Array disk START button greyed out

Featured Replies

Hello,

Starting first time and added an array disk and it recognizes it as a Seagate tried and shows assigned. However the start button is greyed out and says offline in green. The file system is set to xfs and is not encrypted.

Any ideas on why it says offline?

You cannot start the array with only parity assigned, if you are going to use a single device for now assign it as disk1.

Thanks so much, Start button now appears, so later when I add more hard disks, I can parity them right? for now I can start experimenting with just disk1 then,.

Cheers

Correct, you can add parity and/or more data disks at any time.

You are a legend. Thanks

Just keep in mind each time you add a disk it has to re-built parity for the entire array. Which is completely normal. ;)

Not sure what you mean by this?   If you add a disk to a parity protected array (that is not already pre-cleared) then Unraid will Clear it by writing zeroes to every sector specifically so that parity is not affected.

One more question.

So at a later stage can I stick the Flash drive in another computer and as long as the drives are parity etc on the network, will this be ok or it has to be on the same computer that Unraid is run on?

Everything has to be on the computer it's being run from.
