October 16, 200619 yr So, I have been looking into digital audio streamers and I was wondering if anyone is using squeezebox with unRAID??
October 16, 200619 yr Are you refering to running the sqeezebox server on the UnRaid? That would be really cool.
October 16, 200619 yr Yes, Squeezebox integrates with a server called SlimServer which is available for linux. I've downloaded the latest version 6.5, but it will take some work to get it running. Combined with unRAID, you would be able to create the mother of all music servers
October 16, 200619 yr Author Yes, Squeezebox integrates with a server called SlimServer which is available for linux. I've downloaded the latest version 6.5, but it will take some work to get it running. Combined with unRAID, you would be able to create the mother of all music servers This is my point.... I collect tons and tons of Live music that are .FLAC files... and I have started to research how to stream these without the need of my modded xbox and it seems that Squeezebox is a really slick streamer... Tom, very cool that you are thinking about the Slimserver support, hopefully it can all work out
October 16, 200619 yr Let me know when you get a Squeezebox & I'll try to give you a release with the SlimServer code. Their transporter product also looks really interesting. If you don't mind, I'm going to move this thread to "Feature Requests".
October 16, 200619 yr I use SageTV as my front-end and it will now work with Slimserver (via a user provided plugin). I'd really be interested in getting this to work.
October 16, 200619 yr OK, I'm not using my Slimserver with my unRaid *yet* (as my unRaid is still in the dev/test phase), but, I've been a big fan of the Slimserver and Squeezebox for a couple of years, as I've got Squeezebox 2's all over my house I think Slimserver is a pretty low overhead, on I/O, cpu and memory, though it does use mySql and runs some sort of lightweight web server. Tom, you know the Infrant ReadyNAS products support running SS on them (and they even do a bundle with the SB hardware too)? Having a "competing offering" can't be bad for the marketing effort HTH! Matt
October 17, 200619 yr I have SlimServer running on my HTPC and use the unRAID as a WAV and playlist repository for my Squeezebox. It would be great to run the SlimServer on the unRAID instead. If you'd like a beta tester for the LINUX version, I'm in. Kevin
December 31, 200619 yr Getting SlimServer running on unRAID is the only thing stopping me from jumping on the bandwagon at this point. If there's a beta I can test, let me at it. I'd much rather have an expandable solution like unRAID than a drive-limited Infrant. I currently run Slimserver on my main PC and have a couple devices using it. I did have to upgrade to 6.5.1 to avoid some crashes that seem to be caused by a firmware upgrade on my Roku Soundbridge.
January 2, 200719 yr Combined with unRAID, you would be able to create the mother of all music servers Hahaha... Let's assume a FLAC file for 5 minutes of music typically takes up 40MB. So a puny 400GB drive would provide about 800 hours of music. With 11 x 400GB drives in your unRaid, you'd have 8800 hours of music - or 367 days of music. So if you listened non-stop 24x7 for a year you wouldn't quite get through all the music In my wildest dreams, I might get to listen to music for 20 hours a week, so on a more realistic basis (!) that would be enough for about 8 and a half years of listening
January 3, 200719 yr Author Well, I have a SqueezeBox now... Tom, any word... we would love to beta test!
January 18, 200719 yr I am corrently working on making this work with myyet to be released unraid-dev. Stay tuned.
April 15, 200719 yr Author So, I now have one heck of a Live Phish FLAC collection on my unRAID server (think 1TB). Would love to be able to stream this down to my Squeezebox Tom, any luck getting Slimserver working with 4.0??
June 24, 200719 yr Hi, I agree, slimserver and unraid would make a great couple! Any progress on this to report? Also, slim server and unraid i probably a much better team than readynas and slimserver, which has seen some performance problems lately with the database look-ups (infrant is using a much slower processor than unraid is typically running on) B.R. /Fredrik
