bloodlust
I have a few questions about this card. I'm looking for expand my unRAID server and seen decent reviews on this card. Can someone tell me who might have this card if it works well with unRAID? Also, Does this card support 3 & 4TB HDD's? Is there anything special to get this card to work with unRAID or is it pretty much plug and play? Thanks! Quote Link to comment
SSD
It is supported by unRAID. This is an x8 card (needs an x8 or faster slot). Would probably also work in an x4 slot so long as it physically fit. In general a controller card can support 2 drives to PCIe lane. So an x1 slot with 2 drives on it would allow each drive to run at full speed even when accessing both at max speed. And x4 would allow 8 drives. And an x8 like this would support 16 drives. But this controller is an x8 card that supports only 8 drives. But these drives could all be very fast SSD drives and support them at full speed. In order to use this card, you'd need a pair of SAS 8087 fan out cables like these ... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816115064 At $15 each, it would cost $30 in cables to use the card. Thanks for the info. The cables where something I totally overlooked as I thought the card itself had 8 SATA ports on it. This card will support 3 & 4TB HDD's correct. I seen some people complaining about the other Supermicro card saying it didn't support anything over 2TB, But that could of been an old firmware version of that card. I have nothing but 3 & 4TB drives and want to make sure they will be seen. Thanks! Quote Link to comment

Be careful to buying the BR10i (or any controller based on the LSI 1068 chipset), as they are limited to 2T drives (since there is no such thing as a 2.2T drive, the extra 0.2T of capacity is not useful unless you want to downsize a 3T drive ). bkastner
I have two of these controllers in my UnRAID system and all of my drives run through them (3TB and 4TB). They work great, and I have not had any issues. Quote Link to comment

malcolmkza
Hello, I've ordered a Supermicro SAS2LP-MV8 and it's on its way to me. AFAIK, there's no cable included in the box, so I need to buy it separately. I've managed to source the following, a Supermicro 64CM Ipass to 4 SATA Cable (CBL-0188L) http://za.eetgroup.com/i/CBL-0188L-Supermicro-64CM-Ipass-to-4-SATA-Cable Is anyone able to confirm that this is the CORRECT cable for the Supermicro SAS2LP-MV8? Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Quote Link to comment
bkastner
Yes, it looks like its the correct cable (SFF-8087). The only thing I notice is it indicates the 4 SATA cables are different lengths. Hopefully that doesn't pose any issues for where you want them to go. Quote Link to comment
malcolmkza
Yes, good point and it's not 100% ideal but beggars can't be choosers in my situation. I'm limited to what can be imported to South Africa and Amazon won't ship a fair amount of the products that are discussed in these forums. Needles in haystacks. Thanks for the reply. malcolmkza
Yes, definitely 2 So, I've found a source for these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816116097 ... 2 of them. But, I've also found this: http://www.supermicro.com/products/accessories/mobilerack/CSE-M35TQ.cfm, which should go nicely in to my Antec 1200 v3 case, however, I can't find any mention of that mobile rack in the Lime Tech forums. (Correction, I can find CSE-M35TQ but not CSE-M35TQB, which must refer to the rack being black). Interestingly, it indicates that included in the standard parts list, is a CBL-0097L-02 cable (79536-3220, 50cm IPASS to 4 SATA), which is this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812153005 So, if I get the CSE-M35TQ it includes 1 cable and then there's no need for the 3Ware cable. Can anyone confirm this for me? Thank you Quote Link to comment

switchman
These are the cables I purchased when I build my system. Same cable identified by Rajahal in his prototype builds which is what I followed. http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=102&cp_id=10254&cs_id=1025406&p_id=8186&seq=1&format=2 Quote Link to comment
