It should work for UnRaid and for backups, not sure what you mean 'game servers' do you mean like installing a Minecraft server or do you mean a virtual machine running windows 10 that you can game on? The graphics card it comes with is not suitable for gaming, and the processor does not support VT-D which means you can't pass hardware through to a VM.

Thanks for your reply, with a game server I mean running a server like minecraft not actual gaming on the server

Thanks

Running a game server like Minecraft should be fine.

How could I do that though?

Either through a docker app (MineOS?) or through a VM running Windows / Linux (wouldn't need to do any hardware passthrough to accomplish this)

Thanks, which one would be easier/cheaper/better?

IMO they are about equal in cost, and goodness. Docker and VM's are pretty comparable too. IMO I'd go with Docker if one exists though, becuase docker doesn't involve allocating resources the same way a VM does.

As you can tell I am a complete noob how would I go about doing that?

I'm not really the best person to answer that question, as I'm not the resident expert on docker...

That said, the basic steps are to enable docker on your settings page. This will create your docker image, which will contain your docker containers. Then you would try to find a docker container on this website, or on the https://hub.docker.com/ website (dockers official website for repositories), if you can't find one you could try requesting someone here make one for you... or try to make on yourself using the linux package for the minecraft server.

There is a very good chance someone has already made a container for the purpose that you want... the key is finding it.

Once you have it you just install it though the webgui for Docker. (I think...)

Thanks, would I have to make shares for Docker or minecraft?

I really don't know if you will.

I don't think you will need to for Docker, I think the system takes care of that.

You might need to create a "appdata" share (usually cache only) to point at for configuration and working files.

This basic introduction guide might help you understand better how to use docker.

Thanks.

Also does anyone know how to do a teamspeak server on unRAID i guess using docker again?

Step one is install the community applications plugin.  Then search for teamspeak in it.  Then head over to its support link with questions

So basically everything I want it to do it can.

Yes ;)

As Squid says, install community applications. Then you can search for teamspeak and just install it. Then you have a teamspeak server. If you want a minecraft server, search for mcmyadmin2 and install it. Then you have a minecraft server, it is so easy that is not even funny  :P::)

And familiarize yourself with the docker faq.  Specifically the folder mappings posts

Thanks guys, now the hardest thing ever to do...persuade my Dad.

Use the approach of you're not going to need the extra $$ for hydro to do any of the docker apps or vms etc

As a male over 40 that always works for me. ????

Well the way he thinks it is that I dont need a server at all.

He needs a backup of his documents and pictures ;)  :P

Exactly what I said and he's like well we can just use backup drives but I swear we have bought enough of them to open up a shop and they have all vanished :D

Not sure how old you are, but I remember telling my parents that I would take the dog for a walk for the rest of my life, or take out the garbage, or (god forbid) clean my room...

Pretty sure they knew it was bs, but it did also seem to work with them.

Not sure what I should say tbh to change his mind. I guess I will have a "chat" with him haha. I think if it was cheaper he would find it not as bad
