January 7, 201610 yr I want to use IPMI and I thought my motherboard had it Supermicro MBD-X7SBE. Any idea what I need to do or buy? I also thought I could access it through a web browser. January 7, 201610 yr Author thats what I thought but I guess I don't know how to use it or configure/connect to it.
January 7, 201610 yr IPMI is optional on the X7SBE IPMI 2.0 with virtual media over LAN & optional KVM-over-LAN support 200-pin IPMI slot (Optional: AOC-SIMLC-HTC) (Optional: AOC-SIM1U+)-KVM-over-LAN support NOTE: Must use Dedicated LAN for KVM-over-LAN function
January 7, 201610 yr How many LAN ports do you see on the back? 2 or 3? EDIT #3: some deals to be found on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SuperMicro-AOC-SIM1U-IPMI-Card-/131692985414?hash=item1ea9837c46:g:rwYAAOSwNyFWgX8x EDIT #2: some info here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=6124.0 EDIT: That board has dual LAN (as expected) and is provided via an expansion card:
January 7, 201610 yr Author thanks guys, just bought one on eBay. So after I install it what else do I need to do
January 8, 201610 yr You should see ipmi as a seperate computer on your motherboard.. You need to enable it in your bios and set an ip address, that ip address will then be active on your network..
January 8, 201610 yr I like to use the fat client (IPMIView) to manage: ftp://ftp.supermicro.com/utility/IPMIView/ Just a preference...but web will work fine too. John

That explains why I didn't see it when I was looking before. Thought I had it since I had two nics
January 8, 201610 yr Author I like to use the fat client (IPMIView) to manage: ftp://ftp.supermicro.com/utility/IPMIView/ Just a preference...but web will work fine too. John yeah, but no Mac app
January 8, 201610 yr Supermicro's IPMIview is a java app so it runs just fine on a mac providing you have java set up properly to provide security exceptions for the IP address of your IPMI interface. I use it on a mac.
January 8, 201610 yr SuperMicro lists the AOC-SIMLC-HTC as the model and that is what I purchased for my X7SBE MBs. Without some creative placement you will loose a slot for the lan connection. See here for compatibility matrix: http://www.supermicro.com/products/accessories/addon/SIM.cfm
January 8, 201610 yr Author Supermicro's IPMIview is a java app so it runs just fine on a mac providing you have java set up properly to provide security exceptions for the IP address of your IPMI interface. I use it on a mac. I only see a linux and windows version
January 9, 201610 yr I don't know why they only list it that way, they're probably too focused on PCs, but it is the same app for Mac. They most likely never tested it on Mac but I use it. Confused me at first as well. One tip, You need to assign a different IP address to IPMI and different one for UnRaid, they can both be on the same port. I only used the Java app the first time I set it up to find the initial IP address and to change it because it has a search function for their MBs. After that I've been using a browser with the IPMI IP for control.
January 13, 201610 yr Author so I got this installed and setup and can connect to my IP but its asking for a login. What do I login with? I tried what I use for unraid but that doesn't work?? EDIT....got it.....ADMIN and ADMIN
