YOUANDAI
Hello everyone, my xfs - encrypted array has been running for quite a while and unfortunately I think I do not have the encryption passphrase stored anymore. What would be the best way to either change the passphrase or remove the passphrase in this state? Quote Link to comment
JonathanM
Copy the data to an unencrypted destination. Quote Link to comment
YOUANDAI
Thanks JonathanM - I don't have that possibility right now due to its size. Isn't there away to change the passphrase, or remove it/decrypt in this state? Quote Link to comment

As an aside, encrypting your disks makes ANY sort of file system recovery very hard or almost impossible, so having backups of anything important is especially crucial when you use encryption. I would figure out a way to get things backed up ASAP. 1 Quote Link to comment
Squid
You can look at this https://forums.unraid.net/topic/85495-unraid-newenckey-change-your-drive-encryption-unlock-key/, but without the current key it won't work. How the system works is pretty much how you would have wanted it since you made the choice to encrypt. 1 1 Quote Link to comment
JonathanM
At the very core of it, encryption means no passphrase = no data. If there are easy ways to circumvent that, then the encryption isn't useful. I get that it's currently unlocked, so you aren't hosed yet, but if you don't get the data backed up, it's only a matter of time until the situation is beyond help. Whatever you do, don't allow the array to stop. 1 Quote Link to comment
