Unraid OS Version 7.2.1-rc.1 available

Featured Replies

We're working on some nice fixes and improvements and we'd like to share a preview of what's coming... Unraid 7.2.1-rc.1 is now available! If you had any issues in 7.2.0 please try this out and continue the discussion in your original support thread to let us know if this solved it.

Details are in the release notes, upgrade instructions are in the docs.

This announce post is perfect for quick questions or comments, but if you suspect there will be back and forth for your specific issue, please start a new topic in the Prereleases board. Be sure to include your diagnostics.zip.

Just found https://forums.unraid.net/bug-reports/stable-releases/720-ipv6-networking-to-vms-no-longer-functional-r4136/

I do wanna mention, while i havent poked into it directly, i do believe that this is to 99% caused by docker and that we still havent gotten any update to a release in the 28 series (https://docs.docker.com/engine/release-notes/28/#port-publishing-in-bridge-networks), which finally fixes their shenanigans is amusing

To especially note, 28.5.2, which has come out on the 5th has 3 CVE fixes

Edit:

Theres also still this report open

https://forums.unraid.net/bug-reports/stable-releases/700-vms-no-longer-receive-an-ipv6-address-since-upgrade-to-v700-r3620/#findComment-36030

which is also caused by docker

This should have been fixed in 7.2.1-rc.1, LT found the issue, and you can blame me for bungling the testing, but the solution is confirmed, and it should be in 7.2.1 stable.

It should also fix this (though IPv6 in VMs should work with 7.1.4, unless it's a different problem)

I dont want to blame anyone but docker for that and i did give them shit for that on github when it occured, cause 7 year prior to it, they fumbled the exact same thing the exact same way and learned nothing.

I do hope that this solution is an update to docker to solve the underlying root cause (and the breakout cve's) which was introduced with the jump to 27.5.1 and not another temporary solution that becomes permanent.

Its a bit baffling that ive to compile my own docker engines for unraid and distribute them when its simply solved with an update to it.

From my understanding, the issue with IPv6 not working with VMs is not directly related to Docker, but I do believe LT plans to update Docker for 7.3.x, pretty sure they won't do that during 7.2 stable since updating Docker can be a big can of worms, so it is typically done during beta testing.

Any dot releases for 7.2.x will be bug fixes, that is what we are focused here in 7.2.1-rc.1. Check it out!

We will likely upgrade Docker in 7.3.0

Looks like you may be right, and it's more related to Docker than I thought. Starting the Docker service is messing with the ip6tables settings and causing issues with VMs, unclear to me if it's actual Docker or something in Unraid related to the Docker service, but LT should be able to resolve it either way, even if Docker requires some patching.

Is this because of IPv6 issues? And just that, or did you find other problems?

Yeah mainly because of that. Docker started messing with the firewall rules with version 27.1.2 i think (it was 27.0.3) and finally fixed that with 28.0.1. Ich777 wrote a fix for it, but there are cases where it doesnt work, as you can see the 7.0.0 issue. Since then it was just for features, like declaring gateways which they added which is not that big. But that messing with the firewall was absolutely infuriating. Regadless, given 28.5.2 addresses some breakout vurnabilities, thats certainly one main concern.

Today I tried updating to this RC version, and after restarting, my server appeared like this:

It doesn't list a single one of the many disks it has 😅

After a second restart, it was fine... but it doesn't show that it's on RC1... it shows 7.2.0, and I didn't revert the version.

And now, if I click "update OS," it always stays like this:

I'm going to restore the USB backup 🤷

you know that beta versions are only offered if you select manually the "next" version tab?

You also have to acknowledge the disclaimer and log in to unraid.net.

Only after these 3 things the update will be done.

Unlikely that was a direct result of the upgrade, but if you still have those diags, please start a new thread/bug report and post them there.

I restored a backup from the USB drive and tried again, and this time it worked fine. It's been working for a few hours now and hasn't given me any problems.

Bit different question, excuse me for dropping it here, I am new to unraid and I installed trial version on SanDisk Ultra Flair 64GB mannually. Because it was saying blacklisted usb while I never had installed or used unraid. Now, my trial works fine on same usb and I see GUID under tools/registration. If I buy unleashed license in upcoming Black Friday sale next week, will it work with my SanDisk Ultra Flair 64GB or I need to buy separate usb drive?

Thank you

Did you note this restriction on Formatting your 64Gb flash drive:

If the trial version is working on your flash drive, then your purchased license should work properly. (I have never heard of an instance where this is not the case.)

Thank you for confirmation. Otherwise I need to spend 20 USD on some fancy usb disk which voids the discount which I will get on Black Friday 😄

This restriction does not exist anymore on recent windows 11 versions.

But of course, using FAT with such sizes is a waste of space because a cluster (the smallest disk part a file can use) grows ridiculously large.

(exFAT does not make it better)

But, as you can see, it works

If you mean the ones mentioned here, they will be in 7.2.1 and newer.
