muon
This is my first setup of unRAID sever and I was able to make one finally. After I precleared all disks and tried to boot the server. It went o.k. with no problem. I tried to access the sever from my mac using ip address. The setup tutorial (http://lime-technology.com/basic-setup-tutorial-for-the-avs-104-mass-storage-server-with-unraid/) says that I would get the following picture (after-preclear-1.jpg). But actually I get different picture (after-preclear-2.jpg). My question is how to get to the system management utility page as shown on after-preclear-1.jpg. I am somewhat puzzled and any help would be greatly appreciated. Quote Link to comment
itimpi
I think you have used the wrong IP address? It looks as if you have accessed the IPMI port on the SuperMicro board. This is a special port that allows you to get at the BIOS facilities while the board is booting. There will be a different IP address (using a different physical LAN connection) that is the normal Ethernet connection. Quote Link to comment
muon
Thanks. Yes, I need to use different ip for LAN1. Quote Link to comment
muon
Is there a good tutorial or guide for server management utility? It would be nice if there is one with a view point from mac user accessing unRAID server. Quote Link to comment
trurl
Did you try tower.local like it says instead of trying the ip address? Can you ping tower.local? Quote Link to comment
muon
I can ping to tower.local but typing "tower.local" on browser is not working. Quote Link to comment
trurl
Since you were able to do preclear then you must be able to get to the unRAID command line, whether through telnet or IPMI or whatever. From the unRAID command line, what do you get with ifconfig ? Quote Link to comment
muon
This is what I got after typing "ifconfig": Quote Link to comment
thestewman
You have your ethernet connected to the direct access SuperMicro port on the mother board and that will not allow you to connect to Unraid You should have additional ethernet ports ports available on the rear of the server. Move your cable to one of those and then try accessing the server use 192.168.0.7 as the ip address Quote Link to comment
muon
There are two ethernet ports: LAN1 and LAN2. Initially it was connected to LAN1 and you are suggesting me to connect to LAN2. After I use LAN2 instead of LAN1, I can no longer access the server through ip. I can not ping tower.local either. I am attaching the screen shot for ifconfig of LAN2. Quote Link to comment
thestewman
Question : You did the Pre-clears before ever booting Unraid and entering settings etc ? When using ethernet #1 did you try http://tower:8080/myMain/ or http://tower:8080/unraid_main or 192.268.0.7 Quote Link to comment
muon
I just tried all three and only "192.168.0.7" works for me. It is somewhat strange since "ping tower.local" works. Quote Link to comment
trurl
Yes, 192.168.0.7 is the ip address of unRAID according to your screenshot ifconfig. When you ping tower.local, does it come back with that ip address? Quote Link to comment
thestewman
Try also putting HTTP:// in front of tower/local http://tower.local Quote Link to comment
muon
http://HTTP://tower.local is not working. The following is the screen shot for ping Quote Link to comment
thestewman
Sorry my typing error There should be only one http:// in front of tower.local Anyway you have the correct ip so start entering your settings and enjoy Unraid Quote Link to comment
muon
http://tower.local is not working either. Quote Link to comment
trurl
I don't have a mac so I don't know the idiosyncrasies of getting a host name associated with an ip address in that environment. One thing that works for me with a windows network is to make unRAID the local master under SMB. Don't know if you are using SMB or not. If you want to try that you can find it under Settings - SMB. You may have to shutdown the other computers on the network so unRAID can take over as the local master. Another possibility if your router supports it is to reserve an ip address for the unRAID mac address. It might be that if you associate a host name that way it would help. Quote Link to comment
muon
Thanks for trying. I think there is a lot to learn. SMB is for Windows. I will be using AFP for mac. At least I can connect to the server using ip and that is enough for me at this moment. Thanks again. Quote Link to comment
thestewman
Muon instead of Tower.main which does not work on my system either try tower/main instead Stew Quote Link to comment
muon
tower/main is not working. Quote Link to comment
thestewman
I guess it is important how you format the entry Only http://tower/Main or tower/Main with a capital M works on my server Quote Link to comment
muon
http://tower/Main generates "This webpage is not available" message. But I restart my mac and tried "tower.local" and it is working now. Quote Link to comment
muon
Well, I thought it was working with "tower.local". Actually it is not. I tried to type it one more time and it is not working. It is very confusing... Quote Link to comment
muon
When I type "tower.local" on browser, it will be redirected to http://search.daum.net/nate?w=tot&q=tower.local&thr=&sc=ba&afc=A260000001. Something that I've never seen before. I tried three different browsers (Safari, Chrome, Firefox) and the results are the same. I am very confused... Quote Link to comment
