March 30, 201214 yr can i safely update to the latest ps3 media server? the latest version is 1.52 and this plugin is using 1.4. can i safely update to the latest java? im planning of manually editing the plugins, but i wonder, why nobody has done so when its so simple? thanks.
March 31, 201214 yr Hi, When i install pms using installplg, i got a lot of Cannot change ownership to uid 501 What should i do. THanks.
March 31, 201214 yr Author @publicENEMY, You had 2 questions... For all the 501/permissions-related errors, you can ignore... Apologies for the confusion, but simply put, the errors are there because the tar package was created on my mac and therefore have some additional users/groups that don't exist on the unraid box. This is a known issue and should be fixed in one of my future releases (it's just not a priority since it's a relatively benign error...) As for updating the core packages (ps3 media server to v1.50 series and jre to v7 series), you should be able to update the URLs in the plugin to point to newer versions. I am in the midst of reorganizing the code for the plugin but haven't had time to follow through and finish. I am personally hesitant to just update the core packages w/o testing a bit on my end (otherwise, I could be potentially creating more work if I had to start debugging). And once again, it's coming down to time... That being said, I am not aware of any new dependencies of either package. I may just update the existing older plugin with the caveat that it's the last of this current series and not to expect further updates until the new plugin is done... If you are fine with this, let me know... thanks!

April 10, 201214 yr i never got pms working. i cant see pms remotely. i install pms to a different location than default (/mnt/cache/.ps3mediaserver/ps3mediaserver) based on guides from wiki http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/PS3_Media_Server, i try java, mencoder, ffmpeg and all work fine. what should i do? thanks.

Are you using the plugin or the manual install via the wiki? Also, I see from a previous post that you updated some core software (e.g. java & ps3ms). what versions? did it work previously? what else do you have installed? anything else updated? can you try posting the contents of the following commands: cat /mnt/cache/.ps3mediaserver/ps3mediaserver/debug.log [code] [code] ffmpeg mplayer thanks!

April 10, 201214 yr Author ffmpeg: /usr/lib/libz.so.1: no version information available (required by /usr/l ib/libavcodec.so.53) Hmmm... Was the output for mplayer mis-copied? It appears identical to ffmpeg output... Well, at least for ffmpeg, you are missing at least one library. You haven't answered my other questions (re: other software), but since you have updated core software (e.g. ffmpeg v0.9), obviously my mencoder-packages won't know about dependencies that the new software requires. You need to look for a package for at least zlib (I think) and install that, but unfortunately, I don't know if that's the only new dependency introduced by including new versions of core software. After that, I think you're on your own since I really can't/don't want to support ALL variations. The only one that I can realistically support with some level of consistency is if I know what's included (i.e. what gets installed by my package). Thanks!
April 10, 201214 yr i forgot to remove ffmpeg output from mencoder output. i install all available multimedia plugins and multimedia unmenu addons(for testing purpose. my unraid havent live yet). while i do understand its impractical to support all variation, i do appreciate your effort and insight. ive included your edited plugins(mainly to install latest ffmpeg, pms and java) and debug.log. thanks. ps3mediaserver-1.52.1-i486-1.5aj.rar.txt
July 3, 201214 yr Hi, Relatively new user here, well to unRAID anyway.... Are there any updates to this plugin as ps3ms is upto v1.54 and the current plugin installs v1.4 or can you update it manually, also the audio is out of sync, is there any way to correct this ? All my files are .m2ts's with either dtsma or truhd audio so i'm assuming the audio is getting transcoded to lpcm. Thanks
July 19, 201213 yr It seems that jre-6u27 is gone from the server it's supposed to pull from, it's easy enough to fix the path but not sure where to get it from now? In fact there is no jre*.txz in http://carroll.cac.psu.edu/pub/linux/distributions/slackware/slackware-current/slackware/l/ at all. Does anyone know which version is ok to use and where to get it from? EDIT: Seems like Java was removed all together from Slackware on 13th July? ftp://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/slackware/slackware-current/ChangeLog.txt Soooo being a noob, what should I do to get this installed now? Should I track down somewhere that has jre-6u27-i586-1.txz? Would jre-6u25 work? That's in one of the older Slackware versions...

November 3, 201213 yr Thanks for the information. I updated the plugin and tried to run it, but it still failed to download the two files from the https sites. I downloaded the two files in Safari and placed them into the packages directory, then the plugin installation worked. Thanks for all the help.

November 21, 201213 yr The plugin is no longer working on my system. I'm not sure why. I keep getting DLNA errors now It might have to do with a recent PS3 update. At this rate I may just end up building a small HTPC to handle all media in our household. The PS3 solution has been a major FAIL from day one.
November 21, 201213 yr Apex77 -- I ditched the PS3 and went with a HTPC setup and have never looked back. Unfortunately, the PS3 is severely lacking as a media server. On the plus side, you can sell a PS3 for near the same cost a basic HTPC costs, so you won't be out too much money
