February 13, 201610 yr Anyone out there using the IcyDock Flexcage 5x3 mb975sp-b? I've got two of these on one of my servers and for the most part have like it. But I've had a problem where the drive does not always get seated somehow, then unRaid thinks the drive is missing. Quite annoying, sometimes have to seat the drive with my finger first before closing the door. And I've had problems with the door popping open when one next to it is closed. Thinking of moving to the new iStarUSA BPN-DE350SS. Any experiences with that system? I just really want something solid...preferably without caddies...

Thinking of moving to the new iStarUSA BPN-DE350SS. Any experiences with that system? I just really want something solid...preferably without caddies... I have two of them and one Norco SS-500. I see two problems with the iStarUSA ones: 1) the SATA connectors are not very sturdy; they aren't flimsy like those on early Norco units, but not as sturdy as those on recent Norco ones. So, be careful while messing with the SATA cables connectors. 2) the fan isn't great and isn't easily replaceable, but with a Dremel and some modding I could get a Noctua fan to fit. All other things like drive insertion are good.
February 13, 201610 yr the fan isn't great and isn't easily replaceable, but with a Dremel and some modding I could get a Noctua fan to fit. Could you post some more details of this please gfjardim? I've just got some of these cages this week and haven't quite worked out yet how to go about getting my existing 80mm Noctua fans to fit...
February 14, 201610 yr I removed those fan stands, made a bigger hole and then I screwed the fan directly in the back plate. Here are some pictures I took yesterday: Hope they help.

Yeah brilliant, did you solder on the fan wires as my Noctua fans have standard fan power connectors whereas the 5 in 3 uses a GPU type fan connector... Thanks for posting those pics, Given me a good idea how to go about doing it now..
February 14, 201610 yr Nope, I hooked the fan on the motherboard directly, so I can use the Dynamix Autofan plugin.

February 15, 201610 yr If you have more than one fan to control and don't want to overload the pin header, this is a nice PWM splitter that works great: SilverStone Technology All Black 1-to-8 PWM Fan Hub (CPF04)

February 15, 201610 yr This all seems like a lot of hassle! I simply removed the fans from my iStar cages and leave the main case fans to suck the air in through the cages.

Yep, but negative pressure will suck dust through your USB/NIC/VGA ports, in fact every little hole in the case will accumulate dust.

Yep, but negative pressure will suck dust through your USB/NIC/VGA ports, in fact every little hole in the case will accumulate dust. That is a fair point, but it's not been a problem. Computers need a 'spring' clean every few months anyway - when I see the ventilation slots on the drive cages becoming blocked I get the vacuum out and clean everything.
February 15, 201610 yr Spring cleaning! Those solid blocks of dust act like big heatsink sponges . (Jk)
