December 7, 201213 yr I am running 5.0 rc-1 and want to update to the latest version I have replaced bzroot and bzimage with new versions, as per Tom's instructions However the server boots up fine, but shares are not accessible The 2 PC's which I have on my network can see the server "TOWER" but access is denied to all shares? I have only have one user which is the default "root" For now I have gone but to the 5.0 rc-1 versions of bzimage and bzroot, and the server and accessiblity are OK
December 7, 201213 yr Here are the instruction for upgrading from rc1 to rc8a: Version 5.0-beta6a through all previous 5.0-rc 1) Prepare the flash: either shutdown your server and plug the flash into your PC or Stop the array and perform the following actions referencing the flash share on your network: Copy the files bzimage and bzroot from the zip file to the root of your flash device, overwriting the same-named files already there. 2) Reboot your server. Once boot-up has completed, you should see "Stopped. Configuration valid." array status with all disks assigned correctly. 3) Click on each disk link on the Main page and examine the Partition format field. If you see "MBR: error", or "MBR: unknown" for any disk, do not Start the array; instead post your finding in the Forum announcement thread for this release. 4) If everything looks ok, click Start to bring the array on-line. You will be doing steps 3 & 4 from the WebGUI. Tom has setup the recent releases so that they do not automatically startup the array until the user has had an opportunity to verify that everything is OK. If you array status says 'Started', you should be able to access it. Post back with more information (including a syslog) fro more help.
December 7, 201213 yr Create a user. root is no longer allowed share access. You are correct. However, my ver5rc8a system works fine with only one user (on the WebGUI) of root [Console and webGui login account]. You do not require a second user unless you want to create restricted access.
December 7, 201213 yr Author When did the requirement to have another user in addition to root take place? My rc-1 systems works fine with just root as a user?
December 7, 201213 yr When did the requirement to have another user in addition to root take place? My rc-1 systems works fine with just root as a user? Did you try rebooting your windows computers after you updated unRaid?

Should be sufficient to open a command window on each PC and type this command: net use * /delete
