icemounty
I'm there with you. My usb flash drive is empty. I also have my registration key. My question is do I create a new usb bootable startup drive and then copy it to my config file and then reboot my server. I have no idea which of my drives are my parity drives and which are storage, and what order they were installed in. Quote Link to comment

Don't you? Do you have a backup of flash? Quote Link to comment
icemounty
I did not have a backup of my usb boot. I assume I copy the registration key that I have stored to my new bootup drive's config folder Edited March 20, 2021 by icemounty spelling Quote Link to comment

trurl
@icemounty I have split your posts into their own thread. Please don't hijack. Your license key only works with the flash drive it was registered with. If you can't use that flash drive, copy the key anyway and then you can transfer the license to the new flash. Do you know what your disk assignments were? Quote Link to comment
icemounty
I no not know my disk assignments, I created a boot/flash drive and then copied my reg key to config file Quote Link to comment
trurl
How many parity disks did you have? Quote Link to comment
icemounty
I had 1 parity drive, 1 cache/ssd drive and the other 7 drives were data Quote Link to comment
icemounty
2 drives are 10 TB's, so one of those is my parity drive I have 5 drives that are 8TB's 1 drive is 4 TB 1 SSD, 500 MB, that was my cache Quote Link to comment
trurl
Found these diagnostics but they are a bit old now: This is how the disks were assigned back then: Sep 10 10:19:40 Tower kernel: md: import disk0: (sdd) WDC_WD80EMAZ-00WJTA0_7SH1NY4C size: 7814026532 Sep 10 10:19:40 Tower kernel: md: import disk1: (sdg) WDC_WD80EMAZ-00WJTA0_1SG5JX2Z size: 7814026532 Sep 10 10:19:40 Tower kernel: md: import disk2: (sdh) WDC_WD80EMAZ-00WJTA0_1SG4G6BZ size: 7814026532 Sep 10 10:19:40 Tower kernel: md: import disk3: (sde) WDC_WD80EFAX-68LHPN0_7SGNLTMC size: 7814026532 Sep 10 10:19:40 Tower kernel: md: import disk4: (sdf) WDC_WD40EFRX-68N32N0_WD-WCC7K7SCEP1T size: 3907018532 Sep 10 10:19:40 Tower kernel: md: import disk5: (sdb) WDC_WD80EZAZ-11TDBA0_7SHTPE1W size: 7814026532 Sep 10 10:19:40 Tower emhttpd: import 30 cache device: (sdc) Samsung_SSD_850_EVO_500GB_S3PTNF0JA03873W Unfortunately, none of those were 10TB, and it looks like that 8TB disk0 (parity) was reused as data based on your latest diagnostics. Since you don't know which disk is parity, assign all HDD to data slots and none to parity slots and start the array. Hopefully, only one disk will be unmountable, and if so, that is the parity disk. After starting the array post new diagnostics. Quote Link to comment
icemounty
Disk 2 is unmountable, and its a 10 TB drive tower-diagnostics-20210320-1845.zip Quote Link to comment

trurl
That looks good. Go to Tools - New Config and reassign disks however you want but with that disk (serial 2YJAMEPD) assigned as parity. Should be OK to assign cache also. Quote Link to comment
icemounty
Do I preserve current assisgnments bwfore assigning my parity drive? When do I set disk (serial 2YJAMEPD as my parity drive? Quote Link to comment
trurl
Whatever you preserve will be just a starting point for you to begin changing assignments as needed. Preserve all will be fine, Apply the New Config, and it will take you to the Main page without the array started. Then you make any changes you want before starting the array. When you start the array, it will record those new disk assignments and will build parity on the disk assigned to the parity slot. Quote Link to comment

icemounty
Cant remember how to assign my ssd card as a cache, any help? Quote Link to comment
trurl
I haven't needed to do that on 6.9 but I think you just need to add a pool and name it cache (if that's what you want to name it). Post a screenshot of Main. Quote Link to comment
icemounty
Getting ready to restart my array, is this OK Parity disk(s) content will be overwritten Quote Link to comment

Parity is probably mostly valid so you could check the box. You should do a correcting parity check after though. Or don't check the box, rebuilding parity completely might be slightly faster than a correcting check. Quote Link to comment

JorgeB
If you have any forwarded ports from your router to the server make sure you close them all, a number of users have been similarly hacked lately. Quote Link to comment
