The built in ftp

Featured Replies

Hi all-

I started researching and trying to use the FTP plugin.  Does anyone actually use the built in FTP server?  And what has your experience been?  I started looking at the config file and it made my head hurt a bit  :o .

I am looking for a way to have multiple ftp users to access potentially 2-3 directories with different read/write access and want to try to limit my exposure to attacks.  I wouldn't mind trying to use a different port for FTP to try and hide it a bit, and potentially try to ban or autoban based on too many failed attempts.

Has anyone done anything like this with the ftp server plugin and unraid as both the server as well as the datastore?  I currently have the unregistered version of unraid.

TIA

althor

Does no one use the ftp server?

Version 5 FTP works but doesn't display any files.

Essentially it's broken for me until Limetech fixes it.

It has always been like this. Even in the 4 versions. At least when I tried it, same thing happened.

Resurrecting this thread...  Speeding_ant-  Any chance you are planning a ftp plugin of some sort?  Its starting to look like i will need an ftp server of some sort.

I loaded the proftpd and have the same thing, I can only login with anonymous and it doesnt show any files in the folder.  I tried to figure out how I could add additional users and give them access to certain folders but no dice......  Is the additional users tied to the Unraid license?

As althoralthor said "my head hurts"! :o

As of April 2012, vsftpd-3.0.0.tar.gz is available. I failed miserably in trying the install due to the fact that I have all of ten minutes "Linux" experience.

Maybe just spinning my wheels and not installable in unRAID.

Oh well I tried.

I like to reactivate this Topic and may ask if there are any news regarding the FTP because i like to use it and cant see any files on the Disk

I found this thread, http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=23652.msg208376#msg208376, and followed it and I can now FTP into my system.  I used WinSCP with the ftp protocol on port 20.  Used "root" as the username and left the password blank.

I used the "mcedit /etc/vsftpd.conf"  to add the "anon_world_readable_only=NO" line to the bottom of the file.  The I left the root at the "mnt" for my testing.  I now need to put in so that it is run from the go file.

Well, as I really want FTP-Access for myself, I started working on an ProFTPD plugin.

What it does at the moment, is disable the builtin ftp server, download the latest slackware proftpd package and install it. It will move a working config file to /etc/ and start the server. :)

It is not yet ready to be released however, as I'll still have to work on integrating it into Simple Features so the users will be editable without shell config file editing. And some work and thought will have to go into automatically checking and setting the right permissions for the ftp directories.

So stay tuned. I'll report my progress here. If it's ready I'll open a new topic with download and installation instructions.
