January 8Jan 8 I have a drive that suddenly became disabledI tried to stop array, detach device, start array, stop array, assign device, start array so it rebuilds but it stays... disabled instead of building up again. The drive is in a hot swappable cage... i switched them there, (same sata cable), but still the same..Error in attachmentIts my newest drive, did it die? What to do? diskerror
January 8Jan 8 Author huh, very strange that cables get "damaged" by sitting there years..The disk is via sata connected to the AOC-SASLP-MV8 expansion card. Will try to connect other sata to the mobo instead, but i'll keep using the same power cord...
January 8Jan 8 Author I replaced power and sata cable (disconnected pool disk and used those, so its not connected on the sas expansion card either), but its still disabled.I stopped array, removed drive, turned on array, stopped array, added drive (assign), start array (so it builds up)But again, it says disabled (with other power and sata cable)... it throws error again, new attachmentNO % building up againIf it fails cable why can i see the disk then to assign it? unraid-diagnostics-20260108-1223.zip

January 8Jan 8 Author CrapI swapped the drive, to do a final test and replaced disk 7 with 22 had the smart error report7 is the one i couldnt bring it back to the array installed againI shouldnt have done that. After setting everything original, i get this:Unmountable disks present:Disk 2 • WDC_WD20EARS-00MVWB0_WD-WMAZA1502825 (sdd)Disk 7 • WDC_WD60EZAZ-00ZGHB0_WD-WX71DC81PC3H (sdh)i cant format those right or i will lose data ?Anyway, i'm ordering 1 new disk probably 2 but they are so expensive nowadays I shouldnt have tried further..
January 8Jan 8 Author Just thinking, if i buy 2x10tb now.. but my parity is 8tbIs this doable now with those 2 disks failing without losing data?

Post new diags after the array starts, and don't format the disks.
January 8Jan 8 Author Its doing a check filesystem status now (in maintenancemode)Hope i can repair disk and then swap parity, and disk 7 with a bigger one See attachmentStill going on after 2 hours

January 8Jan 8 Author i swapped place disk 2 and 7to test other cables tooThen both are failingUnmountable disks present:Disk 2 • WDC_WD20EARS-00MVWB0_WD-WMAZA1502825 (sdd)That one had smart errors beforeDisk 7 i cant add anymore its doesnt rebuildI ordered 2x 10tb drives
January 8Jan 8 Just swapping disk positions should not touch the file system unless there's some hardware issue. Post the output from blkid

January 9Jan 9 Disk2 is not showing a filesystem signature, and it has pending sectors, so it could be failing. Run an extended SMART test and post the results.
January 10Jan 10 Author ok so before i do thatHeres the situationI got one 8tb parityI got 2 disks failingdisk 7 is popping as unassigned, but i cant chose to assignI can live with losing data on disk 2 (2tb)I cannot live with losing data on disk 7 (6tb)I would prefer losing no dataToday , 2x10tb disks are coming in so i can replace. What do i do in what way? extended smart tests are running for both disks. Or do i need to buy another 6tb disk to save the data on disk 7 ????????? Edited January 10Jan 10 by skank
January 10Jan 10 Those images are not working for me, you can attach any images directly to the forum
January 10Jan 10 Author ok here are the imagesI found another 2 tb spare disk, though i'm not sure if it still works. What can i do now, knowing i have a spare 2tb disks (not sure working), 2x10TB coming in today... and free hot swappable bays2x smart reports still runningShould i be able to save disk 7 (6tb) or should i get another 6 tb drive... Edited January 10Jan 10 by skank
January 10Jan 10 If xfs_repair can't repair the filesystem, rebuilding the disks won't fix that. Once the SMART test finishes, reboot to clear the logs and post a new diags after array start.
