Renew IP Address from Command LIne?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My pfSense server crashed last night and my unRAID server lost it's IP address.

How do I renew the IP from the command line?

Thanks.

Try this:

Drop the sudo prefix, you are already logged in as Super User

Found with Google....

No luck here
from ~# > dhclient
dhclient unknown command
from ~# > sudo dhclient -r
dhclient unknown command

I couldn't get it to work so I power cycled the server :-/

same here. is there a way to do this beside power-cyceling?

I have some weird issues with getting no ip address

I wasn't able to figure out how to do it from the command line but you can trigger unraid to refresh the DHCP lease by going to network settings and then changing a setting and then just changing it back and then, finally, hitting apply. The big downside to that is you have to stop(or disable?) docker and VMs in order to have it let you do it.

I hate that the google search leads to this thread at the top of the listing....

I apologise for the necro, but came across this thread when I was trying to do the same. This command worked for me on 6.9.0:

ifconfig br0 down && ifconfig br0 up

I also noted there is /sbin/dhcpcd. So that could also be used but haven't tried it.

Can confirm that crenn's solution worked for me. Thanks! Maybe we could pin this to the top or something?

I wanted to share this command runs fine in my situation. However, unRaid still did not take the new IP address I told pi-hole to give it. unRaid is still using a random one it got yesterday.

Edit: I wish a saw the save button in the pi-hole interface sooner. THIS COMMAND WORKS!!!!

Very usefull when tweeking your network ;-)
