9.2 to 6.11.5 last week. The only things that have changed are I installed the My Servers plugin and uninstalled plugins that are no longer supported. (CA Backup v2 and the Nerd Pack) Then installed CA Backup v3 (Kluth version) Since then I have been getting notifications multiple times a day that Cache 2 is at 183 degrees. ( I have no clue as to why...) Then about 20-30 mins. later it goes back to normal. This is not normal behavior for my server. Very rarely would I ever get a notification the either of my cache drives are hot. Cache 2 has a heat sink and there is a fan that blows across both Cache drive 1 and 2. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi @joelones Just set in the bios of the pfsense to enable wake on lan. When the machine is off it will still power the lan port for wake on lan.

I use @Squid excellent user script plugin to send a wol ping using etherwake command

This script runs on array stop

    etherwake 00:01:3e:4e:5a:b8

I also use another script for when the array starts

This uses ssh to login to the pfsense machine and shut it down this way only one pfsense is running at a time

    ie

    ssh [email protected] /etc/rc.halt

You will need to generate some ssh key pairs on unRAID and copy the public key to the admin user in pfsense.

All of this will be covered in my pfsense videos

@SpaceInvaderOne I didn't see anything from your videos on how to set up the pfsense failover setup you mention in video one. Would you consider making a video to show how to configure it? I would really appreciate it. Thank you for all you do for the UNRAID community.

I recently changed my IP scheme for my entire network. After changing Unraid (6.9.2) from a static IP to DHCP (and creating a DHCP reservation on my router for Unraid) Then adding the new route in UnRaid I rebooted my server and I now see two entries that were not there before and I don't know how to remove them. I tried deleting them by clicking on the trach can icon. I tried disabling the VM and Docker managers but then they disappear and I can't delete them. I tried rebooting the server as well but also that did not help. My only docker containers are configured as "host" and don't use a 172 address. And the other one with the 192 address dose not match anything I was previously using and I'm no longer using 192 addresses on my network. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

  4. Two of my drives are showing as disabled and I'm not sure why or how to fix it. Yesterday, I shutdown the server and installed a NIC. Then after I booted server for some reason my Win 10 VM did not auto start. After I found what needed to be deleted from the the XML view. I was able to start the VM but then got a bunch of warning messages about drives in the array. (I don't remember exactly what it said) Now about four drives were showing as missing and I could not access any of my shares. After I rebooted the server two of the drives came back but two are still disabled. One of the drives is one of two parity drives and the other is disk 1. I have run an extended SMART test on disk 1 and it passed with out error. I have attached the SMART report as well as the Diagnostic report.  Its possibly the two drives just failed. Its just odd that four drives reported having issues at the same time and then after a reboot two of them are no longer missing. This is my first major issue with the array since I built the server and I'm a bit lost. Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks!

  5. That sounds like a good plan. I'll run a extended SMART test on my old drives and only pre clear the new drives. **Unless anyone else advises against it.** I think I'll hold off on using my SAS2LP-MV8 and avoid any unnecessary issues during the initial setup. The MB I'm using has 8 SATA ports. So I should be able to get away with just using eight drives to start. If I find I'm needing more space, I'll consider trying my SAS2LP-MV8 once 6.9 is out of Beta. Thanks for your help!

  6. Ok, so I have three 4TB drives with no data. Two 4TB with data and four 2TB drives with data. If I understand what you are saying, whether I start with one parity drive or two parity drives it makes no difference. Adding all the data drives first, then adding the parity drives last would be fastest method for creating my array and migrating my data? Even though I will be preclearing my drives before they are added to the array, should a drive fail after it gets added to the array there is still a small chance of loosing all my data on the drives that are already in the array? (with no parity drive) Or just the data from the failed drive?

Does my method for migrating my data sound correct? (see previous post)

    Thanks!

  7. Thank you for your response! I hope I can explain it more clearly.

I currently have a Windows 7 server. I'm running "FlexRAID". FlexRaid is no longer supported, so I'm moving to UnRAID. The plan is to "Gut" my Windows server as the MB and CPU are very old. Then rebuild the server using an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 six core CPU and an Asrock X570 Pro4 MB. (both of which I already own) Also I will using a SAS2LP-MV8 SAS controller. (repurposing from current server) I will also be repurposing my nine WD red hard drives. Six of which have data on them and three do not. (all are NTFS) My understanding is UnRAID 6.9 Beta is needed to support the new hardware I plan to use. So I'm planning on using UnRAID 6.9 beta 35. Also from what I understand the minimum number of drives in an UnRAID array is two. One data drive and one parity drive. I plan on building one array in total and eventually using all nine of my drives. I plan on having two parity drives in my one array. My question is, would it be faster to start with two parity drives in my one array? Or add the second parity drive after all the data has been migrated? (since it will likely take several days at least for all the data to be migrated and each drive run through pre clear) Or does it not really matter? Is there anything else I should consider when deciding to start with two parity drives or add the second parity drive after the data is migrated?

"For the data migration I was planning to start by creating the array (same one array as mentioned above) with one data drive (4TB) and one or two parity drives. (4TB) (to be determined by the answer of question in above paragraph) Then slide one of my other drives (NTFS) into the server. Using the "unassigned drives" plugin and the Krusader docker I would then copy the data to the array. Once the copy is complete, I would pre clear the drive. Once pre clear is complete, I would format the drive and add it to the array. Then I would repeat this process until all my drives have been added to the one array. Does this process sound correct? Is there a better way to do it?

    Thanks."

Let me know if that clarifies it for you. Or if you have more questions. Thanks again!

  8. I will be building my first UnRAID server in a couple weeks (migrating from Windows) and I have some questions about how to setup the array. I plan to have two parity drives. I have nine WD Red drives available. ( some 2TB and some 4TB)  Most are 2-3 years old but two are brand new in the package. Assuming they all pass preclear, would it be faster to start with two parity drives? Or add the second parity drive after all the data has been migrated? (since it will likely take several days at least for all the data to be migrated and each drive run through pre clear) Or does it not really matter? Is there anything else I should consider when deciding to start with two parity drives or add the second parity drive after the data is migrated?

  9. I have a SageTV server running on Win 7 x64. But sometime in the near future I'm looking to replace it with a UnRAID server with updated hardware. In particular I'm interested in using an Intel CPU so I can use "Quick Sync" to speed up the video encoding I do with MCE Buddy. (But I'm open to suggestions for AMD if it makes more sense.) I want to use UnRAID for the NAS to store my media files. And also allow me to run a Win7 or Win10 VM to run SageTV, MCE Buddy, Comskip etc. I'm looking for suggestions on what CPU/Motherboard I should buy for two scenarios. My budget for scenario 1 is around $800-$1000.

    1. I upgrade as described above to use UnRAID as the NAS to store media files and a Win7 or Win10 VM to run SageTV and do video encoding with MCE Buddy. I want something that is going to give more power then what I have now but will still be quite and energy efficient.

    2. I upgrade as described above but with the possibility of also creating another Win 10 VM to play racing games in VR. I would want to be able to play games while the Windows VM is running and SageTV is recording up to three shows. (via HDPVRs) (not while MCE Buddy is running) I understand this will require a more powerful CPU and a powerful GPU and it will be a significant additional cost to my scenario 1 budget. I would not use it for gaming very much so I would want the CPU to still be relatively power efficient since it will be running 24/7. My budget for this would be $500-$600 in addition to my scenario 1 budget. Thanx!

Below is a list of the current hardware in my SageTV server:

CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 645 3.10 GHz
    MB: MSI 880GM-E35
    8GB RAM
    12TB (WD Red) (Flex RAID)
    SUPERMICRO AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 PCI-Express 2.0 x8 SATA / SAS 8-Port Controller Card
    PSU:SeasonicSS-650-KVM (650 watt)
    X3 Hauppauge HDPVRs
