March 13, 201214 yr I'm looking for a way to easily identify a particular drive. I want to be able to look at my system and know which drive is parity, disk1, disk2...etc... I can do this by doctoring a photo and adding it to unmenu.. but I still need to figure it out the first time. The hard way is to just yank each drive and look at the serial number.. But I'd much rather have the drive activity light blink for a given drive when I want it to. Is there a utility to do this in unraid or in unmenu? I have the norco drive cages so I can see the individual lights for drive activity... Jim
March 13, 201214 yr I have a script here called identify_drive.sh http://code.google.com/p/unraid-weebotech/downloads/list Also I think 5.0 betas have an option to blink the drive and identify it.
March 13, 201214 yr Author Thanks, I'll check it out the script... Also I think 5.0 betas have an option to blink the drive and identify it. I'm running beta 11 and I didn't see anything.. so it might be there.. I just didn't see it! Jim
March 13, 201214 yr I haven't seen it in Beta 14 either. There is "Drive Identify"(atleast with simple features) but it gets smart data from the drive, not identify which drive it is.
March 13, 201214 yr Just out of curiosity, where exactly is this LED that blinks on the hard drive? I am confused!
March 13, 201214 yr Is there a LED on a disk. Never noticed it. Would be a nice feature. Must be in the cage I guess.
March 14, 201214 yr Some drives do have LEDs on the controllers that act as an activity LED. I had an old Quantum drive that did this. Made it nice to scope out which was which and should be on all drives, IMHO.
