unRAID Web Management page stops responding

You have a motherboard with Atheros chipset. These do not work well under Unraid 4.7 and I am not sure if the new kernel in 5.betaX has any improvements in this regard.

Disable the onboard LAN and use one add-on Intel (cheap boards from Ebay for $10 or so shipped) or Realtek based NIC.

If you buy one online make sure to be able to look at the label of the big chip - do not buy another Atheros or Marvell card.

This will cure you network problems.

And it will be nice if everybody stays in their own thread as this will be easier to check and mark [sOLVED] once you have resolved your issue.

Hi bcbgboy13

Sorry to disappoint you but I disabled and replaced the onboard NIC with a TP-Link Realtek card. Maybe absolutely no difference. Problem still exists.

I believe this issue may have something to do with the cache drive and moving the files off of it.  I had copied a lot of data over to the server overnight.  The next morning it still had not moved everything from the cache and I tried to shut it down.  Of course it started moving the data off of the cache before shutting down and was taking quite a long time, so I let it be.  After about 30 minutes I came back and refreshed the screen and could not get a response on the web page any more.  I eventually did a /sbin/powerdown.  However, it must not have shut down cleanly because I just brought it back up and it is doing a parity check.  My server is quite the noisy energy user so I do not keep it up all the time.

Just lost the page again. I tried the following that was suggested.

CD /usr

cd /sbin

exec inetd

To restart the webserver use these commands

killall emhttp

nohup /usr/local/sbin/emhttp &

Did not help.  I finally stopped the array through unmenu :8080 port(after the parity check finished), then the menu came back.

I've had this issue occasionally as mentioned above, but I always end up rebooting and never catch the syslog.  This time I had other issues to distract me and waited more than my usual 10 seconds.  I attempted to reach tower:8080 and was successful.

I found this in the syslog:

Apr 18 19:54:10 Tower unmenu[1455]: awk: ./unmenu.awk:470: fatal: print to "/inet/tcp/8080/0/0" failed (Connection timed out) (Minor Issues)

Apr 18 19:54:10 Tower unmenu-status: Exiting unmenu web-server, exit status code = 2

Apr 18 19:54:10 Tower unmenu[1455]: unmenu.awk unable to open port. It may already be running

Apr 18 19:54:20 Tower unmenu-status: Starting unmenu web-server

Hope I am not waking a too old thread. My problem is exactly same so I was not sure if I should have opened a new thread .........as I said I am in the same boat. Suddenly today I am not able to access the main Unraid GUI. I can do everything else. open 8080 page. Telnet, access all shares and access all files on shares as well. Just can not open the main Unraid page.

Also tried all solution provided here ...

executed the bolow command ..

killall emhttp

nohup /usr/local/sbin/emhttp &

bit it gives me some "segmentation fault" ...

Please help!!!

attached is the log file for last 5 days. Also since I presume its something related t memory. I ran a mem test and it does seem Unraid is taling awfull lot of memory ....screenshot attached ...

Kindly Help!

Second, you cannot just kill emhttp and re-start it.  It was not designed for that, it will just segfault as you discovered.  You apparently have a network issue, not an unRAID issue.  you would have had no issue from the system console.    You'll need to stop the array and reboot to regain the web-management page.

Third, check the PM I sent you.

Thanks Joe, My network connection did not drop, it never drops, never dropped in my use of last 5 years.  I manually restarted my router, thinking that it might solve the issue.

I dont want to restart my Unraid, as yet, this would be my very last resort. I was hoping to have a solution, without the need to restart it completely. specially now that I have seen its a known issue and lots have been facing the same .....

Any suggestions to try ...

I have lost the unraid webpages, they do not load anymore

Start a telnet session and type in the following commands:

killall emhttp

nohup /usr/local/sbin/emhttp &

yes I tried that ..... this is what I get ....

root@SamTower:~# killall emhttp

emhttp: no process killed

root@SamTower:~# nohup /usr/local/sbin/emhttp &

[1] 18356

root@SamTower:~# nohup: ignoring input and appending output to `nohup.out'

[1]+  Segmentation fault      nohup /usr/local/sbin/emhttp

root@SamTower:~#

This is turning to be a nightmare, I remoed the plugins and all and it did not help ....... finally stopped the array from 8080, to do a reboot from telnet, and to my horror, I lost everything after that. No telnet, no 8080 nothing ...... grrrrr ... there was no way to do a clean reboot.......finally had to push the power button and restart ......... horrors not ending, though i got the main GUI back, my flash drive contents are not showing ... it shows zero, no files exists ...... How am I suppose to put back all my plugins ....

My web server gui says ...

Warning: parse_ini_file(/boot/config/plugins/sf_webserver/webserver.cfg): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/sf_webserver/webserver.php on line 2

My syslog keeps saying FAT: Directory Bread (Block *****) failed

Well, since it was something to do with FAT I assumed my USB stick is the one that might have gone bad. I stopped the server again and re plugged the USB stick, and now it seems things are back.... But all my plugins and apps have stopped working ...... Himachi,  Squeezebox server all have stopped, that is the reason I did not want to restart .......

Now I have to re configure everything again ...... and the initial problem of GUI going out just like that is still unattended. Is rebooting the only solution ..... NAS are not suppose to be rebooted that frequently ...... whats the point then.

Neither are NAS supposed to run all kinds of add-ons without the installer monitoring memory usage.

You probably ran out of memory, then the kernel out-of-memory process killer will terminate processes it thinks are idle the longest.  emhttp is one of them.

Also, Tom @ lime-tech has said recently that you cannot re-start emhttp in the way you attempted. It will segfault, as you discovered.  Now, I personally think that is a bug,  but not one normally expected.

Please continue your resolution of getting everything re-established in the customizations thread.  Many plug-ins have major issues with array start-up and shut-down, as their authors expected you to stop them prior to stopping the array.  (The plug-in system frequently also prevents the system from starting properly. disable all plug-ins before asking for  support in the general support forum)

ok fair enough, then please also tell me, how or from where to disable all the plugins ..... and since this seems to be a memory issue, would increasing it to say 4 or maybe 8GB solve the issue ... I really dont want to restart my Unraid so often ...... Hope you understand.

finally any suggestion for Memory Monitoring tool or plugin .....

Thanks and about the memory problem ........ I noticed that the problem started since I installed the uTorrent plugin ..... it ate, 1.7GB of my two GB memory, not sure if that is the issue and if increasing the memory would solve it.  Anyhow I have removed the uTorrent plugin and also have increased my memory to 4 GB .... Will try some other Torrent client  ........

May be the answer.

I often lost my web interface for month. On reboot it worked again. I read a lot of post on forums but no solutions works the me.

Until this week, I saw in my logs this kinds of thing :

  Mar 23 21:47:20 Tower in.telnetd[4235]: connect from 78.189.110.245 (78.189.110.245)

Mar 23 21:47:21 Tower telnetd[4235]: ttloop: peer died: EOF

  Mar 23 21:48:01 Tower in.telnetd[4236]: connect from 78.176.227.186 (78.176.227.186)

Mar 23 21:48:03 Tower telnetd[4236]: ttloop: peer died: EOF

.... many times.

I remembered I had opened port 23 for telnet from the outside.

I closed this port and from this time I have no more problems with my web interface
