June 20, 201313 yr I'm in idiot.... I was going to post what garycase just said..but he posted before me.. then weebo posted about esata.. Then I remembered the whole point of the qnap was to replace my current computer that just has qnap/sickbeard on lol thus.. I have a whole spare computer to use as for a spare computer. LOL!!!! So tell me something. you have a computer running the QNAP sofware? is it that easy to drop in? you've made me wonder about doing that on an HP Microserver.
June 20, 201313 yr ... I have a whole spare computer to use Always handy to have a few spares ... at any given moment, I usually have at least 3-5 spare PC's in my "junk room" [i help a LOT of folks with PC issues; and usually get their old systems to throw away ... I cannibalize what I can and then donate the old units to various charities.] But one of those older units work quite nicely for a "pre-clear" machine, so I simply use them when I need to do a preclear or run extended diagnostics with Data Lifeguard, SeaTools, Spinrite, etc. ... actually, at the moment I have 8 PC's stacked in the back
June 20, 201313 yr FWIW, I have one of these for eSATA operations, Works good for quick loading and preclearing. http://www.startech.com/HDD/Enclosures/35in-eSATA-USB-Black-SATA-External-Hard-Drive-Enclosure~SAT3510BU2E That's definitely a "cosmetically nicer" unit than what I use ... but I like my little BlacX units, and they work for both 3.5" and 2.5" drives (and hold 2 drives at-a-time): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153112 I have a few units like that. When doing something as long as preclear, you want to have a fan moving air nearby. I usually end up getting the models with the eSATA, USB and the built in card reader. Since my case is full I'm using this Rosewill for preclears and backing up critical files for storage offsite. USB3 and eSATA

USB3 and eSATA I currently use that with a 1.5TB WD EADS as a cache drive for my N40L (eSata port) until I get my laptop drive installed inside the N40L below the optical bay.

So tell me something. you have a computer running the QNAP sofware? is it that easy to drop in? you've made me wonder about doing that on an HP Microserver. It's so easy... 4 steps 1. Remove All Internal components of existing computer 2. Put QNAP box inside case 3. Run Ethernet and power into case 4. turn on
