February 8, 201610 yr Hi there mates. I have one simple question, how unraid is handling hdd data encryption ? I am almost sold on unraid but i need to know how it works (i was going to do similiar "stuff" under arch but since i saw unraid on linus yt i found that i can give it a try). The best solution would be that hdd are enrcypted until you type password during boot (i got kvm connection to server and instaled fail safe that kill ups connected to server so it would shot down serve in couple sek - yes i got offsite backup in case of hdd meltdown of this actions ) then they got decrypted. BTW Its not like i got illegal stuff on my server but i got shit tone of license, own work etc i dont want anyone to have in case they grab my server (data is worth couple times more than server it self).

There have been some 3rd party plugins for adding this sort of capability, but I have no idea how successful they are. This is correct. Additional note, someone from the Lime Tech team created a topic about Encryption sometime last year, so I would assume adding the capability natively to unRAID is in the works. And if not in the works it's at least on there radar. I think of the issues that makes this hard on unRAID is that usually you encrypt disks, but since unRAID has a "user share" system you can have data in folders on different disks as part of the same /mnt/user/SHARENAME so using standard operation procedure you would have to encrypt all the disks or none of them to protect all the data in that share. That is unless they figure out a way to get share level encryption working... but that again has the issue of then meaning some folders on the disk are encrypted while others are not, which might pose a problem.
January 11, 20179 yr I am also interested in knowing whether this is on the roadmap for official support or even what existing 3rd party options there are for unRAID 6.2.4.
