UnRaid build nearly complete BUT...[SOLVED]

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have pretty much finished installing everything on my first NAS build and am very impressed with sick sab couch. However I have one last little niggle. I downloaded a couple of movies using couch it downloaded ok and moved the file to it's correct location and so I boot up my xbmc machine ( windows7) start xbmc and it fails to scan the new files even though the nfo files and jpg are there. I initially has the hidden share issue so I fixed that with permissions and stripping any windows hidden flags etc. But it still won't scan the new files. I'm stumped I don't know what to try next iv changed permissions deleted nfo file but nothing works. Any one got any ideas?

Please help a newb nearly at the finishing line. :)

Just thought id add to this and let people know my unraid is now fully complete and all working ok :)

ill give my feedback later.

XBMC defaults to making you scan for new content manually.  In your source settings, you can tell it to scan automatically each time XBMC boots.  I personally have had some trouble with that setting, so I've reverted to the manual scans.  They aren't too much of a pain...

Well the strange thing is it did scan before these movies were downloaded and I have also tried manual scan aswell. I think I might go for a uninstall and install the latest stable build of xbmc. The strange thing is it picks up the tvshows perfectly fine even new ones iv downloaded

well at the minute its actually pointing to the shares i think but will have to double check when i get back but when i browse through SMB via xbmc i dont remember seeing the disk1 but maybe i have to type it in manually i will have a look tonight.

I can see the files in file mode and it plays ok but the library doesnt see them

ill try the shares thing tonight.  I think the scrapers should be ok becasue it scrapes everything else although these particular movies have been downloaded using couchpotato and couchpotato srapes for NFO and JPG and fanart so im not sure

if i browse the files i can see the fanart in the background but not for the folder thumbnail

but ill try it again tonight and will let you know what happens

but i think ill stop messing about with the permissions

My brother thinks its a permissions thing but im not convinced

Ok just to give you an update I checked permissions in sabnzbd and there was already 777 there but without the zero so I left it as it was ...

I then tried to change the source in xbmc from disk1 to the user share and that's when it got interesting. Basically after I did this all my files became hidden again !!! So I had to go into cmd and run attrib -s -r etc.

And then I could see them again I changed the source back to disk1 scanned the library and they all showed up except this time you could see the fan art thumbnails but the titles were missing lol so the list was half empty for some movies although you could scroll through and see the picture and synopsis etc.

I think xbmc is fubared. Any more ideas ? Well atleast I can see light at the end of the tunnel :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Ok apologies for the late feedback but i managed to solve this by uninstalling XBMC and re-installing it

everything seesm to be working now thanks you all for your help :)

and in true Steve Jobs style.....one last thing

When i download using sabnzbd my speeds seem to be really good for a while and then they go down to something like 275kbs and it seesm to be this figure and it doesnt go any higher than this or lower.  and then if i stop it for a while and go back to it aftere a few hours it starts a good speed and then goes down again.  Although sometimes it stays a good speed for a the duration of the whole download, so this tells me its very sporadic i have upgraded my RAM to 4gb it was originaly 1gb and i dont think this has made any difference.  Any one got any other ideas as to why this might be ?

If there is heavy traffic on our network that is using your Internet it can cause the speeds in SABnzbd to slow down.  That initial fast speed is probably the "turbo" feature of your Cable Internet provider.

when you say *our im thinking you mean *your and if im not using the internet for anything else then why would the speeds slow down.  I dont understand i thought the whole point of subscribing to newsgroups is so you get full downloads.  Especially if thats all your doing ... i apreciate if im doing alot of internet browsing etc..at the same time it might effect my download speed but not if im doing nothing else.

All I know is that if I am seeding torrents while SABnzbd is downloading then I get about half the speed I would if I were to stop all seeding torrents.

i dont use torrents but i know what you mean

nevermind i did google and found one other person with a similiar problem but his got fixed becasue he had his retention set differently so im not sure, is there a way i can check the config files or anywhere that could tell me whats wrong?

i checked the sabnzbd config files but doesnt tell me much, its wierd becasue some files come down really good.  so i know its got nothing to do with the age of the files i wonder if its got to do with the number of files ??

I will look into nzbget, i can think sabnzbd is taking up too much of my CPU power and hence the speeds start to slow down, unless my neighbour is hacking into my wifi ... i doubt but i have seen him use torrents and he is alwasy looking at graphs and things...anyway

the main reason i use sabnzbd is because i use it with sickbeard and couchpotatoe could these be used with nzbget?

Are you on cable internet? If so pay attention to "peak hours"  as you may see your speed drop around those times.  Cable internet is a "shared" connection unlike ADSL and DSL.  I switched to U-verse because my cable provider had horrible "peak hour" performance... among other things.

SAB should not slow down unless you are running a prehistoric machine. Even my 1.3GHz Dual Core AMD Microserver copes with SAB, but I didn't like that it was using more CPU and RAM than I liked -- leaving less for other applications and occasionally interrupting video streaming.

I use sickbeard, and it works fine. Later builds send NZBs directly to nzbget, older builds use a blackhole. I don't use CouchPotato, but if it has a blackhole option, it will work.

RE: Slowdowns, it could be that you upload bandwidth is throttling your download -- i.e. if you torrent, or as has been mentioned, if your ISP is throttling. Who is your ISP?

I use BeThere (UK) and have no throttling or caps. I can run SAB at 100% of linespeed 24/7 if I want. I use nzbget to save power and CPU/RAM.

I do not use any of the add-ons listed.

But I get the idea of what they do.

I have 3 thoughts on this.

1 ISP throttling. This is starting to become more common where ISP's see a steady download stream and slow it down. this effects Usenet and Torrents. many are also putting a monthy usage cap on internet use now.

2 You ran or of CPU or Memory resources. use a few tools like TOP to check on your next slowdown.

3 RAR and Disk IO. I am not sure if the program has a Par/RAR set and it auto-repairs broken Rars like some other Usenet downloaders.

if so, this could eat up all your disk IO (possible other resources like CPU) if running in the protected array.

i found the below on the sabnzbd wiki about sabnzbd and download speeds

"2.Make sure python-yenc is installed (yenc-0.3.tar.gz or higher). If you are on windows it will already be present. This will speed up decoding as it will use C code instead of python code. The logging will say at startup whether this module has been installed. If you have installed using a repository/pre-built package you will likely already have it."

im not sure if i have this installed i cant find it in my /boot/packages/ does this mean i dont have it installed can someone help and show me how i can check if i have this installed please?
