Change VM Name

Featured Replies

Can I change the name of an active and running VM without it re-installing the OS...?  I have two Windows 10 VM's, one was production and one was a test bed only.  Due to some issues these have now swapped so the one that I have called "Windows 10 Test" is now my production VM.  Not a huge deal but I would like to change the names if I can do that without it re-building the OS.

While running no.

While stopped, probably.

You have to stop the VMs. Then edit them through the UI, change the name and hit update. That's it the VM names are changed in unRAID. It has no impact on the actual OS inside the VM at all.

If you wish to actually have the Windows machine in the VM have a different "machine name" then that's completely different, fairly straight forward to do inside the VM. Requires a reboot of the VM but doesn't need an OS re-install.
