Thank you so much

My original cache is heating up more than it should and I am taking this time to replace it before it fails. it is a 250gb SSD and has 4 udma crc errors on it and has had them forever with no apparent issues otherwise. I am replacing it with 2 x 500gb samsung evo860's that I happen to have. I do not use the cache for vm's and I am retty sure the only thing that uses it may be emby. I have been looking for the info in prior posts and have not found the answer to my query. Is there anything special I have to do? mediaserver1-syslog-20200917-2202.zip

Too bad that the planing on this case is so poor, just a few very simple changes would have made this a great case

I literally just reassigned the system to a new network and the assigned it back to the original network

I have a weird one. Some shares show up and are accessible on my network, but others just show up that do not exist and some are missing and even typing in the correct address. This happened when i was moving files from one drive to another and it copied some of the folders to the USER folder of shares. I corrected that quickly by moving the folders to where they were intended but it seems windows now sees them as shares and can longer access the rest of my shares even though emby on the same system sees them without issue. I attaching a log and two pics, I hope that will help. This is on Version: 6.6.6, and yes I know I should up grade.

I just got my server back and fir parity check threw 5 sync errors. When I check the gui I saw the cache was marked as not protected and upon looking at the logs I see a lot of warnings. What should I d o to resolve these issues? mediaserver1-syslog-20190812-1234.zip

Yeah, i always use the qvl and all three sets were on it...Bought a new older board and a cpu for it just in case Right now it's still limping along on 8gb. Thanks for all Ice

I thought I would put my money and skills where my mouth is. I did the mods I mentioned above...I took the original fans off, removed the screw boss/shoulder, drilled hole to match Noctua Fan fastener, Attached foam (Creatology Adhesive Foam Sheet) and installed the 4 NF-A8 fans with the accompanying hardware. Installed a Silverstone pwm fan hub (model: SST-CPF04) to run them all. Pics below (I have a complete series of pics for this, if anyone wants to see them I will post here), doing amazing at keeping the drives in the sweet spot (32-35C). Up and running, all seems well with my unraid install and array However, I seem to have lost a ram slot on my mobo, or lets put it this way, it won't boot (endless fast beeps) with anything but one stick of memory in the board. I am thinking it may just be the board as it was a used replacement and since I have tried three different sets of memory, it also will not let me load a stick into any other slots. Any ideas? btw, the lsi cards are amazing

Has anyone ever tried to modify them a bit further? What I mean is to remove the backplane from the cage, disassemble the backplane and then you have the bare plate. Then drill out the screw mounts and then use the original stretch rubber fan mounts. you can then use very thin foam or rubber to adhesive in between the fan and the mounting plate. Any thoughts on this?

okay it seems it was the board again, so I ordered a new one. When it comes in I am going to go right to the new LSI cards. I had everything label completely and all serials (and HDD info) recorded. I also have tags on everything, so I am hoping all is good when i power back up to confirm array. Your list answers: 1. I have one already as well as a spreadsheet showing where and what drive 2. Always have a backup and will make a copy anyway before I boot 3. N/A in this situation 4. Will do I am taking the opportunity to transfer everything to a 'like new' Lian Li P80N case that will easily house all 4 drive cages and allow for direct mount of the 3 excess drives that are here, I am just waiting for the few upgrades to the case that I ordered. I am getting ready to replace the card and rebuild the system (I have the record of where all the drives go (also they are labeled properly to go into the cages in the same place) The question: Should I get a second card since I am already running 23 drives and get rid of the marvel controllers completely and do these LSI cards run well together? I just ordered a LSI 9201-16i LSI00244 and I am just asking if there is anything specific that I have to do when transferring my drives over to this controller from my marvel controllers?

I am selecting a shield over the HTPC because my htpc will cost 500+ for the upgrade to do 4k the way I want to (Intel 8th gen), and I am so used to using a browser that the shield seems a perfect replacement for it, at a lesser cost. Plus it has does have games even though i do not game anymore (no time) . I also like that I can chose between plex and kodi (kodi prefered) on the client. I would, however, choose an intel nuc if I had the extra money laying around I have tried all, that's why i am begrudgingly selecting plex. I say begrudgingly, because I have a seriously large collection and correct their metadata errors is a real pain as they all are, however it seems to the best as a server with the most stability, I am just hoping it has the performance i need I have also used roku (sold it), WDLive Plus (Still use it, even without 4k), I built my htpc (6 years ago) because all of the devices at that time did not perform anywhere close to what I needed and the addition of a browser made the choice a good one. But now I am looking for alternatives and convenience. I guess my question was more about the comparisons between the plex server other servers that will play well with my unraid (had real trouble the last time I tried to set up plex), such as emby. I am sure this has been hashed and re-hashed many times, but I can't seem to find many opinions on this subject concerning the unraid server and what is the best of the media servers to use with it. I am hoping to gather info on whether I should use plex server (and which version from whom) with kodi as a client on either a pc or a nVidia Shield TV (with supper fast 512gb usb thumb drive integrated). I am weighing the differences because the shield is a cost of about $350 (including drive and stand) and updating my htpc would be costing about $575, on the other hand i am open to something like an xbox, however I do not game I am also hoping this will allow me to stream to my mobile devices and my son to stream from the server at his house. I generally do all of my own tagging and media management. Any input at all, is greatly appreciated Thanks, Ice

Restarted server and now running parity check (auto-started) all apps are now fine, thanks for your help. i am very puzzled as to why, though
