What is a good 2.5" drive to use as a cache drive?

Featured Replies

I am looking for a reliable 2.5" hard drive that I can use for a cache drive.  I have read up an backblaze and see that HGST 3.5" drives are the most reliable but I am not sure if the same holds true for their 2.5" drives.  What 1TB or greater drive would you guys recommend?  I am not interested in paying extra for a enterprise level drive.

The reason I need a 2.5" instead of a 3.5" is that I only have a 2.5" drive bay left in my case.  My plan is to use this drive as my data store for my ESXi host and have about half of it as a dedicated virtual cache drive for unraid.  This way I can free up a 3.5" drive bay and sata port on my LSI card so I can add another 6TB drive to my array.  I have only 8 sata ports on my LSI card and 8 3.5" drive bays.

I have a Seagate 1TB hybrid SSHD for sale on craigslist (pulled from my new laptop). Shoot me a pm for a link if you're interested.

I used a 320Gb WD Black 2.5" - it was pulled from a USFF HP machine.  Worked fine.

I'm pretty partial to the 750 Seagate Hybrid drives.

I usually get them off eBay.

7200 RPM with 8GB SSD Cache.

I been looking at this drive as well. Reviews about the drive's reliability are all over the place though.
