Frozenscv
Hello I've been having issues with this harddrive for ages since I've tried adding it to my system. It would be replacing an old drive and nothing I do seems to work. If I try formatting it through normal methods it crashes with the following system logs. While this is not my system the exact same problem happens whenever I try to add the drive. In addition whenever I try to run a smart test I don't get anything going. It just grey's out the opposite (ie if you run short it grey's extended, and vice versa) and then the test button I pressed immediately returns to say "start" after flashing "stop" for a fraction of a second. I've gotten a sort of example using the smartctl -x /dev/sdf command Quote smartctl 7.3 2022-02-28 r5338 [x86_64-linux-5.19.14-Unraid] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-22, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Device Model: ST16000NM000J Serial Number: ZR59W33T LU WWN Device Id: 5 000c50 0e4aa7edc Firmware Version: SN02 User Capacity: 16,000,900,661,248 bytes [16.0 TB] Sector Size: 512 bytes logical/physical Rotation Rate: 7200 rpm Device is: Not in smartctl database 7.3/5405 ATA Version is: ATA8-ACS T13/1699-D revision 4 SATA Version is: SATA 3.0, 6.0 Gb/s Local Time is: Sat Jul 1 14:38:25 2023 CDT SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability. I've tried multiple ports, this cable had been in use for ages with no issues before. I don't have any spare cables on hand and would have to purchase new ones in order to test. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I don't want to waste this drive. formatting - syslog-20230701-1941.zip frozenunraid-diagnostics-20230701-1456.zip Edited July 1, 2023 by Frozenscv Quote Link to comment

trurl
Power connection problems are connection problems just like data cable connection problems. Also, best if no more than 4 drives per PSU cable. Quote Link to comment

I'm still getting the same issue shown in the gif to start with where if I select it to replace a drive it disappears. frozenunraid-syslog-20230707-2051.zip Quote Link to comment
trurl
Diagnostics make it much easier to make sense of syslog, and diagnostics already contains current syslog. Attach diagnostics to your NEXT post in this thread. Quote Link to comment

JorgeB
That unassigned 16TB disk is generating constant ATA errors and not even giving a valid SMART: Read SMART Data failed: scsi error badly formed scsi parameters Try replacing the cables, if issues persist after that it's likely a bad disk Quote Link to comment
