Feature Request: Integrated FTP

Featured Replies

I'm not sure if there is an addon for this or not, but as part of the webUI would it be possible to have an FTP client? Before you facepalm, hear me out:

Most of my media is downloaded on an external seedbox and so while torrent addons are in abundance, I grab most of my downloads via FTP.

What this means is to make use of my offpeak quota I have to leave my PC on overnight and considering my unRAID box is on 24/7 this seems like a waste of power.

Being able to schedule an FTP transfer to start at say, 1am and save the download directly to the unRAID box would be great.

Even if scheduling isn't an option, the ability to FTP direct to a share would be very convenient.

Thanks  8)

ftp is there already, but there is no GUI to configure it.  You need to do that via the command line.

Do you know if there are any add-ons that give you a GUI? I'm capable of using the terminal, I'm just lazy..

I wasn't aware it was already built in though, that's a start  ;D

This would be helpful :)

What FTP daemon or program is used by default? Proftpd? Vsftpd? Pure-ftpd?

Tapatalk is tha shizzle

And couldn't a webmin like app be installed to control vsftpd? I'm new to unRAID so forgive me for not knowing. (I am not new to Linux, user for 5 years+ years and I don't mean a std user, I'd consider myself pwr user)

UPDATE: sorry, didn't realize this is a "feature request" an not so much a user asking if it's possible

webmin might work.  I bookmarked it for later review... when I have the time.

I looked at webmin a while back and saw it had a dependency on perl and it seemed that people were not willing to go that route. I dunno why. Perhaps it changed over time.

Ideally if unmenu was in webmin, we would have this great framework to add on.

It's one of the reasons I held back on allot.

unmenu in awk (not for nothing, but just because you can....) I'm not putting this tool down, I just never felt gawk was the right language for it.

webmin, could have been a good contender if we all worked towards it.

webgui with unRAID 5.x... waiting till everything is flushed out.

This is a good direction to go.. and perhaps it's better to provide efforts in that direction.

However, I'm all for webmin as a possibility if the dependencies and foot print are small enough.

At some point I worked on a mini_httpd server with an embedded miniperl interpreter for CGI.

miniperl was a 700k interpreter statically compiled to do basic perl without any of the packages.

I still think that unRAID's webgui provides what is needed.

Hi chickensoup,

Did you get this "issue" worked out or are you still using your Windows client to download the files from the FTP box? I am in the same boat and any progress or lack thereof would be really helpful. I don't want my gaming machine on all the time, if i can help it

How much do you pay for your seedbox? I would argue if it's more then $10 a month you would be better off getting a usenet account and downloading directly to unraid.

I'm using my Win7/Ubuntu box + unRAID still; Filezilla most of the time but for scheduled transfers I'm now using FTPRush. While it isn't the most power efficient setup it works for now.

I'm paying about $34aud/month (23.99gbp) for a gigbit box with full root access, unlimited up/down traffic and ~350gb of drive space. I've only had it for a few months but I now have a buffer of nearly 3TB on one of my private torrent sites and when downloading from the box my download speed is capped by my [lack of] internet connection, which unfortunately for me is around 550kb/sec. I'll probably build up a bit more of a buffer then just cancel the subscription for a while, only issue with that is that sometimes it can take months for another box to become available.
