dehein2
Hi all, i have a single drive array with just one share on it. I would like to change the drive to have a larger one instead. It's ok if i loose the current data on the drive (just old cctv footage). Can i just remove the old disk from the system. install the new one. boot. Assign the new one to the existing array? - Will it "miss" the old disk? - Is there share automatically using the new disk? Thanks Dennis Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
You need to do a new config (tools -> new config) to be able to assign a different device. Quote Link to comment
Frank1940
I am a bit confused by your query. You have a single hard drive in the server box-- correct? And you want to remove that drive to install a larger one? WHY? I would assume that you have room to install a second hard drive in addition to the one that is currently installed. You could add that second drive to array and you would then have additional storage space available and all of the files that are on the first drive. You would lose nothing! Quote Link to comment
dehein2
the server has multiple arrays, so there are more disks and no slots left ;( - just the array i would like to upgrade has a single disk i want to swap 1 Quote Link to comment

Solution JorgeB Posted January 21, 2022 Solution Share Posted January 21, 2022 You can just power off, replace devices, when you power back on that pool will be empty, assign new device, start array, format new device. Quote Link to comment

dehein2
maybe one more unrelated question that just came to my mind: - the other pools above (data and cachepool) each have 2 drives with 2TB (8TB) each. The pools have 2tb each - my understanding was that the second drive is a mirror - is that correct? Quote Link to comment
