Airvideo unMenu package

hi all, can't wait to install this.  i have been a long time user of air video with my main pc and various hard drives, but recently i've migrated all my media to an unraid server that i plan to leave on 24/7!

my question is- i have unraid shares configured so that i have all my movies in a single large share called media.... this is the folder i'd like to see when i start air video on my ipad.  i'm a bit confused at the unmenu configuration instructions, because it seems like i have to enter disks, not shares?

this will be a bit of a pain because my media is currently spread across 14 disks!  plus i don't really know which movie is in which disk, etc because of the share i have setup, i don't really need to know!  can someone clarify whether i can just add my share to air video?

You can enter user shares you just have to specify them correctly (i.e. /mnt/user/movies).

And an update:  I have been very busy the last couple weekends so have not had a lot of time to test this new install and how it works on 4.7 and the latest 5.0b release.  I am taking a week off for vacation after Easter so should be able to test everything and get something out after Easter. Sorry for the delay everyone.

Thanks!  i'm a bit confused regarding best way to install... i see there are packages that can be installed from unmenu (which i'd prefer to do) but then this thread (at the least the start) seems to reference a more manual way of installing ie download packages, copy over, run etc.

can anyone steer a newb in the right direction?

Jup, use unmenu, works like a charm... !  You need to install several packages before the actual airvideo package, th ec compiler for one.. Install that and start airvideo package install, it will tell you what packages need to be installed more..

wow, easy peasy thanks for the tips!  installed and up and running!

one minor minor thing- i wonder if there's a way to save the server password so it doesn't have to be entered everytime?  any thoughts?

If you just remove the password (package manager - select package - remove password - reinstall - enable install on reboot) then it will not ask for it anymore... Unless you have your server open to the internet (which is a thing not be done lightly) it does not serve much use imho).

take your time and let us know....

I am not an apple fan and would have never even thought to use this but the wife just bought an ipad 3 so i guess i need to look at this lol

although i dont know how much my low power sempron 140 will transcode  ;D

Yeh just got the iPad myself and looking to set this up, will wait for the update to this package.

Couple of questions.

1. In the package manager do I just need to click on the "DownloadAirVideoServerLinux.jar" button or do I need to download and place those files listed in the package links and save them somewhere?

2. What app on the iPad can connect to the AirVideo server to play the media?

Thanks

im in the same position :)

i got a sempron 140 too

how is it running, is it able to do the job?

i might have a problem with configurable variables

when using airplay; i only see animo and movies

and not my  normal folders

how do i set up folder?

If installed thru unmenu, click the airvideo package in package manager, scroll down and edit the fields, then reinstall and check reinstall on reboot.

Howly

It works!!!!

I must say, im very much impressed!

I used other things for playing movies in 720p or mkv , they all stutterd

Now using airplay with unraid (sempron 140), 720p movies, 1080 mkvs, and even full bluray, they all play without stuttering!

VEERY impressed!

thx guys for your work

I do have another question

i need to check reinstall on reboot right, but should i do this for the c-compiler and jre java thing too?

Another tip, you can try the free app airplay... see if its your thing, when it works you can buy the full version

Yes, you will need to check that for every package.

Hi,

Unfortunately my airvideo setup  is no longer functioning. I get a connection error whenever I try to access it. I -think- it is actually not running, hereunder the output of the "processes" command:

I have however tried to reinstall (thru unmenu) and the reinstall works and does not give errors, airvideo is afterwards stil l not reachable.

Enclosed also the syslog, I can find no references of Airvideo which I think is strange, I should at least see some errors if it is indeed not running ?

Restarting my system has no effect.

I think there might be a conflict with some of the other stuff I am using (see below).

The segfaults you see in the syslog are a result of the transmission install that I installed as plugin thru a tgz file. The version I had running before (thru unmenu) was running without errors but I like the nice link in the simplefeatures menu's ;-)

I think you have 2 version of transmisson running might want to look into that first.

Thanks for that ~! Djeez... I should have noticed that myself, could very well have some weird results!  I'll have to hold off on rebooting and checking because I have a preclear cycle running but I have high hopes !

  • 2 weeks later...

I fixed that, did not solve the airvideo issue though... I actually have now removed wait in anticipation of a plugin version, nicel integrated.

In the meantime I am now using another product from my apple devices: Oplayer

It actually does what airvideo does but without the server-side, you can simply browse your shares, pick the video of your choosing and it will then -streaming- play it.. Works like a charm but when files are to large (HD) my Ipad 1 cannot cope and audio gets out of sync so it is not a permanent solution for me.

Has taken the pressure of it though ( I need my video on my nightstand ;-)

Recommended RAM and AMD chipset for a balance of wattage and cost? Sempron 145, Athlon x2, A4?

Well, I've spent a rediculous amount of time on this now so I figure it's time I post on my issue.

Essentially, this works fine on my Iphone 4 but I get constant buffering on my Ipad. I realize the package itself is out of date, but my issues don't seem to be widespread so I'm at a loss for what is causing the buffering. It's not a network issue as I have a separate Air Video server running on a windows machine and I have no problems streaming from that.

I don't suppose anyone would be willing to share their compiled ffmpeg folder with me so I can test it against mine? I get a TON of warnings and version errors when compiling ffmpeg, so I feel like that could be a cause of the problem. I have redownloaded/recompiled a good 6 or 7 times now using both the packages on the first page and the packages on the 8th page of this thread, and I'm not making any progress.

Oddly, the first time I used the packages on the 8th page, the buffering was fixed. But when I rebooted the server, the buffering came back and I have not been able to get rid of it. I would love to get an updated package to see if that helps as well...

sweigh,

Had the same problem also.  For me it was a two part fix.

Firstly I updated some of the packages from the original Unmenu installation and also included a few addtional ones.

Secondly I modified the ffmpeg compile to include the detect cpu capabilities at runtime flag.  This may or may not be required.

At the time I was testing on an AMD CPU but my main UnRAID system is Intel.  During my attempts to fix the buffering, I ran AirVideo in a foreground process and noticed the logs indicated different CPU properties.  I figured it couldn't hurt to have ffmpeg compile so that it can use whatever CPU capabilities it detects.  Once I'd fixed the problem on the test system, I did a straight copy over of the compiled ffmpeg/airvideo dir and I didn't recompile on the Intel system.

If it helps, here's a link to all the files I use for my working AirVideo setup.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/tp4w9w1a1x5m5g8/VlCx-eGLvm

To explain my setup a little... I have AirVideo (and other services) installed to a cache drive, mainly because I try to minimise the level of re-install upon a reboot.

I have a simple script which I call from my go file to load the packages, create a stop/start rc script and a symlink back to /root.  The reason for the symlink is that the deamon runs as root and expects to find ".air-video-server" under /root, whereas mine sits on the cache.  The files inside this folder seem to be a cached thumbnails db.  I experimented runing as user "nobody" to remove this dependency, but didn't try too hard and in the end decided to let it run as root with a symlink hack.

Included in the link is a tar file of my working airvideo folder, with the compiled ffmpeg sub-folder.

Hope some of the above helps!

Is it possible to make a pluging of this package?

Is it possible to make a pluging of this package?

Probably... but I am way to busy to spend time on it right now.

I have an updated unMenu package but need to do some testing.

ok :) no problem

FYI, I've completed the framework for a working plugin.

I still have a fair bit of internal testing to do and at the moment offline conversion doesn't seem to be working.  However, the plugin seems to run ok on a test system (v5.0-b12a), starts and stops cleanly from webgui and streams 720p/1080p to my iPad.

Work permitting, I'll try get something out in the next few days.

Yes, you will need to check that for every package.

Usually you do not need to re-install the C compiler.

It is usually only needed when initially compiling a program/application  from source.

The Java-Run-Time will need to be re-installed on reboot.

Joe L.

Thanks for the feedback overbyrn. There seems to be some lingering issues with my system as I haven't even been able to connect to air video using your files. Seems to be an issue with Java I think.

I'm not going to worry too much about it at the moment as I am thinking about switching the server to a Hyper-V host and running Unraid independently of other services.

That would be great !!!

Hello.

I just installed the airvideo app in my new iPad (free version) and I also installed the airvideoserverlinux.jar via unmenu, along with the jre-6u11-i586-1.tgz and the gcc-4.2.4-i486-1.tgz packages in my unRaid 4.7.

I then followed the instructions in the first post and I replaced the 2 .conf files in \\TOWER\flash\packages folder and re-installed the airvideoserverlinux.jar

Unfortunately I cannot see the server in iPad.

I noticed that every time I start/stop the airvideo in user scripts I get the following error in main page:

Tower kernel: atd[31340]: segfault at 0 ip (null) sp bfc9e668 error 14 in atd[8048000+4000]

Can you please help?
