  1. Thank you both guys. I think I'm going to buy one of those, and see what I can achieve. Thanks again. Apreciate it a lot.
  2. Hello Everyone ! I would like to ask a question about backplanes and how could I use one (possibly). // A little Info // I am currently using a Supermicro X9DRi-LN4F+ with 9 Drives. 8 SATA and 1 nVME. All 8 SATA drives are connected using a Dell H200 card with two SAS to 4 SATA cables. (after suggestions from forum members). While the Motherboard still has all its SATA ports available. This works great, and I've had no problems using it this way. I have everything mounted on a 100% DIY box, (enclosure) and the drives are just bolted onto an old 3.5" drive bracket from an old server Tower. // What I'd like to do (and my Questions) // I saw online that backplanes from servers are sold as replacement parts. Since my drives are getting more and more (as need grows), could I possibly use a backplance as such, and connect it to my H200, to mount the drives on that ? For example I found that an F313F backplane (such as this one) is quite cheap, and I was thinking of buying one, and making a custom 3D printed case with HDD Caddies for it. Would something like this work ? The F313F has a "BP" connector that goes to the motherboard apparently. Is that necessary ? Would it be a problem not connecting it ? // Other Possible Solutions // Would you suggest against this ? Or would you suggest something else all together? I also saw about drive "cases" (such as this one) but they tend to be more expensive and require proprietary caddies. I quite like the DIY part of my solution, and difinitely like spending less IF POSSIBLE. I'm not rich by any means. ANY advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read my problem. Have a nice day.
  3. // EDIT // Following the guide posted by alturismo Will post results.
  4. Hello everyone. Hope you're doing great ! I've got a "problem" that I am affraid to try and solve myself and I was wondering if someone could help me out ! The problem: I think I need to update my BIOS, but not only did I get confused by Supermicro's website, but also many articles I read online, said a LOT of things about bricked motherboards, and honestly, I'm too scared to ruin my machine. The process, isn't exactly what I'd call straight-forward. My Motherboard, is the Supermicro X9DRi-LN4F+. Some people update though CLI during boot, some people through IPMI, etc. I'm seriously affraid to ruin a perfectly good machine. Why update in the first place? I currently have a single Cache Disk (a SATA SSD), but for security reasons, I'd like to upgrade to 2 NVMe drives in RAID 1. As far as I know, this is possible, and a good way to be protected. For know, I have to settle for backups of the Appdata folder. That being said, my Motherboard doesn't support NVMe drives since it doesn't have any M.2 slots, so I will have to use PCIe to M.2 adapters. I saw one from ASUS, called "Hyper M.2 X16 Card v2". It supports up to four M.2 drives, but in order for it to work, (as I read here on the forum) my Motherboard needs to suport PCIe bifurcation so it's treated as 4, PCIe x4 instead of a single x16. As this post on reddit suggests, this does actually work on X9DRxxxx motherboards, but with newer versions of the BIOS. Any other possible suggestions ? If someone has some other suggestion, instead of using 2 drives, I'd love to hear it. Or any other suggestion in general. As you must have figured out by now, what I'm looking for, is a fast Cache, but with security in case it fails. Maybe the Single drive + Backup option is good enough. I don't know. Maybe, I could use two different PCIe to M.2 adapters, but I hate to ruin a whole slot, for a single drive. If I have no option though, well.. To Conclude: If ANYONE of you knows what I need, I'd be more than happy to listen to what you have to say/suggest. If you require more info from my side, tell me. Hope I didn't bore you to death. Looking forward to your replies. Thanks. ❤️
  5. Oh yeah. Sounds reasonable. I knew that the license is bound to my drive. It makes sense for the key to be in the Config. Thanks a lot for the help. I appreciate it.
  6. So, what you mean is (in steps): I buy a completely new PRO License. I copy the "config" from my old "Basic" flash, to my new "Pro" Flash. Without changing ANY drives, I use my NEW PRO Flash, on my server, and it will boot up as normal. Then I can use my old "Basic" flash, on my Gaming Server, do a "Reset" on settings and start fresh. Does this sound right ? And I suppose it's not against the rules, right ?
  7. Hello. I hope you guys are doing great ! General Info: I'm in a middle of a dilemma and I'd like your input on the subject. I've been a user of Unraid for a couple of years now. I've upgraded to better hardware, to more drives, to more apps that run on my server etc. Now, it's time to build my second machine. Some Specifics: -> I already have a server running, with 6 drives. It's running a lot of dockers, and some very specific VMs (like Home Assistant). My CURRENT server, is on a "Basic" License. But I will need to add more drives soon, so I will need to upgrade. I will most likely go straight to Pro. -> My newly built server (which I'm currently testing) is on a Trial License for the past 20 days or so, just so I can figure out if it works or not. It's a dedicated Dual VM gaming machine for me and my wife. This will NOT run dockers, will NOT be used as a NAS, and most likely will not have any HDDs either. Just the superfast NVMes I'm utilizing on the VMs. Apparently, it looks like the Dual VM Gaming setup works pretty well. Awesome I would say. So I'm going to buy the license and proceed with making this permanent. Now the Dilemma: Should I just upgrade my old "Basic" to "Pro" and buy a second "Basic" for the new build? Or should I buy just a PRO and swap the two servers around? (what I mean is:) I could start the PRO from scratch, re-add everything (dockers/vms/settings etc) and use my Basic license on my Gaming build, since I won't require more drives there. Or is that too much hassle? Or maybe forbidden by the rules? Would I break something in the process? I really don't know how to proceed, as the Pro License costs LESS, than buying a Basic AND upgrading a Basic to Pro.
  8. Oh I didn't know that. Thanks ! The only thing that made me "want" the Form View, is the fact that I can super easily change how many cores and RAM I have assigned to my machine. [ Quick Talk - Not important ] I've built this box, only with Dual Gaming VMs in mind, for me and my wife, since it didn't make sense buying a whole separate PC for her. When my wife isn't gaming with me (on RUST 90%) she most likely listens to music, browses the web, watches a movie on Emby or Netflix or spends our money on eBay and clothes. So the idea was, once we decide to game, Split the CPU and RAM in half, (or 60-40 ) and play. Once we are done, give her a couple of cores, and about 8-10Gigs of RAM, and give my VM the full power of that beefy CPU. Anyway, many many thanks for your advice guys. I REALLY hope that EAC doesn't figure out we are trying to hide the VM from it and bans us. Good Day everyone. ❤️ Cheers.
  9. So ! [updates] 1: I've added those 3 lines in my XML, and by ONLY adding those 3, my VM "starts" but I get a black screen. It's not a passthrough problem, because I also get a black screen on my Remote Desktop app. I use "Parsec". What's strange though, is that parsec sees the computer as "online" seconds after it boots, as if it's working normally in the background. Strange. 2: Under <features> if I completely remove the following lines (since you said "and i also deleted any lines pertaining to hyper-v"): <hyperv mode='custom'> <relaxed state='on'/> <vapic state='on'/> <spinlocks state='on' retries='8191'/> <vendor_id state='on' value='none'/> </hyperv> the VM boots up and works normally, but I can ONLY save the VM template in "XML View". If I switch to "Form View" and save, I get the error message: 3: If though, I only add the first two you suggested: <smbios mode='host'/> <kvm> <hidden state='on'/> </kvm> remove the <hyperv mode...> part, but keep the <feature policy='disable' name='hypervisor'/> out of the XML as well, then I can switch back to form view, I can save, It boots, and the game works. So my question is, do you actually now by any chance what this last line does ? It disables the "hypervisor" or something ? And if I skip adding it, will something bad happen ? plus, what about the whole part we had to delete ? Why is it there in the first place ? So many questions, so little knowledge I possess.
  10. Gonna Check this out right when I get home ! If this works I'm gonna buy you a beer ! ❤️
  11. Anyone? 😔 Update: Other EAC (EasyAntiCheat) games, work fine. For example Apex Legends.
  12. Hello guys. I hope you're all doing fine ! I have a quick question to make for someone who might have a solution ! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Some info: I followed SpaceInvaderOne's guides (PRICELESS), and advice from other users, and posts in this forum, and I've put together my second UnRaid build with the intent to use it as a daily with Dual gaming VMs for me and my wife. Things are working GREAT. I've setup everything, and both VMs are running flawlessly with GPU Passthroughs. I even tried several games, and they seem to be working flawlessly as well. The Problem: I tried to launch a game called "RUST" today, (which by the way is the game me and my wife mostly play together), and when the anti-cheat software was "loading" I got the error message: "Cannot run under Virtual Machine". Which does make sense at first, but what drives me crazy, is that the game was launching perfectly fine up until yesterday, and I didn't notice any update to be honest. My Question: Does anyone know if we can somehow trick the software, into thinking it's running on a normal machine ? PS. Or is there possibly something wrong with MY VM ? Although I changed nothing since yesterday when it was working. I've also attached a photo with the error message.
  13. Hi Guys ! I'm having a problem with OpenVPN. I've only recently installed this, so I'm new here It was running fine for a couple of days. But today I tried to start it, and I get this error message in the log: "./run: line 3: /usr/local/openvpn_as/scripts/openvpnas: Permission denied" It hangs there, and just repeats the message indefinitely. Is it a permission issue ? I don't know what to do. I've read that someone had the same issue, here on this exact post, on Page 15. I could try to remove the container and re-install fresh, but last time I did something without asking first, people here told me I should ask before trying stuff myself. So, any suggestions ? 14. oh, I did not know that at all. honestly, I find S.M.A.R.T. data to be a bit complicated. Especially since they are not the same between manufactures, or even models sometimes, and on top of that, even between readings, they are not sharing the same structure. I've read here on the forum that some numbers are 0 to 100 and some others 0 to 200 etc... Anyway, thanks a lot !!! I appreciate the time you took to help me. Have a nice day.
  15. That was my thoughts too. Maybe the PSU can't handle that much wattage on a single lead. I will do some more testing and see what happens. What about the drive's "Seek_Error_Rate" ? Does it indicate an actual problem with the drive ? I mean, its brand new, and I can get a replacement if that seems like an issue.
  16. I swapped the connections of the two drives and what do you know, I got errors on Disk 4 when I did that. Then I swapped the power connectors for all drives, and now its running since yesterday with no problems. I was using a Molex to 4 SATA, to power the drives since it's tidy using only one cable. Is there a problem with those cables ? Maybe I should buy a new PSU.

  18. I need some more help if someone sees this ! ❤️ So, I formatted the drive that had the issue, and it worked fine for a couple of days. But today, suddenly I get a lot of "Read Error" notifications for that drive. Then, if I leave it like this, the drive looks like its mounted, but I can't read the SMART report, and I can't see the temp on the table of my drives. If I restart my Array, the drive works fine, until later when it shows me a Read Error again. - My drive is brand new. (Seagate Barracuda 6TB ST6000DM003). - I haven't tried ANYTHING yet as you instructed me from the last posts. - Here is the SMART data from that drive. 19. Yeah I knew I'd lose the data, but it was data I didn't care about. I can obtain them again. However, I've read everything I could find on the problem, and that's the way found the xfs_repair solution. But sadly it did not work for me. If this happens again, I guess I will have to ask before I format and provide you with logs.
  20. I should have asked questions when the issue was still there I guess.
  21. *************************************** EDIT: Please save some time and read my latest comment instead of the whole post: * New Problem with my Drive * I've got a new problem *************************************** Hello everyone ! I hope you are all doing well ! This is my first ever post, seeking some advice in this forum. Part 1 / A little info on me and my setup: (Time-Saver: skip to Part 2 of this post for the actual problem and my question) I found out about unRaid a couple of years ago from Linus' channel and it was kind of exactly what I needed. I bought it back then, but didn't use it, up until maybe last month or so, since I didn't really have the time to set it up. I've only recently found out about Dockers and what they are, and long-story-short, I'm in love. I've setup Radarr, Sonarr, nzbGet, Emby and some other companion utilities I need. This hasn't been an easy journey for me, as I have never used Linux or Unix or Command Lines before, or even other NAS. Novice user at BEST. That being said, this forum, and a couple of other sources online proved to be EXTREMELY helpful, and honestly, you guys solved a LOT of problems, or should I say obstacles, for me. So thank you for being there. So I've set up everything the way I think suits me best and everything was working fine. Up until Yesterday, when I had a strange problem. (Forgive me in advance (and correct me) if I make any mistakes as I am barely a Novice in this field as I said.) Part 2 / The problem: My UnRaid server was working fine, yesterday, when a friend came by and I really wanted to show him what this setup is capable of. One of the things I wanted to show him, is how you can add drives after you create your initial pool of several drives. So: - I stopped my array. - I showed him the drop down lists with the drive selections. - I restarted the array to continue normal operation. 1 of my disks was suddenly "Unmountable" and I got the option to format it as I could do when I first added the drive several days ago. (brand-new drive) I immediately came here, searched and read several other posts of people having the same problem, I tried most solutions, up to the last option of "xfs_repair -L". Nothing solved the issue. My drive kept being "unmountable". I finally format the drive and its back and running online. I've obviously lost all content on that drive, but since the drive was like 1-week old, I really didn't care that much as it only had some movies I downloaded this week, which are already being auto-downloaded again by Radarr. My Question is this though: Is there something I need to do differently to AVOID this ? I stopped my Array without stopping any docker services running. Is that wrong ? Is there any specific setting I need to look at ? Everything I've setup, is after suggestions and guides of users in this forum or videos of YouTubers like "SpaceInvader One". I didn't configure anything myself. Thank you in advance, and sorry for the long post. But I'm REALLY excited about this, and I don't want to screw anything up. Looking forward to your replies. ❤️
