CrashPlan Plugin for unRAID 5b11+ (Installer)

Featured Replies

It didn't even finish syncing and crashed again...  back to "Waiting for Backup."

Refollowed my steps again three more times... no success.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Rebuilding my Flash from scratch...  What's the current best procedure for installing CrashPlan?  Via Plugin?  By itself?  etc?

Thanks,

Russell

I'm having a similar issue.  The time frame seems to line up...  When i start crash plan it just stops right away.  Is there  a log to see why it is stopping?

I don't have the backup crashplan button.  Should that be in the settings menu.  I only have the crashplan install location, enable and status.

I quote what I've written in the other thread

I installed simplefeature web server and I got some conflict with openssl.0.9.0r which is included in this pakage. Trying to resolve I edited the plg in order to not download the old openssl and keep the new one. The problem is that I cannot run Crashplan anymore. Could somebody include in the plugin the newer version of openssl?

Thankyou in advance

I think this is the cause of everybody's problems... Somebody can do this?

Just in case someone else is having a similar issue.

I setup crashplan on the cache drive and all worked well.  In setting up a 'free' version for a friend, I installed it on a share: /mnt/user/apps/crashplan.  I setup the share to use only disk2 (and obviously, no cache drive option was available).  When starting up crashplan I kept getting an error:

Error: no `server' JVM at `/mnt/user/apps/crashplan/cp_bin/jre/lib/i386/server/libjvm.so'.

This error happened when I just tried to execute the java executable.  I tried a few other JDKs and all gave me the same issue.  Turns out, java doesn't really like the share folder setup.  I'm not sure exactly why, but I changed the crashplan install path to use /mnt/disk2/apps/crashplan as its install folder and all worked well.  (I updated this path in the crashplan plugin settings via the unraid menu, deleted the /mnt/user/apps/crashplan folder completely, then disabled/re-enabled the plugin).

I finally had a chance to dig into this.  I checked the log, /usr/local/crashplan/log and it says java permission denied.  a quick chmod +x on java in jre/bin fixed it.  I think it got messed up after I did that change perms script after updating to the RC.

I'd just like to point out that it isn't strictly necessary to use an SSH tunnel to connect to CrashPlan. I don't actually run the crashplan engine on my desktop, only the UI to connect to and configure what runs on the server. I've been doing it without SSH on my unraid server for years.

I don't remember for certain all of the specifics, but I know this for certain:  on my desktop, the only uncommented line in my ui.properties file is "serviceHost=192.168.0.2" which corresponds to IP address of my unraid server. It seems like I may have needed to edit the my.service.xml file on the server to make it bind to 0.0.0.0 instead of 127.0.0.1.

I suppose this configuration isn't secure if external traffic can get to your unraid server, which is why CrashPlan support tells you to use a SSH tunnel. But it hasn't been a concern for me.

Anyhow, thanks for the plugin. I've finally taken the plunge to the 5.0-rc version, and you saved me a bit a of work getting crashplan up and running again.

Anyone else having problems with Crashplan on UnRAID v5 RC16c (the latest)?  I have this plugin installed and working beautifully on RC15a, when I upgraded to RC16c, CrashPlanEngine will not start, even manually.  When I reverted back to RC15a, everything worked again.

It appears something may have changed in core UnRAID that is affecting plugins as RC16c has also caused a few issues with SimpleFeatutes.  Speeding Ant is waiting for V5 Final before addressing issues.  Crashplan is installed to /mnt/cache/.apps  When I tried to start it manually on RC16c it did not start but, something was running as I could not shut down server normally as the cache disk would not unmount (got stuck in an unmounting/mounting loop).

See this post. chmod -R 777 the bin and jre/bin directories and see if that fixes it. It did for me.

v. 5.0 rc16c

Novice user. Running the unRaid now with 2 disks, but going to buy the HP n54L soon.

CrashPlan issues :)

Think I managed to install it a couple of times, and this mess things up.

Before starting array:

CrashPlan GUI: CrashPlan does not appear to be installed: (looked in /usr/local/crashplan/bin/CrashPlanEngine)

CrashPlan (in Settings) Enable Crashplan, yes. Install Dir: /usr/local/crashbackup (If I choose crashplan, I get an endless loop of error with "file exist"

Starting array, looks like CrashPlan install it self again...

CrashPlan GUI

CrashPlan appears to be installed in: /usr/local/crashplan/bin/CrashPlanEngine

Crashplan is not runnning.

Pressing "Start" I get "CrashPlan is already running with pid xxxx

In terminal(putty) I see /usr/local/crashplan@ (in cyan) and /usr/local/crashbackup/ (with green background color.)

I configure the CrashPlan on my unRaid using the method of tricking the win gui, working fine. But after each reboot, my computer can't find the backup-dir on my server.

Login again with the CrashPlan program, connecting to my unRaid, everything looks fine, just that I get an other "Tower" that is green. Tried to rename it to TowerBackup, reboot the server.. same thing. A new computer on the list, called "Tower"...

Please tell me what file to post, that could include the wrong settings :)

I don't mind letting CrashPlan install when rebooting, like my PlexMediaServer does. Not planing to reboot a lot, and don't mind the waiting :) as long as I do not have to setup CrashPlan each time...

Edit: My Go script.

#!/bin/bash
# Start the Management Utility
/usr/local/sbin/emhttp &
/boot/unmenu/uu
cd /boot/packages && find . -name '*.auto_install' -type f -print | sort | xargs -n1 sh -c

In /boot/packages I find CrashPlan_3.5.3_Linux.tgz

Strange thing usually follows trouble :)

My CrashPlan crash/stop as soon as I start a backup... takes just a few seconds.. Then I have to start the CrashPlan engine again. And it runs, untill I start a backup from my computer again.

can't make Crashplan work after upgrading to 5.0rc16c.

no matter what i configure in the plugin's install dir, it tries to start at /usr/local/crashplan/bin/CrashPlanEngine.

any help will be appreciated.

Hello.

Is this plugin compatible with version 5.0 final?

Thanks

I just upgraded from 5.0-RC5 to the final release this weekend and didn't need to do anything to make Crashplan continue working.  I have always set the install directory to my cache drive: /mnt/cache/.crashplan (so I don't know if that's why I didn't need to change the permissions to the bin and jre/bin directories as many people have done).  I know it will run properly if installed to a disk (such as /mnt/disk1/.crashplan).  I don't know if this plugin will allow you to set Crashplan to run in memory (based on some of the earlier posts in this thread) - but I could be wrong as I haven't read this through this whole thread in a long time.

FYI: I installed the plugin in Aug 2012 using these steps:

http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=15921.msg197020#msg197020

At the time, I also installed a separate Crashplan GUI plugin and needed to modify the plugin to prevent it from trying to download the Crashplan icon at every reboot:

http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=15518.msg197019#msg197019

There are also some good installation instructions here (so my method could be out-of-date):

I ran the New Permissions script and that seemed to break my Crashplan setup.  It took me a while to realize what I had done but these are the steps I took (it could be simpler but this is what worked):

  • WebGUI-Utilities-Crashplan and WebGUI-Settings-Crashplan both incorrectly indicated that CP was running.  But typing "ps aux | grep java" showed it was not.

  • By the way, WebGUI-Utilities-Crashplan says "CrashPlan appears to be installed in: /usr/local/crashplan/bin/CrashPlanEngine" even though Settings-Crashplan says it is installed at /mnt/cache/.crashplan.  I know it is installed here since the logs get updated in this directory, etc.  So I assume this just means that Crashplan is running from memory.

  • I changed permissions in /mnt/cache/.crashplan/cp_bin/bin and /mnt/cache/.crashplan/cp_bin/jre/bin (chmod 777)

  • Clicking Start or Stop from GUI didn't work.  So I had to type
    /usr/local/crashplan/bin/CrashPlanEngine stop
    /usr/local/crashplan/bin/CrashPlanEngine start
It's possible that I ran into a permissions denied, so then I:
    chmod 777 /usr/local/crashplan/bin/CrashPlanEngine

  • CrashPlan started to work again (and continues to work after several reboots)

One more thing: I noticed that I can't stop the unRAID array anymore (since updating to 5.0 Final) without first manually stopping Crashplan.  People have reported this in the past but it had never been an issue for me.  If I don't stop Crashplan, then the WebGUI just keeps saying something like "Retry unmounting disk share."  It was stuck in a loop and I was able to unmount the cache drive with "fuser -k /mnt/cache"

  • 1 month later...

When running version v5 RC15a of UnRaid, I had reinstalled Crashplan following the instructions in this thread: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=27451.msg241409#msg241409

Everything worked great and I have backed up 2.2 TB to Crashplan Central.

I have now upgraded to V5 final and the CrashPlanEngine will not start.

I have tried doing the chmod 777 on bin and jre/bin files (I think permissions were fine before) as well as CrashPlanEngine.

The Crashplan plugin has install set to /mnt/cache/.apps/crashplan and claims Crashplan is running (it is not)

The Crashplan GUI plugin claims Crashplan appears to be installed in /usr/local/crashplan/bin/CrashPlanEngine but it is not running.  The Start button will not start it.  I cannot manually start it from this location.

I have also installed a new SSD cache drive, but, I copied the contents of .apps/crashplan from the old mechanical cache drive to the new SSD cache.  The Crashplan installation appears to be intact on the new cache drive.

CrashPlanEngine start will simply not start the engine no matter how it is attempted.

What can I check?  What may be preventing Crashplan from starting?

Is anything that uses Java running?

ps aux | grep java

Is anything that uses Java running?

ps aux | grep java

It appears nothing java related is running.

All I see is a line that says the following:

root  26273  0.0  0.0  2448  588 pts/0  S+  14:18  0.00  grep  java

So it looks like Java is running.  Is Crashplan loaded into memory?  What if you

cd /usr/local/crashplan/bin/

Do you see CrashPlanEngine (I see CrashPlanDesktop  CrashPlanEngine*  restartLinux.sh  run.conf  vars.sh)

What message do you get when you type "/usr/local/crashplan/bin/CrashPlanEngine start" [or stop]?

I ran into the same troubles and there was a discussion about it in this thread: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=26527 .

The problem was with memory settings in the Crashplan run.conf file. I used to have  -Xmx2048m and after upgrading to v5 final Crashplan would not run any more. Apparently due to java not allocating more than 1.5 Gb of memory on a 32bit system. Why it worked before v5 final I have not been able to find out.

Now I have it set to  -Xmx1900m and Crashplan will run but will run out of memory when backing up over 2.2Tb of data.

I see all the same files in usr/local/crashplan/bin.

CrashplanEngine start produces the following message:

Starting Crashplan Engine ... Using standard startup

OK

But, it is not running.

CrashPlanEngine stop produces the following:

Stopping Crashplan Engine ... ./CrashPlanEngine:  line:144  kill: (11344) - no such process

OK

I have -Xmx2048m in run.conf as I was getting the "Crashplan has been disconnected from the backup engine" errors and this solved it.  I tried changing to -Xmx1900m and CrashPlanEngine will still not start.  I have 2.2 TB backed up and just added a bunch more pictures and videos which have yet to be backed up.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Crashplan to /mnt/cache/.apps/crashplan

CrashPlanEngine starts fine after a reinstallation; however, if I reboot the server or manually stop the CrashPlanEngine, it cannot be restarted.  Right now, I am back to the unable to start Crashplan mode.  I really do not want to reinstall every time I need to backup my array.  What is up with Crashplan?
